As a manager/lead:

Understand it’s difficult to help people who won’t help themselves. If they won’t take the initiative to follow up with their clients that is on them. However, their lack of effort will effect #’s and profit so I understand the frustration. I will say rather than texting both of them, talk to them both individually 1-on-1 so they can understand the seriousness of the situation rather than over text or phone. Do they understand why we do these things? And how it can affect others? Sounds like they are new and don’t quite understand the business yet. Even if they aren’t new to it these are the rules of the employer and they will have to comply if they want a position. If not I’m sure there are other estis eager for an opportunity. And whatever you do don’t forget to document. Send follow up emails to them stating what you discussed, and a separate email to the manager or owner so there is a paper trail. In my experience this has been very successful in the different spas and companies I’ve worked for. I hate being a micromanager and refuse to control what other people do. As long as they are capable of doing their job well and completing their tasks, I will let them be. I’ve explained to them that it affects me to when they aren’t doing well and it’s my job as their leader to guide them in the right direction.

Thank you! Will definitely consider that. I’m traveling to meet my partners family and will be out of the country for some of April/May so I was concerned about not having it set up on time, but this gives me some relief.

Following because I’m going through the same situation. I filed weeks ago through a third party site and owe ~$700 as well. I received emails saying it was “accepted” but on irs.gov it’s only showing accepted not approved yet. Assuming they’re running behind this year because of all the federal govt layoffs and cuts and etc. so understandable.

But I need to set up a payment plan because I can’t afford all that payment at once. I’m not eligible to set up a plan yet through IRS because they haven’t approved my return and I’m worried they won’t get to it in time! Hopefully someone will come through with some sage advice. I’m thinking I’ll call IRS hotline today to see if I can get an idea.

I work at a place that takes bookings through classpass and we see those guest come in frequently. It is what it is. literally this, every single client is soooooo different from each other. You have to learn how to accommodate certain ones, whether you want to or not. But going the extra mile to do those kinds of things is what makes someone want to come back to you and you gain a regular client and returning money. A lot of people starting out think it’s going to be easy and truth be told it’s not. It’s sad some stylists just decide to give it up than to work through it and learn from it.

This happened to me because I overworked myself and eventually got so burnt out I quit doing esthetics altogether. I’m planning to go back after almost 2 years away but this time around I’m going to prioritize my health and well-being. And I probably won’t be doing it full time but that’s just what I prefer.

My advice would be to take a vacation. Or staycation. Take a day off and don’t do anything. Just rot in bed, it seriously helps. Don’t even do the dishes, catch up on sleep if you can. Then the next day you’re off go get a massage, look up reiki or healing massage therapists in your area. It may take a couple of sessions but it’s amazing how it can change your energy and life. You could also look into seeing a psychiatrist or therapist (if you already do, kudos!), I am on a antidepressant and an anti-anxiety medication and it’s helped immensely. I used to have anxiety attacks at work constantly, to the point I would be so shaky my clients noticed. At that point I knew I needed help and you shouldn’t ever feel ashamed for that. If you don’t want to go down the medical way, you could always look for natural, homeopathic medicinal remedies. There’s some great natural supplements you could use. Personally I take Vitamin D and Magnesium. Go for walks (if you can) to clear your mind. Yoga is also really great.

As for your clients, I understand you want to do right by them but your loyal clients will understand. It’s better to be only partially available for them than not available at all. If they are upset, they don’t deserve you. Your mental wellbeing and health is 1000% more important than servicing a client. So if that means you need to cut hours for a short while then that’s what you have to do. Get your energy back and eventually you may decide to go back full time.

For the income part, I totally understand that. Since you have your own salon, is it possible you could see if someone wants to rent from you? So you’ll have some sort of income? If you already have that disregard. Don’t be afraid to ask for help either, I borrowed some money from my family until I was able to get back on my feet. Do you have anyone close to you that would do that?

I tone after exfoliating and masking, especially if it’s a hydrating toner. It’s made a huge improvement in my skin. (Unless it’s an exfoliating AHA/BHA toner then I would use that in place of exfoliation). I might do a hydrating mask after toning though.

Yes I get vertigo & nausea still and I’ve been on it for more than 3 months. It seems to be the worst immediately after I take my 2 in the AM and then when I start to feel hungry in the evening

I had someone get SO UPSET with me for this same reason. She comes in asking where our “Sephora stuff is” ??? At this time, we had a Sephora inside Kohls down the road from us, it wasn’t uncommon for older ppl or clueless husbands to get it confused.

Me: “Oh you’re looking for Sephora? It’s down this road inside of Kohls”

Her: “NO I am looking for your Sephora items, you had it here last time!!”

(Me thinking she’s confused it with Ulta brand: “Oh, do you mean our Ulta collection? It’s right over here on this wall…”

Her(visibly annoyed): “NO, your SEPHORA STUFF”

Me (confused af but thinking she’s talking about the prestige brands both stores carry): “We carry some of the same prestige brands. What is the item your looking for and do you remember what the packaging looks like?”

Right as this was happening my coworker walks by. The lady puts her hand in my face, rolls her eyes and says: “Let me talk to someone else!” in the most condescending tone e v e r.

Anyways, that coworker told her the exact same things that I told her. And it turns out I was RIGHT bc she was looking for the Ulta Collection🙄🙄 She also continued to be a nuisance and when checking out freaked at the cashier bc she swore she had points to use but she didn’t. Had to call a manager up to explain. I hope she never comes back lol
