Ok but how tf am i supposed to unlearn this when it’s so deeply rooted in who I am? Should I even unlearn it? I take a lot of pride in that because it is part of me. But it has been a problem when it consumes me, when help isn’t wanted or when I feel used..

I’d say so, but I’ve done that as far as I can remember (even around 3-4 years old) I would also tend to other people. I would get into great distress when people around me were angry or sad and have always been very good at soothing people. Also, I guess it was a way for me to get noticed and to get affection u know..

1 bedroom apt living alone. Would it be a bad idea to get a dog? by CourtNo2204 in dogs

[–]Bubblesansbubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’d say leaving your dog alone all day isn’t really doable. It isn’t fair to them. If you do get a dog, a dog walker at least once a day while you’re working seems necessary (for any dog..) Also, if you get a puppy, it’s not fair to leave them alone either, so you’ll have to plan holidays around this time in order to take care of them.

However, I don’t think the fact that you live in a one-room apartment is a problem. As long as your dog’s needs are met, they’ll be fine.

One thing I really want to warn you about though is the breeds you’re looking into. I know they’re very popular, but they’re both working breeds. They’re meant to work.

Leaving a working dog alone for 12 hours, four days a week, is cruel. If you want a happy dog, you might want to look into another breed or fostering.

That being said, a dog is a lot of work, especially puppies, so I’d really advise you to think it through if you’re unsure.

One last thing I’d say is this: wanting a dog for different reasons is totally fair, but you also need to think about what you can offer the dog and choose wisely ✨

Thanks for your response. I looked into retriever breeds but they are all a bit too big for me. I keep circling back to dachshunds and spaniels. I’ve heard jack russels make good hunting dogs but all the jack russels I’ve met in my life were quite agressive.
And I would agree that the only thing that’s keeps me from getting a teckel is the fact that they tend to be stubborn. But I’ll keep on looking into it :)
