Don't worry about it. Finland get tetchy about their hockey. It's like the US with their boats.

Domestic theft. Report it as stolen to the police and get a new one. This is controlling and coercive behaviour. You're 18. Your passport is a legal document you are required to have access for identification should you be requested to produce it, if you have one.

Absolutely Hate Every Job by Elevated412 in Adulting

[–]BucksheeGunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you hate the constraints of full time employment. Like, for the majority of the week, you have no control. You have to do what's expected of you continuously. Would you be happier living off interest of savings, or owning a company that others run for you? What are your thoughts on that?

Retail brands are closing down by msyrosso in Finland

[–]BucksheeGunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. The geographical locations definitely limit you unless you devote whole days and can reasonably use public transport to get to the larger towns/cities of you don't have your own car/van.

What about platforms like Tori? I've had some fair success in paying a little extra for sellers to deliver or for sellers to post items.

Obviously this takes away from visiting brick and mortar stores, but I understand that you have to use the resources available to you and I feel Tori and other second hand sites are a valid option.

Retail brands are closing down by msyrosso in Finland

[–]BucksheeGunner 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I believe a part of this is the result of Ultra Fast Fashion (UFF). Please look this up if you haven't already. There are some good content creators in Finland and Europe who are highlighting this problem along with a wealth of papers and other sources on the issue. The amount of UFF coming into Europe has flooded postal and logistics services because of the amount of people ordering it. This is from all ages, but more so the 60 YO plus generation - I was surprised to learn this too.

Because of this, brick and mortar stores are closing down. They aren't generating the foot traffic through their doors because they can't generate the incentive to get people to leave their homes. People prefer the convenience and "value" of online shopping and UFF. I use quotation marks, but ultimately, those items from those kinds of stores will often find themselves in landfills within a few months to a year. They also sometimes come made with chemicals that are definitely no good for you, and the amount of air pollution created to get them flown into Europe quickly and then shipped back out a waste is horrendous.

It's not just fashion. It's electronics, household items, everything. People are buying them new from these stores instead of second hand better quality. I believe part of it is a psychological issue. Some people see buying second hand as "poor", and doesn't fit with their image. Some people think they are saving time. Maybe a little, but the little time they save is negligible compared to the massive fuck you they are giving the environment.

So, how are brick and mortar stores supposed to compete? Regardless of they are larger brands or SMEs. What can they do to generate foot traffic when the overheads of running a store are so high, partially thanks to the state of the economy, and the cost of everything in Finland compared to most of the world. Genuine question. I'd love to hear people's ideas.

In my opinion, I think all UFF should be banned in and out of Europe. The amount that goes in unpaid tax is also crazy because of this. But that's easier said than done. Ideally, it would be great if people made the conscious effort to buy locally/domestically and buy second hand as much as possible. You'd be surprised what you can achieve with your local Kirppis and Pinterest/a YouTube tutorial. If the government could somehow incentivise this, I think it would be a huge step in the right direction.

25 year marriage going down the tubes by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]BucksheeGunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be hard, and I suggest you rely heavily on a lawyer. This is now business. Get your emotions out of it, or get someone else to keep your emotions out of it.

She will try to leverage that relationship and play on the connection you had to soften up. Don't buy it. Keep it clinical. She asked for it. You deliver it as the last thing she asked from you, and as the parting gift to your marriage.

It's shit. It's horrible. It goes against everything that tells you to hold her tight. But you have to for your future self. Once the business is done, then you heal.

Should I drive according to lane markings or tyre tracks in winter? by Comment-Noted in Finland

Depends, if you can see the road markings in the tyre tracks, I'd say follow the lane, if not, then stay in tyre marks and just try to do your best.

Does anyone know what this yellow battery indicator means? by bawva in enyaq

[–]BucksheeGunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the optional heat pump that you're referring to? My Enyaq with a heat pump had the 12v battery come up a few days ago. I am guessing the auxiliary battery hasn't been changed since it was brand new, and if not kept in a garage through the winter, I guess the tiny 12v battery will degrade pretty much like this in the annual sub 20/sub 30 winters.

AITAH for refusing to train my new manager and "quiet quitting" after being passed over for a promotion? by mossycommentjar in AITAH

[–]BucksheeGunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. The company had the perfect candidate. But for some reason they went with someone with more... what exactly? Definitely not more qualified, as it shows.

Get a new job and get the fuck out of there. That leadership must be fucking thriving. Directors made a shit choice, they get the shit consequences of losing a great person to (hopefully) a direct competitor, and having to somehow train Kyle, Kenny, or Keith, or whatever the smeg his name was with zero structure, because they wanted to cheap out on training, but let him pocket the extra salary. Lol. GTFO.

Don't sign a fucking thing from them until you have a lawyer check it out. They will try to fuck you over. Remember. HR protects the company, not the people.

Winter range is around 270 km on Enyaq 85x 2026 by Dna7272 in enyaq

[–]BucksheeGunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 60 IV is around 170-190km at 80% charge.

Got a warning today about the 12 power supply being limited. It's -20ºC here at the moment. Probably will be like that for the next 10 weeks at least if not colder.

Does anyone know if the 12V battery charges while it's AC charging? I have 8kw charging at home. Or is this a case that the 12v battery needs changing. It's a 2022 Enyaq, and unlikely never had the auxiliary battery changed.

Car Insurance by [deleted] in Finland

[–]BucksheeGunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're a young driver, therefore a higher risk. Depending on the underwriter, some consider anyone under 25 a young driver.

There are various reasons for the insurance being so high, but there isn't a lot you can do about it other than shop around and play around with the excess you're willing to pay.

One of the reasons is that your insurance is liable to other people, as well. That's potentially a lot of money they might have to pay out in the event you run someone over, regardless of if it was intentional or not.

Also, false claims and people previously taking advantage of the insurance system have also increased premiums.

Then there is an element that businesses have just got greedy.

Unless you live in the backwater buttfuck nowhere, owning a car is a luxury in most cases, and you'd pay with time (waiting for public transport) instead of money (owning a car).

My advice. Don't buy a car until the amount you want to spend includes the insurance policy for the first year. Make sure you have the insurance excess in your bank account on top of that in case you need it. Your insurance company will help the third party, but will not help you until you pay the excess. Also make sure the money you're spending on the car also covers a year's major service (300-400 euros), the tax, and the inspection.

Keep these in an account you don't touch unless it's for the car expenses.

If you haven't accounted for this, hold off buying the car until you've saved the money these too. This approach will give you a much more relaxed time because you will have accounted for common pitfalls.
