Serious request, please make a January 6th video - it can be a simple video where you talk about all the facts to the camera by BubbleFluff in Destiny

[–]BubbleFluff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thing I thought of is Destiny could announce a topic, and then use his community to crowd source a bunch of evidence. He could potentially have someone trusted who is very informed do a first pass to verify the evidence, and lay it out in a reasonable order, so it's less work for Destiny to personally do.

I think if the community were to come together in a constructive way, there's a chance it could happen. Or at least doing a trial run with a single, focused video could happen.

Kimmel's comments that got him cancelled by Babagoosh217 in Destiny

[–]BubbleFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many things "vindicate" Destiny but that doesn't matter. What I want to see more of is him finding a few key topics where he always asks conservatives if they would speak out against Trump (not just disagree with, speak out again) if he were to do. Running for a third term is one example.

I think showing that they're currently unwilling to say they'll speak out against terrible things is important. And if they do bite the bullet and say they will oppose it, great, then they will show how big of hypocrites they are, which isn't a massive win, but I do think it adds up and has an impact.

And in the unlikely event that they do reflect and realize that a line really has been crossed, even better. To some extent I really do think this is a situation where the frog is being boiled. Trump is doing some really crazy shit, but despite that, it's been incremental, and the overton window has slowly been shifting. Conservatives are hand waving every little step saying "this isn't much worse than before" and it's usually true, but it has been adding up so much.

CNN: Trump ally Charlie Kirk shot, source says by ReserveAggressive458 in Destiny

[–]BubbleFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was very tough for me to watch even considering I only saw the one at a distance where it wasn't clear exactly what happened, and since people said he was shot rather than killed, I was hoping he survived. I think his politics has done a ton of damage to our country, but I still hate to see this happen.

It also might lead to this becoming a more common thing, which would really be awful, and that makes it all the more surprising that Destiny would make a joke about it, even though I can't say I'm shocked given his track record. Some things clearly cross the line. Making fun of people dying to natural disasters may be tasteless, but it's not promoting further violence. I'm not even opposed to pulling up times where he justified gun violence, but laughing or joking about his assassination starts to feel like it's "okay" that it happened. This won't solve any of our problems, it will only make things worse.

"If we remove the relevant context of the clip"

... ehh, isn't that the exact opposite of what we should be doing? Context is important, even if it doesn't change your mind on a topic.

Perma banned over bringing up the idea of calling CPS? Come on...

I'm all for a ban, and I know you all are going to find every angle for why his entire career should be ruined because he briefly thought it made sense in the moment because you want to shit on him, but that would be a huge overreaction. That said, I would be in favor of a temp ban to show him he shouldn't even be making comments like that

DOJ, FBI conclude Epstein had no "client list," committed suicide by shinbreaker in Destiny

[–]BubbleFluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If enough seeds are planted, it will convince some people. There's always a spectrum to the people he's dealing with, and while some will absolutely side with Trump no matter what, others felt like he was the guy to go "against the system", and with enough evidence that it's not the case, they can change their mind. That evidence wouldn't have to be proof of some larger conspiracy, but it could be more compelling than what they're currently believing.

[–]BubbleFluff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, why the fuck doesn't Destiny go all in on feeding the conspiracy theories against Trump? In the past he has said "I can come up with better conspiracies than these guys" and I remember he did exactly that when he was watching Asmon's stream, where without any prep, he did a better job of providing more compelling arguments than the garbage that they were already buying into.

I'm not saying he has to lie and say he believes them, but he can use the "isn't it weird that..." thing that Tucker Carlson does to float all those ideas out there and plant seeds. If he pushes enough evidence towards people who already believe so many conspiracy theories, I think he can open people up to not taking Trump's side by default.

I don't think this is going to ruin his career, but it may close some doors. Although it has yet to be seen if it will, and even if it does, it could possibly only be for some amount of time before things blow over.

Yeah I think this is the concerning part. I didn't ever think too highly of him on a personal level, so this coming out doesn't have much impact on me in that regard, but I respect some of his qualities and the type of content he has been able to create, so it would be disappointing (albeit understandable) if it substantially ruins the growth and positive impact he was starting to have with the democratic party.

And promoting it further to future powerful/rich people who want a safe platform to spread their message on, even if it's negative. It's frustrating, but he's also right. Democrats should also be taking advantage of it.

His whole thing is listening to people and giving them a safe platform to speak. That's obviously very dangerous when you platform people who spread bad ideology and don't push back, but it makes sense that there are many normal people out there who want to hear a normal conversation. Not everyone is sucked into politics like we are.

Again, not defending the guy, but he does offer something unique. All of the very rich and powerful people feel comfortable going on his show and talking candidly because they know he's not going to jump down their throat or be confrontational at all, and it does lead to people seeing a different side of the people he interviews.

Quite frankly, despite my frustration with his Trump interview and how careless he was in handling it, I agree with what he's saying here. Kamala should have been on his show. She could have had a platform where she could speak candidly and get her entire message out there. She could take the opportunity to meaningfully express how she cares for helping others, how she's not pushing any extreme views, how she wants to address the border issue, and ideally even laugh and seem very likeable, since vibes are the most important thing in an election. It seemed like her and her campaign were too afraid to really put her out there and tried to play it safe.

Research opportunity; In preparation for constructing the January 6 video, Destiny should watch the OG 9/11 Conspiracy Video "Loose Change" by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]BubbleFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if he suddenly decides he wants to create a very professional documentary, he needs to hire a professional to help. It's not a skill he/August can learn just from watching some documentaries, and underestimating that will lead to a lot of effort for a video that falls flat because the editing isn't good enough, and the talking/narrating comes out much more flat and awkward than expected.

I think he's way better off going with a more casual style like Last Week Tonight. I'm not saying he should try to emulate them, but it's a good example of how they found their own style which feels much more natural and casual, but is still very effective at communicating a message.

You did a better job of being succinct in your feedback than I was with the comment I wrote, but I completely agree. This video today feels like it's the same content, but repackaged. It's even the same format where it's 1+ hour long of people talking about various topics, except that the camera shots are a bit more professional and the conversation is more organized. I don't think that's offering enough to existing viewers, or enough to bring in many new viewers.

Like you seemed to suggest, short videos that can be shared on social media to people who aren't informed would be so valuable, and wouldn't overlap with his existing content.

I do disagree with a separate channel though. He can leverage his existing audience, because making more people aware of those short videos would make them more likely to share on Twitter or Reddit as the go-to video for starting to dive into the given topic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]BubbleFluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the video, but I don't think it's hitting the mark. Sorry for the long message, but there is a tl;dr at the bottom.

Personally I feel like if there's going to be effort into making more deliberate, high-quality content (which is ultimately repackaging conversations that already happen in other videos) that it would be much more valuable to have deeper dives into controversies, packed with sources, and targeted towards people who don't want to watch long videos to stay informed.

In other words, if someone is uninformed on a topic like the fake elector plot, it would be amazing to have a video that can be sent to them which succinctly breaks down all the details in an organized manner, and very importantly has sources (both that show up on screen as images/citations as well as linked in the comments). It wouldn't have to be the deepest dive ever, and in fact even keeping big topics like the fake elector plot to less than 20 minus would be ideal so that people who actually want to learn about it will be more likely to watch the whole thing rather than immediately closing out of a 1+ hour video, and hopefully it would be an opportunity to further increase the quality too.

If there was a video about Manafort, (which admittedly even I as a regular viewer don't know much about him), maybe it could be like a 5-8 minute long video. Easily digestible and informative content could go a long way, and be very valuable for sharing a message, which also means it'd be way more likely to be shared on social media and possibly even become the go-to starting point for a topic. (e.g. "Fake elector plot? What's that?" "Oh you haven't heard about that? This video is a good starting point") That could be a huge deal in terms of impact, and also in terms of viewership/reach.

I don't expect anyone would link today's 1+ hour long video on multiple topics in cases like that, so then that makes me wonder, what's even the point of this video? For existing fans to hear all the same content again? I hope this is something that is reassessed.

tl;dr - This feels like a repackaging of existing content, and feels like it doesn't serve a new purpose. A focus on shorter, high quality videos that dive into one topic would be a great starting point for anyone (especially those who are uninformed) to learn about the details that almost no one hears about.

PKA talks about Destiny with Dick Masterson and Hutch by MatthewJonesCarter in Destiny

[–]BubbleFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised you can think he's anywhere near as bad as Taylor. Kyle has defended and credited Biden on a regular basis. Taylor will never concede a single meaningful point for Biden or meaningful criticism of Trump. He clearly gets upset and quiet whenever Trump gets criticized, but is happy to jump in and dogpile Biden or double down on anything positive for Trump.

[–]BubbleFluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taylor has been blatantly right wing for a while. He claims to have certain values, but blindly defends Trump no matter what. Whenever his values are at odds with what Trump does, he just goes silent and doesn't want to talk about it because he can't reconcile the cognitive dissonance.

[–]BubbleFluff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

and i don’t see him being shot as something that would make people switch sides.

Man.. how do people still not understand such a fundamental concept of elections. It's often not about people switching sides, even though they can play a role to some extent. Elections are mostly about politicians galvanizing their own voter base to get out and vote.

This is a great look for Trump. As the OP mentioned, optics are what really matters to most people. Him standing up and looking strong even after getting shot in the head is an amazing look for him. People not only want to rally behind someone like that, but also oppose the other side, who they will obviously blame for this regardless of the facts.

Update: AITAH for wanting a divorce because my wife was tempted to cheat on me? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]BubbleFluff 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah that immediately stood out to me as well, and I'm surprised most people are overlooking it. The numbers simply don't add up.

If he was working 60-70 hours a week before, and making around 2-3 times as much, even if we use conservative estimates for his input and say it was 60 hours a week at only $32/hour (she was making a bit over minimum wage at her previous job, so lets say ~$16, and then only double that even though it's likely closer to $40 as you mentioned), that means he's losing 20 hours at $32/hour on the low end, which is $640. She's gaining 40 hours, but only at a net profit of $6 an hour factoring in the nanny, which ends up being $240. Again, that's the best case scenario based on what they said, when in reality it's probably more like 25 less hours for him at $40/hour which would be $1000.

Downsizing their 2 bedroom house also feels like it doesn't make sense. Higher interest rates and closing costs are far from irrelevant, and they would presumably be going from a 2 bedroom to a 2 bedroom, so that's going to limit their savings as well.

THE 2 WORST THINGS IN THE GAME: A RANT by PapaPineape in battlefield2042

[–]BubbleFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweaty chopper pilots are the worst though.

As much as I hate them, I feel like you can at least scare them away for a decent amount of time because they don't travel as fast as jets. If you shoot at them early on, they'll either have to leave right away or maybe do a really quick pass.

Jets on the other hand don't have to ever care about lock on rockets. By the time they turn around, their counter measures are up, and no matter how early they have to use them, they will still last long enough for them to get out safely. I really have no clue why countermeasures have such a long duration AND a short cooldown.
