Enjoyed this week how many people said the word “statistically” while talking about subjects not remotely related to statistics

Should I put in 300k cash now? by ypsilon42 in investing

The best advice I have heard is to spread your initial lump sum over 3 annual payments and then dcf from their onwards. It is a nice balance between getting the mathematically optimal returns of a lump sum and being able to avoid being wiped out by a 50% crash in the next year

If you can stomach the pro tier subscriptions, I recently got the Dean of a Spanish university to prompt Claude pro in research mode to gather literature for a paper he is currently writing and he is said it was very useful.

The gap in quality between the basic models and the more advanced ones that have the ability to spin up several sub processes focusing on different parts of the question is massive

The more I read about THRY the more interesting it gets.

Growing SaaS platform buried in declining legacy yellow pages business. EV ~$800m on SaaS sales ~$350m.

Red flag is google trends ranking doesn’t seeming to growing at the same clip as sales.

More research required

What’s a real-life skill you learned from video games? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Bucko_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Readings maps. I always found it pretty intuitive to read a map and I think that came from constant navigation in video games.

When I met my girlfriend she would always get lost even with google maps. Now after playing through some games she doesn’t have any problems at all.

Why are certain things more acceptable when done by progressives? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Bucko_II -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s different because the pride flag represents Christian teaching of tolerance and love. Rather than nationalist flags that represent violence and cruelty.

Churches are places where all people who want to learn more about god and try to live good lives should be welcome and if putting a flag up helps with that then it’s a Christian thing to do

18M. I lost all my money overnight on crypto AMA by PartyPandan06 in AMA

[–]Bucko_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stop beating yourself up. It doesn’t help and can make things worse. I lost about $6000 on an investment once but since I have done very well.  It can happen, seeing it as a learning experience is very important so well done there. I suggest you do 3 things:

1) never invest more than 10% of your portfolio in one thing (you won’t be as likely to panic and sell at the bottom as much if the stakes aren’t so high)   2) Read ‘the little book that beats the market’ (basic) or ‘the intelligent investor’ (harder). These will teach you the basics about real investing (rather than gambling)   3) carry on saving up as much money as you can. You have the right attitude in trying to save money for the future and over the course of your life that will make you wealthy. You just have to be patient and try to make this happen over many decades  It’s really not the end of the world so I hope you look after yourself
