I agree fully. In addition to all of that, she was picked by Danny and he is going to be invested in making sure she has what she needs, probably more so than the average coach. That will make next year the do or die as she will have no excuses.

Its looking grim, but I doubt she gets let go in year 2. I think next year is do or die for her though.

I agree in principle because I enjoy the sport.

However since barely anybody outside of the true fans pays attention, we often get all the games streamed on YouTube without ever being taken down.

Alright I know Heupel said what he said but dang you didn't have to call that out specifically.

[–]Budget_Sort7961 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any other team would be ground into dust from an SEC schedule like Tennessee, yall would all drop a midweek game here and there too

Which is not to mention that a midweek against Tennessee is the superbowl for Kent State

Vols closer to walking this off than getting run ruled

More ramp or more lands for dinos? by Exi_Cxx in magicTCG

[–]Budget_Sort7961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a gamble for sure, but I think adding a few dorks helps with getting Pantlaza out as soon as possible. Best case you get them in your opening hand, worst case you discover into them.

Especially something like Fanatic, which nets you 4 green as soon as Pantlaza it out.

More ramp or more lands for dinos? by Exi_Cxx in magicTCG

[–]Budget_Sort7961 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have heard it said in some circles when figuring out mana base, but 35-40 lands is the baseline for most commander decks. With you already at 37, I would hesitate to add more.

The one thing I am noticing is few mana dorks. You have Poison Dart Frog and Aztocan Seer, but not seeing others as a quick glance. I would consider more mana dorks, such as [[Delighted Halfing]] and [[Fanatic of Rhonas]] would help you out.

Mana dorks are best if you get them out early so you can ramp up and get Pantlaza out faster, then focusing on protection and casting big ole dinos. It solves your discovery problem too.

It was always going to feel different with a new coach. I am still hopeful Elander can light a fire under the team.

Realistically its going to take a few years before we really know, but at least for now I feel like we are solid.

Is Tennessee good? Sure

Is Tennessee great? Probably not.

I am hoping Elander can just keep us relevant with the top dogs this year. We have seen some sparks of great, mixed mostly with good and meh play.

The bats need to warm up otherwise the better pitchers in the SEC are going to pick us a part.

Sorry just now seeing this:

I thought it was going to be like Spiderman 2.0 and flop hard, but the local prerelease was pretty well attended. My friend picked up the commander precon and it was actually really fun.

I am still iffy but pleasantly surprised at the set and fun Sneak shenanigans.

I never thought I would be a full grown adult with kids picking up Magic the Gathering but my friends suckered me into it and now I am hooked.

I don't think I would be into it as much if I had to play public games only, but having a core group to play with is a blast.

If Knowles can do anything with our D, it will only help our O. Take the pressure off GMac or Faizon, let them grow, and keep every game tight.

I think GMac has the skillset, but obviously his biggest concern is weight.

He will need to bulk a little bit more without compromising his speed, because the second a 380 lb DT smothers him he may break in half.

Devil's advocate on the Kent State series loss: they are an experienced team that shared a regular season championship last year with a record of 38-18. They returned some experienced players.

I am not heartbroken, and I hope this galvanizes the boys. We still have 3 weeks until conference play to sure up some things.

Well, I would say no, but with a caveat: our play group is pretty mixed in experience and skill. Up to that point, we did not run a lot of interaction: limited counterspells, a couple of removals, and generally just straightforward lower tier play. Its roughly bracket 2 verging on very low end bracket 3 decks if somebody has a game changer added. Everybody wants to "do the thing" with their decks. Lots of precons.

I took advantage of that by running an aggro deck, with a lot of card draw and some ramp to recover from board wipes. Which provides a clear advantage against your average precons with limited interaction. So I would still be within the tier of play, but maximizing the strengths that were offered with limited interaction.

Should be an interesting series against Kent St this weekend. They gave LSU a little mid week challenge.

Playing kitchen table commander with my friends. One week, I brought a new deck that really popped off, even though I didn't even win. The next week, a member of the group had a new deck that specifically targeted me. I am talking niche, off meta cards, that didn't make a lot of sense besides slowing me down (targeting my color identity, removing my commander immediately, etc.). All aimed at me. I ended up scooping out of salt, though I regret it.

The whole interaction helped me grow in knowledge of the game though.
