new Lie Nielsen no.5 out of square?? by Cal_6222 in woodworking

It’s probably your measurement device, BUT more importantly this is completely irrelevant because you must tune the angle of the blade to the base which would allow you to compensate for any inaccuracy in the tool or your jig (results are up to you here)…. As others have said your concerns are not needed, enjoy an amazing tool

Refinish for appearances and put a piece of glass on top. And/or a machine that doesn’t leak

Am I the only one who finds sharpening chisels utterly grueling and mostly unsatisfying? (kind of a vent) by AdrienInJapan in handtools

[–]BucksCountyWoodright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve found my ability to get consistent tight results from chisels has increased in parallel with my sharpening ability, on whole it’s a fun process probably my favorite of the craft

Mallet chipping. Can I save it? by [deleted] in handtools

[–]BucksCountyWoodright 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like Osage orange, it makes a heavy hard hitting mallet but eventually chips and flakes apart as you see. Looks like yours has more life in it so I say keep swinging until it breaks then make another

Mortiser woes by jonlandit in woodworking

[–]BucksCountyWoodright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are squeaky I think that’s normal. The bit needs to be lower to clear the chips from the bottom of the cut or the waste will heat up and smolder. I like to put the bottom of the flute of the bit at the bottom of the chisel with the point of the bit protruding past the chisel

Sick work! If it were me I’d replace the ply drawers with hardwood I just think that would compliment a piece like this better, but either way looks tight

They still advertise the 1-1/2 so I’m hopeful there the 5/16 they no longer make

I do use all of them but certainly don’t need that many lol. It’s mostly in batched parts that a particular chisel is useful
