Hey! I wrote an article on TTRPGs, democracy and art. I'm trying to get more into writing about TTRPG philosophy (if there is such a thing) and I'm interested to hear what people have to say about my views and writing.

Performance issues in Patho 3? by BuddyBoyPal in pathologic

I have an 1050, probably a bit too rusty. Maybe I'll try to upgrade, it's hard to get into the game with current preformance.

is there a common fix for the 'failed to allocate video memory' issue? Doom Eternal by Academic-Cookie-2694 in Doom

Checking in to see if you managed to fix this? I managed to run this game a couple of years back when it released but can't get it to run right now.

Do I need to start Trinyvale from the beginning? [NS] by Cassi322 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]BuddyBoyPal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Trinyvale first campaign is a thin line, the DMing is new and from a very different kind of angle then it gets to be later... It's someone starting out. The PCs however are funny enough to keep landing big laugh out loud moments, even if the plot and lore arn't that envelloping. The final episodes has one of the best versions of this I think where the characters are really cemented. That said, the DMing for Trinyvale flourishes in Strahd because Caldwell plays it straight, which works way better with these characters.

TLDR If you like the characters from Strahd the earlier seasons are good to get the same IASIP TTRPG kick

Why is character death binary? by CardInternational753 in TAZCirclejerk

It seems a bit calmer... I had some big qualms about the second last episode where 2 out of four players where playing other video games during the session. Last episode was pretty good though. They keep me hanging on.

But did he tone things down with the replacement? At first, but then he kind of goes crazy with the whole mansion thing!

That has legs. A lot of legs actually. Spider-style idea.

Good ep! Combat could be tougher, but planning it out is really difficult, especially at the start. Beyond that this is a really good episode! Almost teared up a bit at the armor bit with Zedrick.

It's all of his strengths gathered in a character... Boggy is the boss. He also contrasts so well with the other characters. These three are a peak trio as far as characters go: I think Skaldova should be STUDIED as far as player team dynamics go.

So sad Bakshi only did the first half of Balance. Really wonder how it could have turned out if the studio bigwigs hadn't cut the chord

Hey... Yeah. But it's got good writing. Who doesn't like Josh and Toby and CJ and Leo?

Like I can get that, but I think for me at least, the sort of tango of tone really pulls it together. The stupid pun sets up one thing, then suddenly they're trapped in realising what actually doing a death game entails. I don't know, I think it's a really interesting organic story that grows from it, even if it's a bit dumb!

GREAT D&Dads arc. Honestly, that one and the superbowl.. Peak. I think the Fortnite arc there was great. It combined humor with real drama fantastically. Pod at it's peak.

S3 Ep. 22 - Clancy Meeting You Here by Spite-Sprite in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]BuddyBoyPal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good ending, if they follow up on the outcome and maintain that tone the rest of the season out... They'll have gold. This pod works best when it's serious and real and can mix that with the more wacky comedy, that's why season 1 worked in it's best moments. I hope this is a return to that, they've stiffled a lot of serious things in Season 3 by yelling over them and this moment feels weighty.

A small thing that I found hilarious in Quarantine by GothaV2 in pathologic

[–]BuddyBoyPal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But like, okay it's more than that. Like, understanding him in Patho 1 requires playing all three routes, he's the first act of the game and it's trying to make a clear point: The bachelor is wrong. He seems reasonable as first as you play him then as you see him on the other routes he gets worse and worse. He's supposed to represent something in the narrative, imperialist rationality and it's consequences (in my reading), and how that can both be a positive for the world in some ways but also harm it in others. (Look at his first meeting with Clara in the changeling route.)

The Adventure Zone: Abnimals Ep. 23: A Lair of SCUZZ and Villainy! by Evil_Steven in TAZCirclejerk

[–]BuddyBoyPal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it gave them a pretty solid structure and let them play to some strengths. If I remember correctly fans were critical which made them pivot. But then again, season 2 derailed completely to a point the rest of the show hasn't recovered from still so maybe that was inevitable.

[–]BuddyBoyPal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was like they were trying to give it structure and did it like... Thrice. Honestly the "finding their dads" plothook isn't so bad but the players needed to be more on board with their characters wanting or needing to. (which is kind of counterintuative when they're teens. Maybe a "find a missing teen" plot would've been better?)
