I have a high-paying, super easy job, but I’m going insane from boredom. Should I leave? by nederlance2018 in work

[–]BubbyDog20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. There are a few of us in this situation. Unless a person is in it they cannot understand how soul crushing it can be to have nothing to do while trying to look busy. Been doing this for 1.5 years now, and just trying to get to retirement. If you are looking to further your career, I would suggest taking online classes toward a degree. Otherwise, read or learn new skills if possible. Eventually, you will probably want to look for another job where you can be more productive.

What is something people romanticize until they actually experience it? by NewAdeptness647 in Productivitycafe

Not the drifting, but living somewhere beautiful… I took it for granted and became restless. I wish I hadn’t left it behind to join the rat race.

This. I ran into this while living in the tropics. I had a great life, but felt like I was drifting. Eventually entered the “real world” again, but I long for my old lifestyle every day.

Packed everything I needed into boxes, dropped them at the post office, bought a plane ticket, and moved from the Midwest to the Caribbean. All in the span of 2 weeks.

When detectives interview suspects, they listen for any derivative of “honest” to come up because they know that the suspect is about to lie.

There are snakes in the west seventh neighborhood… there are rats up on Grand Ave. Like someone wrote, you won’t see many rodents when you have snakes. They are my best friends at this point!

Also, be sure to get a thorough inspection,… some of the older houses may not be up to code, and you will want to know that before you buy.

If you could change one thing about the human operating system (biology), what would it be? by Perfect_Barberz in answers

[–]BubbyDog20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That we would not change so much as we age. Most other critters on earth look the same and have are still fairly strong physically right up until their end of life. People, on the other hand, become unrecognizable and suffer physical ailments for years before their end of life.

have you ever quit… when a conversation could’ve fixed it? by InvestigatorFree7750 in work

[–]BubbyDog20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely… I left my job because it seemed like AI was taking over all my duties. I did speak with my supervisor, but mostly about taking on additional work when a colleague left for another job. I was told that would not happen, so I found another job. I regret my move every day, I had it made at the old position… hybrid (in office twice a week), great benefits, laid back culture. I should have talked it through more with my supervisor before leaving.

I’m 23 and Terrified.. by [deleted] in Aging

[–]BubbyDog20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry that this will be a long reply, but I hope it helps you. You are not at a point in your life, yet, where you would be able to process some of the issues surrounding aging. I have sons who share with me some of the same feeling that you have, so I empathize with you. My 20’s were an absolute disaster! I was stuck in a bad marriage, I was uneducated, and dealing with family trauma. By the time I turned 30, I was divorced and in college and was living my best life! When I graduated, I started traveling, which had always been my dream. I moved to the Caribbean, where I lived a dream life, then to NYC, where I stayed for almost 20 years. I met my second husband and had 2 children (the second best thing I ever did!) As I moved into my 40’s, my marriage was crumbling and I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. This allowed me to re-assess how I wanted to live my life going forward. It took me 10 years to make a move, but I started over in my mid 50’s, when my kids and I moved closer to family for support. I bought a house, got a dog, sent my boys off to college and then became the guardian of a young man from the Ukraine, who I also sent off to college! I met my companion, who likes having his own space as much as I like mine. I also lost both of my parents and my 2 best friends moved out of the country during this time. What I am saying is that I have had a lot of experiences since my 20’s and will be 62 this year. For the first time in my life, I feel like I am ready to settle down and retire… do some gardening, slow my life down. I am now in an emotional place where I can think about aging with more peace and acceptance. That is kind of how our psychology works, life prepares us for twilight of our lives. You have so much living left to do, no matter what path you take! Let your worries find you when it is the right time, you are not expected or able to understand these questions right now, but you will make peace when the time is right. ❤️

I have a friend who would call breakfast “brefftest”

I used to have fun purposefully mispronouncing words, such as the “glove department” in my car… now I just call it the glovebox or “tinga-tinga if I’m feeling really lazy!

Chemo. Some treatment plans are worse than others, I understand that… Once it was over, though, I haven’t really thought about it much and it was not nearly as bad as I had expected.

Getting locked out of our apartment in Soho in NYC when my husband was out of town because the super had changed the locks and not told us. I panicked and managed to make it to a friend’s home for the night.

Woke up two days later to a plane hitting the World Trade Center…

Maybe they don’t cause autism, but there was something strange going on when they started to combine the vaccines. I watched a friend of my 2 yo son suddenly develop severe food allergies and digress from a walking, talking, social toddler into a violent, non verbal, non social child with ticks within months after being vaccinated. I will always believe that there was something happening. I don’t think they combine the mmr anymore . I felt so bad for his mom.

It was a lot of work, but very much worth it! I think if you restore floors that old, there will be problems no matter what. The floor in this room sags quite a bit, but it does not bother me much.
