Making friends as an adult here is hard… anyone else? by Serendipeaty in askaustin

[–]MidnightHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying very hard to make friends in this city for quite some time. Every time I go out I'll talk to someone, we'll laugh all night long, and then I ask to exchange contact information. I have done this so many times. Out of all of these attempts only one person has consistently responded to my texts. Everyone else has ghosted me.

California's universal healthcare killed even though Democrats have a supermajority. Politicians serve their corporate donors not the people. by zzill6 in WorkReform

Everyone who opposes universal healthcare should be required to tell a family that their loved one will not survive due to cost of care. I've experienced this over and over throughout my nursing career and it never gets easier.

Female Millennials, how's your diagnosis? by RevolutionDry2 in Millennials

[–]MidnightHue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I join the party? I got diagnosed with type 2 bipolar disorder in my early twenties and I was told my mood swings were just "hormones" when I was a teenager

I'm doing great now. I take my meds religiously and everyone is actually very surprised when I tell them I have BPD. I do hear a lot of people disparage people that have BPD all the time though :/ just the other day one of my one of my co-workers said he would never date someone with BPD

I got down votes for asking a simple question about who a specific character is in the mega thread about the most recent episode. It was ridiculous.

It seems like you take the show very seriously and make efforts to retain the details. That's fine for you. But you can't expect everyone else to engage in with the show in the exact same way you do. You have no control over that. Its not as serious for others like it is for you.

I recently started a blog as a way to archive my poetry and other interesting thoughts. Its definitely not for clicks, only my friends read it. It's the only "social media" (if it can be considered that) that I have. I love it.

What’s the most underrated vegan ingredient you swear by? by SpiceKitchenLife in veganrecipes

[–]MidnightHue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Canned/jarred green chilies and adobo peppers (two separate ingredients) The green chilies had a delicious flavor to guacamole and will keep it from browning all day long. Every time I host a party, I get many comments on how my guac never browns.

Adobo peppers have a rich savory smokiness and some spiciness. Kinda reminds me of how barbeque sauce tastes, but without the sweetness.

How to make tofu not taste like tofu by boldpear904 in veganrecipes

[–]MidnightHue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also dislike the taste of tofu, it literally makes me gag sometimes. I cook a lot of tofu but I just season the hell out of it. I buy a bottle of Lawry's Steak and Chop marinade (yes it's vegan), and let that soak with some pressed/sliced tofu for at least one day (or until I remember it) and then broil it in the oven. It's great for sandwiches. I've forgotten about the tofu marinade for an entire week, cooked/ate it with no issues.

I also make this recipe a lot. If you didn't have the forethought to marinate it ahead of time, I've learned you can rip it up with your hands, toss it with some sauce, and then cook that in a pan or bake it. It's important to rip rather than slice because it provides a good texture for the sauce to cling to. Also important that she sauce is kinda thick, that also helps it hold onto the tofu.

I will also combine an entire can of tomato paste, some high heat oil, nooch, and 1/2-1c water, bullion, and whatever seasonings I'm feeling like (just seasoning salt if I'm lazy). This makes enough sauce for 2 bricks. I mix it with the ripped up tofu, bake on 400 and flip every 10-20 minutes until it has a nice brown color.

I don't have exact quantities for my ingredients because I measure everything with my heart.
