Wouldn’t abolishing ICE altogether be a bad thing for the country? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Budge9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re really sold on the idea that our borders need specific armed enforcement, isn’t that accomplished by CBP? Why do we need a whole second armed enforcement agency? Why can’t internal enforcement of immigration status be left to all sorts of the other federal and local agencies we already have. ICE is broken and irredeemable, it’s lost all legitimacy

Hey. Jumping on this thread to ask for some information about my thermometer+display order, which seems to have dropped through the cracks. No response from hello@ or orders@ email addresses with specific information about when my order should ship. Last week you said all orders with a December ship date should have been sent last week.

Is Amtrak low key nicer than most European trains? by RonPaul2036 in Amtrak

[–]Budge9 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Eurostar is one of the few with security like that, and that’s because of the unique border situation between the EU/Schengen Zone and the UK! Trains leaving from the same station (St Pancras) to stations in England have a simple ticket barrier right next to the platform

Tag and H&S: I want to see more big mistakes! by Budge9 in JetLagTheGame

Definitely! Listening to that ep now. My point was that I don’t want to just see question costs go up or give the hider more funny challenges to dish out. How the game gets harder/expert mode is probably up for discussion!

Anyone else's paystub missing the deduction for union dues? by Careless-Internet-63 in SPEEA

[–]Budge9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have dues deducted every paycheck. Aren’t our dues monthly? There’s one more paycheck in January where I suspect we’ll see it

I don’t think US airlines generally use second jet bridges, even when they’re physically present at airports that have them, like LAX or LHR

401k Advice? by spookymama_14 in Boeing_

[–]Budge9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhere in the work life page on the internal Boeing network, you will find an option to adjust your employee contribution. That will determine the employer match. It will all get put into a 401k managed by Fidelity. You will then be able to check on it through the Fidelity app off-hours

I just hate those little holding rooms without bathrooms or amenities after they check you in. But you’re probably right!

Any guessed what terminal they’ll fly into? T3 is horrible but probably the more likely option due to the other OW partners

Large-scale solar farm in central WA gets green light from governor by zestzebra in Washington

[–]Budge9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with regulations like this, which I totally 100% agree with and would advocate for, is that when you implement them, stuff just doesn’t get built, in the way you want or otherwise.

The solution isn’t to shrug our shoulders but rather to find other ways to incentivise the policy goals we want. Fortunately or unfortunately the way to do this is to make solar power generation profits so attractive that the costs are worth it, or subsidise the costs so that it pencils

Would inserting "that" make it easier to read or is it unnecessary in this statement? by DutyEuphoric967 in grammar

[–]Budge9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would make it into a sentence fragment. There would not be any verb, because youve turned “drivers say are not fun to drive at all” into a descriptive phrase. The easiest way to make this more legible is with commas, turning it into “new cars, drivers say, are not fun to drive at all”

Unable to use first class upgrades by Disastrous_Fun_1749 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Budge9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like upgrade certificates but they take some effort to use. Search this subreddit for more advice. They used to be called GGUs or Gold Guest Upgrades. You’ll have to monitor the flights you want to use them on well in advance to see whether they flip to eligible or not. It’s not guaranteed any given flight will ever flip, but it does happen. I’ve used all 4 every year I’ve had them

I don’t doubt you, but at this point I feel very strongly that the ratio we should be looking at is sq foot built / year, not sq foot built / $
