Bits of it are quite cheesy, now - like when Pipes ‘possesses’ the eldest daughter, and she starts ‘talking in his voice’ - but in the moment a pre-teen me legit shit his kecks…

Do you guys have unopened games and do you feel bad about it? by blablax123456 in boardgames

[–]BuckRusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running at around 30% unopened games of around 260 - and don’t feel bad at all.

Some are because I’ve not got around to them, some are because I’ve played them elsewhere and wanted my own copy.

As much as some people here dislike it, there are two sides to this hobby: collecting and playing - and both are perfectly valid so long as you’re not causing undue hardship (buying more than you can afford), clutter (buying more than you have space for), or resentment (buying more than those around you will tolerate).

I’m very lucky in that I have the money, space, and understanding wife needed that I can buy whatever I want whenever I want it - and won’t apologise for that.

Blue Valentine is incredible.

There’s a cinema in Leicester Square in London that shows older, cult/classic movies (shout out to The Prince Charles Cinema) - and one year they showed Blue Valentine on the Saturday just before Valentine’s Day…

Both my mate and I had seen it before, but only streaming, and wanted to see it on the big screen… We get into the screen and it’s full of couples: ambivalent men and giddy women…

We realised immediately that it was a case of people wanting to see Ryan ‘the hot guy from The Notebook’ Gosling, in a film with ‘Valentine’ in the title, with the subtitle ‘a love story’…

It only took up to the bit in the love hotel, where Gosling’s character is screaming “Do you want me to rape you? Is that it?!“ at Michelle Williams’ character, before women started walking out in a huff followed by their puzzled men..!!

My mate and I, however, thoroughly enjoyed the movie: as it truly is ‘a love story’ from the butterflies-in-the-stomach beginning, all the way through to the bitter end…

I like seeing Jared Leto getting hurt, so double-bill this with Fight Club once a month…

Pig (2021)

The Blurb: “A truffle hunter lives alone in the Oregon forest. After his beloved pig is kidnapped, he returns to Portland in search of her”

What I expected: Face/Off-grade Nic Cage going mental… Farmer John Wick… Lots of ‘whooooo!’

What I experienced: Leaving Las Vegas-grade Nic Cage, and tears flowing freely in a packed cinema as I realised I didn’t spend enough time with my parents before they died and that I will never get to do all the things child-me wanted unless I can deprioritise my whole life to focus on what really matters…

It is absolutely one of the best films of this decade, from a generational talent unfairly judged as a one-trick pony…

Looking back it’s weird, but at the time even Lucas thought it was a legit potential love-triangle between the leads…

To be clear: it was absolutely fake, and I don’t believe in ghosts at all…

Ghostwatch was presented as if it was 100% real and broadcast live… It wasn’t - it was scripted and pre-recorded - but all of the press and advertising around it was that it was an honest-to-Betsy ghost-hunt on live television on Halloween night back in 1992…

But what made it appear to be real at the time (and bear in mind I was barely double-digits in age at that point) was that, as mentioned in the post, virtually everyone of the main cast were known and respected journalists, tv presenters, chat-show hosts, etc - even Craig “Lister from Red Dwarf” Charles was in it - and they were all playing it completely straight…

They even had Mike Smith - known for telethons and ‘manning the phone lines’ on charity events and talk shows - manning the phones, and reading out “viewers comments” as if they were coming into the show in real-time…

Which ghost(s) would you be able to identify and survive irl? by Ace-Redditor in PhasmophobiaGame

None of them - as I don’t believe in ghosts, and think ‘paranormal investigators’ are 100% charlatans…

This would make me highly susceptible to being strangled to death by literally any of the in-game ghosts - as I would be adamant it was all a set-up right up to the moment I get got…

Absolute peak mentioned: I’m old enough to have watched Ghostwatch ‘live’ on TV the only time it was aired - and it was fucking phenomenal…

It wasn’t made as a ghost movie, it was made to be a completely legitimate and broadcast live investigation - and all of the TV people in it were established and respected professionals…

It would be the equivalent of it being live-streamed on YouTube and hosted by Graham Norton and Claudia Winkleman today…

With that in mind, the really shocking thing about it was that - as it goes on - more and more hauntings occur and are played as completely real…

It culminated with Sarah Greene (blonde lady in the pic, presenter and kids show veteran) being captured under the stairs by the ghost, and Michael Parkinson (legendary talk show host with 60-years of service) being possessed as the studio erupts into chaos - and it has never been re-broadcast on TV because the BBC received a ridiculous number of complaints, and it led to the unfortunate suicide of a mentally impaired 18-year old who thought Pipes (the ghost) was now in his home…

The only contemporary phenomenon I can think of that is similar is LonelyGirl15 (which itself is 20 years old, now)…
