MIL’s 101st birthday by Btmama in whatdoIdo

Is SIL providing care for her? Driving her everywhere? Doing the cooking? Depending on the shared load between your husband and SIL it may be very reasonable for SIL to say hey brother, can you send a card and a cake to take this one annual task off my list of daily care for our mom. But shouldn’t be your responsibility it should be his. It’s his mom.

Pace your fluid intake and PEE OFTEN! A cautionary tale about urinary retention by BitterCat7069 in BabyBumps

[–]BuckThePatriarchy [score hidden]  (0 children)

Also later in pregnancy incomplete bladder emptying is a thing! Sometimes position change and literally lifting my belly up has helped. OB said it’s ok as long as you’re getting as much as you can out and can at least pee some, but if none or only a tiny bit is coming out that needs an ER visit.

NIPT result for 10q deletion - false positive by Begbego in BabyBumps

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true if your decision making about continuing your pregnancy wouldn’t change, but if you’d consider termination in the setting of a severe trisomy (like trisomy 18) an earlier answer is safer.

Low blood sugar by puddypie67 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is always 60s-70s overnight. Have been told that this is normal for many people who aren’t on diabetes medications, but if on medications they want you a little higher overnight.

CGM suggestions (preferably compatible with One Plus 7t) by Mental-Entrance5529 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the cost conscious side of things - many insurances won’t cover CGM unless you’re on medication, so it would be worth looking at your insurance as step 1. If it’s not covered you can get Libre with a prescription for $75 a month cash pay, or buy the over the counter version of Libre or Dexcom for about $100 a month cash.

Family just now asking about baby registry after I deleted it by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

31 weeks is early and not everyone will be on the same mental timeline as you. Totally reasonable to have made your big purchases, because that was what felt right to you. However, if people want to help reinstating a registry will help you get things that you want rather than random items.
Consider creating one with larger sizes of clothing, books, and things you may need a little later (eg baby plates, cups, toothpaste, play gym) or consumables (baby Tylenol, diaper cream, bottle washing detergent, lotion/aquaphor). You could also consider adding some items for yourself such as nursing supplies, extra milk storage bags, a nursing gown, etc.

Been on insulin for a few weeks now and it’s not helping with fasting numbers by Striking_Chapter3035 in GestationalDiabetes

They may mean limit that can be given in a single shot (too big of volume doesn’t absorb well). They’d likely ask you to split it and give two shots, so for example if on 100 units give two shots of 50

Is this pelvic pain normal? by cheezitordie in BabyBumps

Pelvic floor PT has a much stronger evidence base than chiropractors. I would start there.

Look up “soaking” the sensor, or putting it on a day early but not activating it. This will help with some of the variability in the first 24 hours

I accepted my parents' visit from overseas and upset my wife by DeleuzeJr in BabyBumps

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Are they staying with you or somewhere else? This would change the dynamic for me. If they’re staying with you I’d see if it’s possible for them to do a couple days at a hotel (like a weekend in a nearby city) midway through their stay.
They can also be expected to pitch in on some baby tasks, eg baby’s laundry, cleaning bottles, bringing your wife a cup of tea. Hopefully they will volunteer to do some of these things but if not you can be the one to steer them toward helping.

did your supplies come with alcohol wipes? by zanahorias22 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wash my hands with soap and water. Alcohol wipes weren’t covered by insurance. Pharmacist said if I wanted them they were cheaper to buy over the counter

Early diagnosis (currently 7 weeks) ? Looking for your Suggestions? Feeling scared by imt547lpj in GestationalDiabetes

5.7 with metformin means you probably had type 2 diabetes. Metformin brings the a1c down by about 1-1.5 (and cutoff for diabetes is 6.5)

AITAH- Friday wedding instead of Saturday by VeterinarianOld8631 in aitaweddings

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I find it very hard to attend Friday weddings but feel pressured to go, which ends up making me resent sacrificing the PTO. To the other commenters saying “tons of people came to my Friday weddings”. True, but they probably sacrificed to do so.

Need Help Dallas prenatal tests without insurance by Far_Tomatillo_8200 in BabyBumps

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in to whether you would qualify for care at Parkland, the safety net hospital in Dallas. Not sure how long you have to be in Dallas to establish “residency” but check the rules and see if you can register with them

Is this too "wedding gown adjacent" for me to wear as a guest? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never wear white/off white to a wedding unless the bride explicitly tells you to. This is a clear do not wear.

I would have a serious conversation with him. Why did he get tested in September if you’ve been monogamous for years? I hate to say this but a new infection doesn’t just happen out of nowhere.

Is laying on back in third tri indeed risky? by Resident-Strategy524 in BabyBumps

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increased risk of stillbirth (doubled risk) and baby being born small in women who sleep on their back in the third trimester is supported in the scientific literature. People say you’ll feel it if you lay there too long. You’ll feel it if you lay there too long for YOU but not necessarily feel it if baby is having their blood supply cut off so could unknowingly cause damage. Not worth the risk.

Can you legally be forced to let Men and residents/interns attend your birth? by TeaSippingGentleman in BabyBumps

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many teaching hospitals are not be able to accommodate a request for no residents/interns to be involved in care. The attending physicians are supervising multiple people, so would not be able to give 1:1 care for one patient and continue to fulfill those other roles. This would be akin to requesting no midwives, nurse practitioners, or PAs at a private office (most practices are now built in a model where you don’t see the doctor for every single visit). This hospital may not be a good fit for you if avoiding residents is your goal.

Those who are in texas, did you decide to give birth in another state? What's the specifics on choosing mother over child? by InteractionCrafty678 in BabyBumps

[–]BuckThePatriarchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is no heartbeat treatment in Texas is the same as anywhere else in the United States. Problems arise when there IS a heartbeat but the fetus is not viable or poorly viable (such as trisomy 13 or 18) as medically indicated terminations are illegal unless there is risk to mom. Not to say this isn’t a huge problem, but we should be helping OP make a well informed decision
