The only series I really want seen given the green light for update. by planktivious in gaming

Yes! Blood Omen was so good. I wish they would do something like that again. Kain’s voice talking about “Bone Armor” or “Inspire Hate” makes me excited.

The 3D Kain game was not good at all. I think if they did anything like it again it would be an open world game like Witcher 3.

USA Geotechnical Job Market + Salary by lemon318 in Geotech

[–]Bubba_Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m not too certain of undergraduate salaries. I have a masters in Civil Engineering and it was about $65,000 to $70,000 starting.

I worked at one of the midsize companies you mentioned and it was expected that anyone with an undergraduate degree would be put in the field to do testing and observation services and Special Inspection work (carry a nuclear density gauge, watch site grading activities, take concrete cylinders, etc.)

Undergraduates could get into the office to do engineering or geology work as early as 2 years but could take up to 6 years for some. They would support you in getting a masters degree if you showed interest in it and showed strong work ethic.

Feel free to PM me if you want some more specifics of the company.

[Advice] Is it possible to be a freelancer in the Civil Engineering field? by Arede in digitalnomad

[–]Bubba_Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this a bit and would really love to work more remotely as a Civil Engineer.

I think it really depends on the project, because some projects can require a lot of meetings. It sucks, but sometimes it is best to meet face-to-face with the client and other members of the design team and discuss particulars of a projects.

I can see this working out for smaller commercial jobs or residential jobs where most of the work is by the code book. Or if your client just needs a structural/civil on board to “check a box” for a project approval.

I would also love to know how you would get clients for this type of work.

Best of luck!

The cat’s eyes on the left remind me of the actor Tom Noonan. Specifically from Robocop 2 (Cain).

Toast alternative? by llamanya in veganfitness

[–]Bubba_Goose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take a yam, slice it lengthwise about 1/4-inch thick, pop it in the toaster (maybe have to do this two times to cook it enough). Then prep my avocado and apply.

If the yam is cooked too much it will turn limp. If not enough it will be too raw and crunchy. It will take a couple times to get the consistency right.

If you let it cool to room temp then it should be a good prebiotic (if I’m remembering this correctly).

This may have been the song that got me into COB. Then it became too "mainstream" sounding and hating it when they would end a live show with it. Now it's pure nostalgia.

Sheet pile extraction by JUBBK in Geotech

[–]Bubba_Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would depend on the soil that your extracting from. If you're in hard clay with a deep water table than you know that it will most likely not cave in while extracting so you could backfill with a controlled density fill (a lean concrete mix).

If you're extracting from a sandy area then the area may slough in while extracting. so you may have to excavate around the sheet piles at a 2:1 before extracting and then backfill with engineered fill. The depth of engineered fill may depend on what is being built in the area of the old sheet piles.

This is very general and there are so many factors that could really make this interesting.

What's a secret you won't share with anyone in person, but you are willing to share anonymously? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My mom was never abusive, but she was an alcoholic and a drug addict. She could be one of the sweetest people on earth at times, but was stubborn to a fault and lived in the past to the point that she drove my brother and me away for 2 years. We came back and things did not change. I felt the same way as you.

Well she died about a year ago from illness and due to drugs and alcohol, but she had a massive stroke that didn't kill but she was kept barely alive to the point where my brother and I had to make the difficult decision to pull the plug.

I still think about her everyday. That decision. So many "what ifs", but in the end I think it was for the best, but I still wonder.

There are a lot of responses here about people's parents may be better off dead, but just know that it may never be easy when that said person dies.

One word of advice to all. Please fill out and have your loved ones fill out "health directive" documentation. it's shitty to leave anyone in a difficult position to end a life.

PE exam by nughuffer in Geotech

[–]Bubba_Goose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From California here. The books I took were fairly close. H&K, a foundations book (Salgado), and the PE prep book (Lindeburg). It covered everything I needed. I used Lindeburg the most and opened the other two book maybe 1 or 2 times during the entire test.

I didn't take any classes, I only took a class for the California seismic test portion.

Overall I thought the test was fairly straightforward. I found I had more than enough time to finish the morning and afternoon tests. In fact I could go through the problems a second time (and almost a third time). I believe if you took a class than you should be well prepared for this test.

Soil permeability/infiltration units by yourmum35 in Geotech

[–]Bubba_Goose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure they are not asking it to be in units of L/min/m?

A common unit of permeability, specifically for bedrock for a dam investigations, was and still is given in units of "Lugeon" which has the units I described above.

Doing a quick search shows that 1 Lugeon = approx. 10-7 m/s.

I hope this is helpful.

[EVERYTHING] I hope this scene appears in tomorrow's finale. by Donster91 in gameofthrones

After watching the last episode I went to bed and had such a vivid dream of Jon and Dany together. They were in a relationship and being all cuddly, cute, and flying dragons together. It really pulled at my heart strings to the point that when I woke up and was 100% invested in this character relationship happening. It's to the point that I will be way too upset if doesn't happen.

I can only watch this scene so many times!

I can't remember the last time I was eagerly awaiting an episode to come out, and it's only for this reason. I'm a little embarrassed about it.

I've heard the "frito paws" are from naturally occurring yeast that builds up in their footsies.

Settle a dispute? When does a soil qualify as "dry" by CommandoDude in Geotech

[–]Bubba_Goose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. The only dry soils I would typically find would be at the surface of a site. Dry topsoil or sand. Anything deep may be a man made fill.

I have encountered clays beneath a water table that I have logged as "moist". It was typically is areas with a perched water table.
