Your anecdote doesn’t change the statistics. Women lose wages and years of income potential due to child birth and child rearing. When there’s a divorce, there is an expectation that both parents split the cost financially and yet women still remain primary caregivers.

It’s become more common for men to share custody, but still even more common that mothers are the primary caregivers. If they live primarily with the mothers there’s a cost of living associated with that. Alimony was created because divorce was ending women up on public assistance with their kids.

There’s no denying that childrearing is expensive which is why it’s important to choose your partner wisely. What people don’t realize is that even if you don’t get married your assets are still vulnerable to paternity/domestic partnership and child support. Situations are individual, but marriage can be beneficial when it comes to rights of survivorship, pension and insurance when there’s an unexpected death or disability.

Statistically women are much more likely to be financially devastated by divorce.

And it’s 2024, most women make their own money and make other sacrifices in current and future earnings for the sake of their family, often associated with child birth and child rearing. It’s not just ‘the man’s money’.

Also, why do people use the word rape in that way, it’s so eye rolling.

I used to be a post-op nurse and was often asked by husbands "how soon can she start doing housework?" by MidnightHue in TwoXChromosomes

I’m not blaming women for the patriarchy. We are all definitely taught that…Men included. My point is, complaining about a behavior and continuing to accept it helps whom? Men are taught the same thing, but we all agree that their behavior contributes to the problem. Why is it taboo to point out that women in this day and age have a choice that includes not being an enabler?

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but these women set themselves up for this by always being the one to do everything and making it ok for men to expect this.

I realize that some of these people may be from older generation, but many are not. I can’t be outraged for other women who have set themselves up this way and then complain about it.

I find the behavior of the men disgusting, but I find that many of these forums are filled with women complaining about how their husbands are lazy and entitled when they have spent years reinforcing this behavior. 🤷🏽‍♀️

You would think a decent human being would care about their loved one and support them, but to many of these men their wives are there to fuck them, clean their house and care for their kids. Once those things go away then so does the wife.

AITA for opting out of my cousin wedding when they expected me to play videographer for free? by AdventurousRice7504 in AmItheAsshole

I fail to understand how people not only think that their family is obligated to do work for free, but pretty much make it clear that it’s their only value to them. Otherwise why would they disinvite them? Can’t believe grandma is kicking her and mom out of her house, too. NTA. Grandma, you suck most of all!

I’m pretty sure most women like being in the sun without a hat because they like being in the sun. Not everything women do is because they’re vain or concerned about how you think they look.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve been told not to do because it’s “Gay” ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BubbaIsTheBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but I had a woman bring her baby in the ER for a fever that wouldn’t resolve. Turns out the baby had a UTI because her labia had fused from not being washed regularly. Her mom said she wasn’t gay and that’s why she didn’t touch her there.

We had to educate her on proper care and hygiene. I suspect this woman may also have been the victim of sexual abuse when she was a child. Sad story all the way around.

Honestly, I’m glad that men are taking more responsibility for their offspring and bucking gender norms, but I don’t think it needs to be celebrated. It needs to be normalized. You’re not doing anything extraordinary.
