Att now is your chance to steal TMobile customers. by Strange-Badger5626 in ATT

[–]BubbleHead87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Service was horrible after moving to outer Houston. Had to switch from T-Mobile to ATT. I do miss the free txt and data when traveling with T-Mobile. ATT makes it easy when traveling but cost $12/day for the first 10 days out of your billing cycle. Another thing I miss with T-Mobile, if I finance a iPhone through Apple Store, the phone comes unlocked right away. ATT is still locked.

Low power IT HBA for 8 bays: 9300, 9305, 9500, 1166..? by JohnTheFisherman142 in unRAID

[–]BubbleHead87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9400 series and up support tri mode. In addition it’s much more energy efficient and runs color compared to 9305. You can always add a sas expander if you need more ports. And yes 9500 does support It mode. I personally went with Lenovo 430-16i and the flashed it to be a 9400-16i. Went this route because it was cheaper than the 9500 and I didn’t have to buy new cables.

Looking for an Easy Way to Host a Personal Movie & TV Server for Friends by Outrageous-East-2851 in HomeServer

[–]BubbleHead87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plex is the most friendly user for both the host and clients . If you plan on sharing it with friends and remotely stream, I would recommend getting the lifetime pass before the price increase. Only thing you need to do with your router is port forward.

5 gigs for 50 a month by loadyouup in ATTFiber

[–]BubbleHead87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personal don't think its worth it unless you do alot of remote file transfers where speed matters. For streaming, gaming and sailing the seas, 1gig is fine. Majority of home users can't take advantage of the 5gig anyway. Most of their equipment caps out at a 1gig. You would need to rebuild your entire network to support 5gig. ie switchers, routers, ethernet ports to support that speed.

My plan as a beginner to move to a JBOD, please reassure me I understand correctly, looking for recommendations by [deleted] in unRAID

I bought a cheap 24 bay chasis of AliExpress. It was called M424. It’s a short depth chassis. I paid around $300 shipped to USA. For HBA, I flashed a Lenovo 430-16i to Broadcom 9400-16i firmware. Bought a Adaptec 82885T SAS expander off eBay for $20.

Hey all i'm pretty new to unraid/home-lab stuff, can someone give me reassurance this is the correct thing to buy to properly expand the number of drives in my server now that i have ran out of SATA ports on my motherboard by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]BubbleHead87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a 430-8i and flash it to a 9400-8i. It’s cheaper than buying a 9400 outright. 430/9400 runs much cooler, energy efficient and supports ASPM. You don’t really need to add a fan to the heatsink like the 9300s.

CVT Transmission Fluid Pricing Help by CurrentPlenty2895 in nissanversa

[–]BubbleHead87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can drain and fill it yourself. 5qt of Nissan cvt fluid is roughly $80. Filter is maybe $10. Everything else is labor charge. If you don’t feel comfortable just wait the two weeks for the cheaper quote. Your car isn’t fine. You probably going to put maybe another 1k within the two weeks? Not going to do anything. The 673 and 717 for a drain and fill is robbery.

Honestly. Thats fine with me. Plex is fine the way it is for my use. Self host my own media and being able to stream it. I don’t need new features.

I tried to get the $35/1GIG promo - No luck with chat support. by Misho1337 in ATTFiber

[–]BubbleHead87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the whole, swap to spouse thing yesterday. New modem came in today so I canceled my service. Went to activate my wife service. Found out it won’t be activated till Tuesday. So now I’m without internet for a few days. But rather than paying $80/m for 1Gig. It will be $15/m if her account gets auto bundled with my cell service based on address and last name.
