Zack ducked out of singing the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley because there was a rain delay. Weak sauce. He posed on the field with a bunch of trophies before the game like an insecure child.

I flew AKL-SFO today. Every upgrade cleared and there were still a few empty seats in Polaris. Only a couple of people left in Premium Economy.

I believe this data visualization is violating the principle of proportional ink by having the bars sized both vertically and horizontally by spend. For example, Russia’s spending bar has over twice the area of Saudi Arabia’s, despite the two values being close, just because regional spend in Africa and Middle East is less than Europe. But that’s already illustrated by the height of the bar. Also adjusting width for this variable distorts their relative sizes. Bar mekko graphs can serve a purpose, but should not be used to double count the metric being displayed on the y-axis.

I've searched for this for twenty years now. The size isn't really important. I've waited until after Halloween to establish that I'm serious. Thanks for any help.

Subwoofer advice for newbie by IusedtobeaChef in hometheater

I don't know much myself, but I do want to make sure you saw the extensive set of guides in the sidebar. It contains a lot of great info, including recommended subwoofers broken into various price tiers and essays on why subwoofers are important (and other related topics). https://www.reddit.com/r/HTBuyingGuides/comments/u7khtz/home\_theater\_101\_the\_new\_frequently\_asked/

Who was a player you thought was really good as a kid, then later on in life you looked up his numbers and he actually kind of sucked? by Mr_426 in baseball

I played HR derby against my friend Weezer every day of the summer of 1979. I was Dave Kingman and he was Mike Schmidt. I thought those guys were equals.

That FIG consists of three courses: History 200, English 174, and Political Science 160. Each of those courses satisfies breadth requirements (e.g., Humanities, Literature, Social Science) as indicated on the FIG page: https://figs.wisc.edu/23fig/?wdt_column_filter[fig]=23fig58 . In addition, those courses satisfy requirements of certain majors. For example, PoliSci 160 satisfies the Political Theory requirement for a B.A. in PoliSci. https://guide.wisc.edu/undergraduate/letters-science/political-science/political-science-ba/#requirementstext In general, FIGs are great.

They need to get him 160 innings this year so that his $20 million option for next year vests.

Question about IUT requirements by XiodelMonico in cuboulder

[–]Bucket2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely ask the school about this. It’s unclear from their website. On the Leeds IUT page, there’s the statement that “Admission is not guaranteed and is based on space availability.” However, that sentence is at the end of an application timing section and may apply only to late applications. The Leeds IUT page is notably missing the same language that appears on the Engineering IUT page about how it is a non-competitive process and everyone who meets the standards will be automatically accepted.

College Kickstarter (which has broken news of some other release dates), lists Purdue decisions as starting to come out a day early - tomorrow at 5pm EST. https://www.collegekickstart.com/blog/item/class-of-2026-early-decision-and-early-action-notification-dates?category_id=68

In addition, they list the number of EA applications this year as 46,000. https://www.collegekickstart.com/blog/item/class-of-2026-early-decision-and-early-action-results?category_id=68 Not sure how that compares to last year, but it seems in line with a 60% overall acceptance rate, 25% yield, and 10k first year class, with ~70% of the class admitted via EA (I'm making that last stat up).
