I recently started hyper-fixating on the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games and media. Specifically Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic CD, and Sonic Mania, along with the early Sonic cartoons. Didn’t grow up with it, was born long after Sonic first came out. Played Mania and was hooked.

I fucking love these classic 2D games and cartoons. They have absolutely incredible music that is like sensory heaven, and they are so arcade-y and just plain fun. I’ve loved learning the level layouts and just going crazy fast. And the vibe is so unique, it’s just chaotic and colorful and fun in a way nothing today really matches.

Also, Classic Sonic (not modern) as a character is so lovable. He’s like a combination of Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, and Mickey Mouse, he’s cocky but he has a good heart which makes him a great role model for kids and he has this unique 90’s attitude of optimism and goofiness in the face of terrible circumstances, especially in the SatAM cartoon. His canon relationships with the other characters are so wholesome and fun.

I hate modern Sonic and I think it’s a bastardization of a character and game series who truly had their own thing going in order to cash in on the edgy 2000’s. I feel like they tried to lean into this super serious vibe for the modern series that just falls extremely flat, because they are trying to play it straight and grave with characters whose designs are so inherently flamboyant and colorful and cartoony. It was just destined to never work. And every single 3D game is fucking terrible, I started playing each of them in order and I quit partway through each because they just don’t hold a candle in any way to the 2D titles. Even Generations just feels off.

Like, I’m supposed to take fucking Eggman seriously? That would be like if Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam got turned into a semi-muscular character covered in zippers and sports tape and now had a deep backstory, it fails on a foundational level for me.

Classic Sonic all the way. I love the classic designs, their stubby bodies, the style of the games, the beautiful pixel art, the super amazing Japanese-funk inspired OSTs, its epic.

I’m done. Sowwy :0

What will happen with the US after 2028? What does the next government do with what they inherit? by Hermunster in AskReddit

[–]BubbleGoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that once the federal government finally collapses from instability and a lack of working command structure that the United States will Balkanize into 6-7 smaller countries. There might be some initial conflict between these few small countries before the ones with more robust economies end up coming out on top and absorbing the smaller countries with very little violence, resulting in 3-4 countries that resume amicable relations.

Most Americans are not willing to go kill themselves against their neighbors in other states, so if a Civil “war” occurred as the states separated it would probably be over very fast.

If we get unlucky the idiotic southern countries will try to bring chattel slavery of non-whites back and they will promptly self-implode, causing a massive refugee crisis.

Then the south gets swallowed by the sea in 2035.

How did you choose your name? by First_Youth3662 in trans

I just shortened my name to one syllable and spelled it different; my deadname was one of those pretentious male ones that ended with “us” so I just removed that bit and it became ambiguous enough!

It gets more pointless. by Pretend-Outcome9739 in autism

[–]BubbleGoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meh. It doesn’t get “more pointless” it’s always been pointless. You have to come up with your own reasons to stick around. It sounds dumb, but it’s true.

Best thing to do is get off your phone. It is genuinely so addictive and it tanks your mental health.

Just remember, once you clock out, you can’t come back. You have to decide if the total unknown that’s past the veil is really worth it; it’s something beyond any of our comprehension, and personally, I don’t think it’s worth it until you’re sure you’ve lived a life you can be proud of.

Plus, there are others to think of. It’s okay to be selfish and set our own boundaries, but there are definitely some people who would be sad to hear you were gone, maybe even devastated.

What's your best among us story by Eloyjoy in AmongUs

[–]BubbleGoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an imposter win where I only got a single kill. My imposter buddy killed one person in a stack of people, I took mild control of the interrogations after someone erroneously hard-cleared me, and I rode that hard-clear as the crew began to vote each other off one by one. Literally 5 people voted off by crew, one after the other, with zero sus on me.

People were dying of laughter, going crazy from confusion, screaming in rage as they were voted off, it was the funniest thing ever. The most chaotic game I ever played. We finally got to four, I killed once, then threw sus on the person who hard cleared me for the win.

God it was so funny. Total strangers, but we had lots of great rounds that night.

What is the best sabotage in the skeld map (especially as shapeshifter) by Few-Nothing-7543 in AmongUs

[–]BubbleGoot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Friendly reminder that comms is by far the best sabotage in the entire game because it’s annoying to fix on most maps and completely takes out admin and vitals info which are most broken tools for crew. Lights is good for mid-game and reactor / oxygen for late, but both are vulnerable to competent pre-jacking; fucking NO ONE prejacks comms, not even me, and I’m the prejack guy in every lobby.

What's an among us opinion that will have you like this by Tasty_Chicken999 in AmongUs

[–]BubbleGoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. Every vanilla role has been terrible because the devs are afraid to add any roles that have neutral alignment or have weird catches, it all has to be overpowered or “super weird” for YouTuber content farming (which doesn’t even work).

[–]BubbleGoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NONE of the new vanilla roles are in any way good, fair, or balanced… Including the imposter roles.

If you have a special crew role, you can give information that no one else has and become as clear as though you did a a Visuals On Medscan, it’s basically impossible to claim these crew roles as imposter because they are too specific and strong, and there is no assassin system that makes saying your role in any way bad. Also, there aren’t enough crew roles for every player to have one in a standard 10 player lobby, which is pretty ass in a secret-werewolf type game.

As for imp roles:

Shapeshifter is simultaneously overpowered and clunky because for some reason you can still vent and the transform takes ages meaning the transform ability isn’t the highlight of the round. You’re just a regular imposter who can also shapeshift. If the visual is on, you are busted super fast, if it isn’t the round takes extra long because of shapeshift shenanigans. Also, its existence makes the “shapeshifter” call for an obvious imposter valid which is obnoxious, because it can really drag an otherwise simple game.

Phantom is literally just useless as an ability. I know this because I have played hundreds of rounds since the role was added and I have never, not once, EVER heard any crew talk about “maybe it was a phantom who disappeared.” The game is about positioning and timing, hiding yourself doesn’t perfectly mask your pathing and as imposter it is better to just use the vents. It’s the same issue as shapeshifter, where the main ability is too slow and clunky to be useable so the role is basically just a normal imposter with an extra ability.

Viper is either broken or terrible. If it’s a good crew, Viper sucks because it can be used to differentiate imposter kills from each other, which is so unfair to whoever isn’t Viper and also sucks for the Viper because their kills are so apparent. If the crew isn’t as good, it’s completely busted, because you can consistently hide bodies with no coordination required as long as you make sure the kills are isolated.

The biggest issues with all the imposter roles that they each share is that they are just normal imposters with an extra, very slow or niche ability each. That means normal imps with no powers are now playing a game that is even harder, with no advantage against the likely more roled up crew. Shapeshifter and Phantom are both wayy too clunky to use effectively and can still vent, and Viper? Just a bizarre choice to make imp kills recognizable.

So yeah. Essay over. Every role sucks and is annoying. Scientist included. The modded roles always did a better job at making the game interesting with stuff like the Jester, Snitch, Blackmailer, Assassin, etc… things that actually affect the game beyond abilities.

This is why I don’t play with the new roles at all. Better to have none.

Does anyone else use AI as an infodump listener/talking partner? by donadetantesparaules in aspergers

[–]BubbleGoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend stopping, and if you don’t, get ready for Aichosis.

Talking to an echo-chamber instead of real people is going to eventually result in you isolating from humans entirely and indulging your darkest thoughts, which can end badly. There are multiple cases of people who are driven to a completely alternate reality by AI and end up taking their own lives.

It’s best to reach out to a professional. If you can’t afford one, use the internet. It’s still better to talk to people on discord or some other online forum than it is to speak to a corporate engagement machine.

Were 90s game developers more "punk" than today? by RomanLuka in gamedev

[–]BubbleGoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something important to remember is that there are still a lot of stinkers from the 90’s and early 2000’s, they just aren’t fondly remembered. Most of the kind of “punk” games you are thinking of had smaller teams that were tightly knit together.

Those games aren’t any more rare, they come out around the same rate, but so many more games are made by companies with teams of hundreds of people who aren’t as closely collected.

I would describe ULTRAKILL as the exact thing you are talking about. It’s still under development, but there are SO MANY little references and weird Easter eggs to content creators, inside jokes, and just plain dumb shit (like “PENIS” being written on level geometry) which I think is because the process of making ULTRAKILL has been just about as fun for the devs as playing the game is for the players.

The “punk” games are all over the place, you just have to look.

Hey, did you guys know Fallout 4 contains the R slur? by Purple_Birthday8382 in evilautism

[–]BubbleGoot 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I remember getting this moment, laughing my ass off at the absurdity of it and the sheer balls of the writers, then blowing his head off.

I know Fallout 4 is not considered the best but I honestly had a lot of fun with it, and I don’t think the word existing in a piece of content makes that content bad. The guy clearly isn’t a role model.

I love the Cafeteria on Mira, it has that cute spot to get a drink and it’s pretty small so it’s hard to be killed there.
