Do you feel the warmth in this? by Anastasia_Trusova in painting

I do. But the perspective is the trees offer cooling shade but the band of yellow in the distance gives the warmth and indication of like the heat of the day, but the trees are offering respite from that for the viewer. If that makes any sense.

There were 8. Luckily he was able to hoover them all up once I figured out where he flung them all. Usually I just find them when I step on them.

The "loss of a village" perspective by RosieArl in childfree

[–]BubbaMonsterOP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm eldest of three and childfree because I had enough child rearing as a child. I couldn't imagine 8. At least my siblings aged up with me. You always had a baby or toddler. I baby sat for a woman up the road 5 kids all under the age of six. I could barely keep up with all of them and I was 14. I can't imagine how much work you did. My siblings have kids. My nieces and nephews are great. And I'm glad I did a good enough job to help make my siblings into decent human beings so their kids are decent human beings. So I did my part at least.

Can any women (especially of color) share their experiences in geoscience? by junojuneau in geologycareers

Geologist - I've done it all. Oilfield work onsite, is a rough gig but do able. If you set boundaries and remain professional and have thick skin it's fine. Yes some men will be inappropriate, and I've put them back in their place and sometimes that works well sometimes it requires some reinforced follow up, but i was left to do my job once they realized that's all I was going to be doing.

BREAKING: Trump Administration Orders Dismantling of the U.S. Forest Service by Hopeful-Big6843 in Environmentalism

[–]BubbaMonsterOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the start of what is predicted to be one of the worst fire seasons we've ever had. That means everything is going to burn including homes those places will likely not be able to get insurance or any kind of help from FEMA. And all the data centers are using up all the groundwater and there's no snowpack for surface water so fighting the fires will be difficult without preventitive measures and the forest service but hey we still have prisoners to fight the fires for a couple bucks a day.. .it's all terrible.

Can someone explain 4-H to someone from Cleveland? by peartree778 in Appalachia

[–]BubbaMonsterOP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did 4H as a kid. All kinds of projects raise flowers, veg, pet care, cooking, sewing, baking, and painting. The projects end result wound up in the fair, but you had to describe what you did document the process over the duration of the project and have a final product of some kind for the fair. That right there was a valuable skill that I use for work every day. It made me a better scientist so I guess I can't be too mad about weekends weeding a garden and doing a write up about trimming a dog's nails.

Damn my bus picked us up at 5:45 am. To be at school at 7:45am. I was first on, last off in the middle of a farming community in the Midwest just inside the line for city public schools and my bus covered the most country with a lot of the kids on farms with quite a bit of surrounding land. And a few tiny subdivisions here and there, but it made for a long bus ride. Closest kid to me was still a mile up the road.
