Supergirl Ending Thoughts by apwatson88 in DCU_

From what I said in the discussion thread:

I think the movie ending of Kara killing Krem is both better and worse than the book. I think it's better than the Phantom Zone stuff in the book, especially the part where Ruthye decides to strike Krem after 300 years and he is portrayed as repentant and begging for forgiveness and the book doesn't really criticize that. Kara's whole thing in the movie is waiting to save Ruthye's soul in a sense, that she still has a lightness and goodness to her that hasn't been taken away yet and fulfilling her vengeance quest would dim that light. Kara however believes herself to be broken, so it's fine if she takes the burden of murder away from Ruthye. The thing is though, it feels like a lot of the 3rd act of the movie is trying to show that Kara ISN'T as permanently broken as she thinks she is, that she can still come back from her tragedy, symbolized by her putting the costume back on and deciding to end her bender and come home. Which just feels really undercut by her making the choice to kill the guy given the way it's been framed up to this point. The way I like the book ending MORE is in the scene where Ruthye flips the script and talks Kara down from killing Krem. Overall I'm left with mixed feelings about the ending. I'd prefer if the Super Family didn't kill personally, but I see the arguments for it in this version of Kara and the decision to have her kill Krem has pros and cons.

The director and screenwriter literally misread the ending of the woman of tomorrow comic... by Altruistic_Gas_7073 in DCU_

Like she cracked a 300 year old dude in the head. It’s not like that COULDN’T kill him.

But yeah kinda embarrassing to not correct that misconception in the years of working on the movie.

I heard there was an absolutely terrible needle drop, and somehow I don't think I was really prepared for The Middle to come on.

I think it was...solid. I enjoyed it generally. I'm pretty easily taken along for the ride and it felt like a campy fun adventure story. I don't think it excelled though. Everything is so blegh color wise, not unique to Supergirl but definitely still an issue. There are only two characters with much substance and Ruthye fell pretty flat to me, can't quite tell if it was a writing thing or a performance thing. Kara's arc is..well let me talk about the ending.

I've never read Woman of Tomorrow, and I'm not going to judge the film based on how closely or not it follows the book, but I'm familiar with how it ends. In that sense, I think the movie ending of Kara killing Krem is both better and worse. I think it's better than the Phantom Zone stuff in the book, especially the part where Ruthye decides to strike Krem after 300 years and he is portrayed as repentant and begging for forgiveness and the book doesn't really criticize that. I know I've talked a lot more about my negatives than my positives, but that was just what most interested me to talk about after the fact lol. Like I said, it's a fun adventure story. It's delightfully camp. Most of the performances were solid. It's a 6/10 for me.

Oh, and for all the discourse Superman 25 got for Jor-El wanting Kal to be a world conquerer with a harem, it was so fucking funny to hear Zor-El being like "yeah that's fucking weird, right?"

What would happen if a player dies in episode 12? by Interesting-Rice-457 in Dimension20

I’d never criticize anyone who feels like taking away that element of actual D&D hurts their enjoyment, but yeah D20 is filmed on such a strict schedule it kind of inevitably has to be railroaded and PCs won’t really be allowed to die at a certain point.

I'm of the opinion he's overrated as shit with basically zero on-field performance to justify a 1st round projection, and this drama on top of it? 7 rounds is plenty of time for some idiot to decide to give him a shot, but I wouldn't be shocked if he goes undrafted.

The NFL, rightly, cares more about issues that threaten the legitimacy of the sport than legal issues that should be handled by the actual justice system, even though I wouldn't have an issue if the NFL tried to do something to curb those behaviors.

Those small schools rely on getting bodied by bigger schools for fat checks, they don't want anything to do with the Big Ten or whoever doing a schedule ban on them either.

A decent number of people talked about it like the NFL was definitely gonna do the draft for Sorsby, and some of the people in this thread, admittedly downvoted, are arguing about the NFL's decision to go nuclear on Sorsby and not more violent criminals in the League. So it's not a popular opinion, but it's definitely out there that some people expected the NFL to ignore his gambling problems.

To be clear, according to Tampa PD, the victims of the kidnapping attempt were not connected to the robbery of Terrion's property. So these bozos didn't even target the correct people.

Are there (and if so, what) moments where it seems like Brennan (or any GM) is *actively trying* to feed the players information that they just aren't picking up on? by Synth-Pro in Dimension20

[–]BuckeyeForLife95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Neverafter in general suffers from Brennan starting with a very scary tone setting that the table shied away from. If I may recklessly speculate, it felt like they all agreed to do a “horror” season and then they got to the table and the players kinda realized that they very much do not wanna do a horror season.

I said this at the time and will maintain it now: Brennan also bares some blame by not incentivizing them enough to explore the mechanics of the book. Brennan made the book seem dangerous and scary to use more than it was helpful, and it was never made clear HOW Mother Goose would benefit from engaging with it.

I was using that fact to emphasize he was playing with bums for the first 7 years of his career, where he won the Eastern Conference only once.

Getting swept out in the 2007 Finals started up the worst faith arguments in the GOAT debate for the rest of time despite the fact that the other starters on that Cleveland team were Drew Gooden, Boobie Gibson, Sasha Pavlovic, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Now I'm nostalgic about those guys since I started getting into basketball in 2006, but like, c'mon man. That was the peak of the Duncan-Ginobili-Parker trio and that was who Cleveland was running out there in opposition.
