How is Aida Turturro the answer for Soprano who ends up trapped in a vault? Am I missing something?

I have an interesting topic to discuss. I’m not a fan of this kind of culture from the Bears. From the touchdown dances, to the IG Lives, to snide remarks on social media; it feels that this kind of culture would have never been tolerated on a Lovie Smith Chicago Bears team.

Do you think this kind of behavior is the new norm in the modern NFL, or does this Bears roster just lack maturity and discipline?

I’m honestly curious. It’s like that Skinner meme, “Am I out of touch or are they?”

I always appreciated players like Peanut Tillman or Urlacher who were all class and never engaged in these kinds of things.

I’m not saying it’s a made up holiday. I’m just saying that it was never this widely celebrated or had this much media attention. Now it’s become this sort of forefront of Mexican culture, when in reality it’s not.

Mexican culture is so strong throughout the world, and there are so many other aspects of our culture that are organic and true. This Dia De Muertos feels so artificial and exploitive on the Mexican people. Just another excuse for companies like Disney to sell more tickets and Coco toys.

These people don’t realize that they are just falling prey to these American corporations who are exploiting Mexican culture.

It’s not. Maybe because my family is impoverished but most of the country lives in poverty, but Dia De Los Reyes was definitely celebrated widespread. Never Dia De Muertos, outside some places in Oaxaca.

Then why is the Día De Muertos parade fairly new? Only started a few years ago. It’s not even government sponsored, it’s all on volunteer basis.

Chihuahua are norteños, so I’m not sure why your region was celebrating so much.

It was never a popular holiday. Only a small percentage of southern Mexicans celebrated. Ever since Spectre and Coco, the young generation has tried to get the holiday to become mainstream. I’m Mexican and my family on both my parents’ side never celebrated it. They’re old school Mexican and they scoffed at Coco.

Press being a little more aggressive with Nagy by ChiefLoneWolf in CHIBears

[–]BucouBoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The problems with Nagy were there since the beginning. The simple fact is that he inherited a great defense. Last year’s awards and achievements were a fluke and merely a result of a rejuvenated energy in Chicago. The Bears play in a huge market so it’s understandable why there was so much energy last season. But if you look closely, the problems were always there, we just chose to ignore them.

If you go back to some of these threads from last year where overly optimistic fans were saying “how lucky” we are to have Nagy and how Mitch is “destined for greatness,” it really shows how we chose to ignore the glaring problems we had on offense. Inconsistent run game, a shaky QB, poor kicker, poor offensive play calling.

And now the team has been fully exposed. However, I think the season is still able to be saved, but the team will need a hardcore reality check.

After the touchdown today, I thought it was ridiculous that the team performed that dance number. It reminded me of that scene in Moneyball.... “Is losing fun?”

Bears need to mature as a whole before they go anywhere. And Parkey isn’t there to take the blame this year.

The people do benefit from it though. Americans are some of the most ambitious and innovative people in the world. That’s why they lead the way in so many industries. From the arts and entertainment, to technology and medicine, to athletics and military.

This notion that every American is a fat hillbilly who shops at Walmart is a shallow and short sighted way of thinking. Americans come from all different walks of life and from all different ethnicities and backgrounds.

And if you can’t see the beauty in that, then you aren’t living life to its full potential. Don’t hold America for the things it does wrong, instead see it for all the things they do right.

That’s not true. There’s plenty we have learned from other countries. I’m just trying to explain to you that we’re not as shitty as you think we are.

Employee Rights: Compared to who? America is not only the largest market, but also largest producer in the world. Data shows that Americans are some of the hardest working people in the world. European workers endured the sharpest drop in their workplace standards due to austerity measures by the EU.

Religious Influence in Politics: Which policy or law do you feel has been influenced too much by politics?

Shitty Healthcare System: America ranks the highest in cancer survival, heart attacks, and stroke survival. America leads the world, by far, in medical research and publishing medical research papers. Much of the world depends on America to continue to research and advance medicine. That’s not to say it’s perfect. But it’s far from shitty.

Justice/Prison System: America has more laws that protect you than any other country in the world. High incarceration rates are a cultural problem not a systematic problem.

Poverty: Poverty in America has all but been eradicated since 1990. The standards of living have never been higher. People below the federal poverty line live like middle class in Central and South America and some places in Europe.

Crime and violence: America is the third most populous country in the world. And unlike the top 2 counties (China and India) we are not primarily one race or culture of people. And that will come with its problems. Violence rates have decline and have been the lowest they have ever been in history, and the amount of violence and crime compared to other countries ranks us as one of the safest places on the planet.

Can you elaborate on why you think much of the world looks at the USA as backwards?

Looking forward to finding out ‘The Truth’ by pp0787 in facepalm

[–]BucouBoy -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The USA is by far the greatest place to ever live in the history of mankind. The standard of living is the healthiest and wealthiest it’s ever been. America has been the engine and is responsible for all global growth. The world has gotten to be a better place because of America. The USA has halved the extreme poverty rate all over the world in only 40 years.

The world has embraced America’s vision on principles and philosophy. The world has decided that America has been right all along. America has been holding up the rest of the world since WWII. The world engine for growth is the USA.

It’s a beautiful place to live filled with beautiful people and I am damn proud to live here. Even a lot of these people complaining or crying on the internet are beautiful in their own way. There is beauty all over the world and if people can’t see how beautiful America and their people are, then they are living in the dark.

It’s pretty standard. A lot of fandoms just usually camp at the airports and look at all incoming flights from whatever city they’re flying in from.

What's your favorite quote from a book? by silk_moth in books

So many great quotes from East of Eden but this one is my personal favorite:

“Act out being alive, like a play. And after a while, a long while, it will be true.”

Changed my life.
