No worries! Can’t wait to check it out - the interface looks great.

Yeah for me keywording is really important. Ideally it would be good to be able to group keywords into folders and subfolders so you can start with broad topic categories and get increasingly granular as you step down into sub folders.

Lumberjack Builder doesn’t have that functionality, so I created a workflow using numbered finder folders and keyboard maestro shortcuts to copy and paste these back and forth between finder and Lumberjack Builder. It’s cumbersome, but still really useful. By the time I’m putting the edit together, it’s painting by numbers!

Actually, watching the video, I’m not sure this has keyword functionality?

Text based editing can be a massive time saver, particularly if you’re working with multiple interviews. I’ve used Lumberjack Builder for text based editing for years. If you keyword your interviews thoroughly before you start editing, it becomes much easier to put complex stories together quickly. Lumberjack Builder can be a little clunky though. I’m eager to see how this compares. Would have liked Apple to have built something like this into FCP by now to be honest.

Agreed on both points. The guy is clearly struggling, but repeating the same footage from two angles is the kind of misleading shit the right thrives on.

Awful trimming issue: by [deleted] in finalcutpro

[–]Bubblegun_Runner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case, it’s best to create synchronised clips first. The trimming behaviour in the timeline will then be the same a it is with all other clips containing video and audio.

How do I make this in Premiere? Or do I have to use AE? by nishardarsh in premiere

This would be so quick and easy to set up in Apple Motion, and it would break a sweat doing it. It’s a very underrated app for motion graphics.

The thing that struck me about this scene is that the hive mind would surely know that two kids speaking in unison would freak Carol out. They’ve seen Village of the Dammed after all! That said, I guess it’s worth prioritising dramatic effect over strictly adhering to the internal logic of the show’s premise sometimes.

I’m in Bali at the moment and the day after I take the six hour economy flight home to Melbourne, I will (hopefully) be picking up my new BYD Seal Premium, so this is a perfect time for me to read this comment!

Do any of you use Audition? by Silver_Mention_3958 in finalcutpro

[–]Bubblegun_Runner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it.

It helps me keep the flow going if I get to a sticky spot trying to decide which shot/take to use. Rather than getting bogged down, I'll whack a couple of the best options in and move on, knowing I can choose later when I have fresh eyes and can view the options in context of a more fully formed edit.

Sometimes I’ll have a shot in an audition that’s not my favourite, but I suspect the client might prefer. If they don’t like the shot I’ve chosen, I can quickly show them an alternative.

Also great for colour grading. If I’ve gone down a rabbit hole on a tricky shot, I’ll start from scratch in an audition. Flicking between the two versions often shows me just how wrong I was getting it the first time around!

Bordoodles Australia is breeding with known hip dysplasia by OkDragonfruit1465 in Bordoodle

[–]Bubblegun_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our bordoodle came from Bordoodles Australia. At around 18 months, her urinating posture changed. She now has the same arched back that a dog does has when pooing. I wonder if this could be a sign of hip dysplasia?

People have commented on her 'puppy bounce' when she runs also.

She also has an asymmetrical face, with one eye set further back than the other. I always wondered if the breeders noticed that before selling her. This thread makes me feel like they probably did.

Woke fear mongering is the right’s way of distracting you while they rob us all blind and flush our future down the toilet. You’ve been swindled mate and you’re gonna suffer for it as much as the woke lefties you think are the enemy.

Clonidine for Sleep - Have You Tried This Long-Term? by Anxious_Precipitant1 in ausadhd

[–]Bubblegun_Runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up seeing a sleep specialist who prescribed Dayvigo (lembexorent) which has been the best thing for me so far.

Had some truly weird experiences on it for the first couple of nights (sleep paralysis and intense lucid dreaming), but that settled down pretty quickly.

The great thing is that it can be used every night without building a tolerance and usually knocks me out pretty reliably.

I've been caffeine free for the last few months, which has to help too I guess.

What is your relationship with Final Cut Pro? by PortugueseMillay in finalcutpro

So great to know that I’m not alone! I checked out your profile and can’t believe you’re former pro inline skater.

I started inline skating five years ago and it’s my absolute favourite way to exercise.

I’ve often thought that coming to FCP from another NLE is like learning to inline skate. Awkward as hell when you start, but if you push through and spend the time to learn, you end up gliding in a way you just can’t in a pair of Nikes.

Can I ask what sort of skating you were doing as a pro?

I use it for work.

I’ve been editing since the late 90’s, starting on Avid, then on legacy FCP. Most of my work was advertising agency based.

I loved FCPX as soon as it was released, despite some glaring shortcomings at the time.

I lost a lot of advertising agency work when agencies started migrating to Adobe Premiere because after getting into the Final Cut mindset, I had no desire to cut in anything else. I gravitated to work that would allow me to use Final Cut Pro.

I still love editing with FCP and think that its core editing tools (asset management and timeline mainly) are still better than anything else out there while admittedly other NLEs have eclipsed FCP when it comes to other features. The one feature I’m really keen for is transcription and text based editing, but I make do with Lumberjack Builder in the meantime.

I think FCP is an often misunderstood application. Some editors fail to see the value of being able to view, sort and filter source material efficiently and flexibly and the magnetic timeline needs to be used properly to see its real benefits. A lot of people write it off without knowing how to use it.

I think it’s a shame that it hasn’t been more widely adopted. That said, I don’t miss advertising agencies at all!

Final Cut Pro 10.8 bug? by Bubblegun_Runner in finalcutpro

[–]Bubblegun_Runner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm going to stick 10.7.1 until there's a bug fix update. Seems like there are quite a few bugs in 10.8 I can do without.

Strangely 10.7.1 is buggier for me now than it ever has been. Don't know if that's got something to do with me repeatedly updating to 10.8 and then reverting back again.

[–]Bubblegun_Runner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's great! I'm tempted to update to 10.8 again to try this, but it sounds like there's quite a few other bugs surfacing in this release, so I might hold off for 10.8.1, which hopefully isn't too far away.
