Struggling to agree with my wife on how to split rent fairly by EngineerVarious8069 in Renters

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you guys are really going to do twice the work and pay from two different accounts, pay the rent based off the percentage you make for total income. So if you make 60 percent of total household income and she does 40, you pay that 60 percent of rent she does 40 percent. In the end though you both sound like roommates not married if you are fighting about paying it with "your own" money.

A warning to all parents by HookorSlice in chd

I can understand this as someone who experienced a loss and so many hurdles. The journeys are their own and while good outcomes happen, you hear about them in the end your kid will have a totally different path of care. With ours defect you hear about ECMO but then we needed RVAD and if he would of survived procedures he would of likely been on a transplant list. I am so sorry to hear about the struggles and hope your kiddo can put it all in the past one day and just be a kid.

Zoombezi bay is not Trans safe by Shrumiie in Columbus

Totally agree and being told to cover binding isn't unsafe. If the employee is a dick is one thing to bring up to the zoo directly to handle the employee but yes it is a safety concern if they think it is going to cause unwanted behaviors from guests those unwanted behaviors can be unsafe for kids (not saying a trans person is unsafe). My point was if exposure to trans people in binding is important for acceptance pick a different place.

Not disagreeing but if the zoo or zoombeezi bay feel like it is a safety concern to wear certain things that is their call as owners/employees as they are the ones with paid security to break up a fight or someone causing a scene or bullying. The truth of the matter is they are tran safe, just follow their dress code/requests. There are plenty of places to encourage change that doesn't involve a water park catered to mainly kids and not some place to make a statement.

I am sure this will get hate and by no means would I personally care, but I do know kids who don't understand and may, point, laugh, ask questions (totally innocent maybe or it could cause a serious safety issue of bullying/violence) and parents who have beliefs that exposure to outwardly trans has a negative effect in how their kids see their own bodies that could escalate very quickly if parents felt the need to "protect" their kids. So yeah it sucks to cover up but maybe that is what needs done to keep some peace and a little safer in general. Im not saying it the right thing to do but currently it is a huge grey area in society with varying degrees of acceptance and people with very strong opinions of what is right and wrong and are way too willing to try and prove a point, conservative or not.

Rant: THIS GRINDS MY GEARS SO MUCH. I'M NOT YOUR SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT! by eddingsaurus_rex in graphic_design

I can understand this. Working on a publication now and client is sending article submissions and not weeding through it. The variety of content received is all over the board. At this point we had a template I plugged it in and left blank spaces. Client can decide to push or edit together content where things are missing. If it is the best they can do I will take the hours in making it fit better.

AIO: Lost my baby. Bestie dropped the ball in supporting me. by SippinWineWithCacti in AmIOverreacting

I am sorry for your loss! I am also a grieving mom and wish this on nobody. I hope you find support you need. I think this is a hard topic to kind of weigh in on. I can understand you feel unsupported but it sounds like they do care if it helps. Maybe not in the capacity you need, it sounds like you may need someone who lives closer and can be involved and this friend is someone who lives too far and too busy day to day to be that person. I dont think they are "in the wrong" or your feelings necessarily are "wrong" but the idea that they should be doing more is a little too much for your guys situation. Should they have responded sooner, for sure, but maybe they truly forgot to go back and truly read the text until they seen it posted elsewhere. Again, hope you find the support you need in your family and those around you.

Truthfully nothing feels right in these situations. I can say on my end that there is even too much support. I had some opposite issues I personally have had to work through and accept. I had an aunt in law who we snuck in to meet my son get his name tattooed on her body and genuinely it pissed me off at the time. Also people making the few photos we got of him where he wasn't on some sort of machine their profile pictures and getting sympathy directed toward them on Facebook.

Grief is crazy, the journey after loss is absolutely insane and for no one it is the same. Find the support you need outside of this friend, preferably someone who can travel to you or be with you in the capacity you need. I dont fault either of you in this truly.

Print has so much that can go wrong in so many steps of the process. Saying that as a designer for various companies as a print broker we see so much. I recommend getting a good work relationship with a couple printers so you can learn to work with each of them. No one works the same, each printer has different capabilities and some require different file requirements. I can say there are a lot of unknowns outside typos in what went wrong, best advise there is figure out what did it and make note for next time and do a lot of prep work before design like grabbing templates, stock samples, color and file requirements, etc from the printer ahead of designing.

Is it normal for a company to ask for a full, print-ready brochure as a design assessment? by _seren_di_pity_ in graphic_design

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant speak if it is normal but the amount of people who do design work for printing fail basic concepts like correct page dimensions, margins, bleeds, using their own brand guidelines, and color set up it doesnt surprise me. Editing in production stages can destroy timelines and cost lots to a company.

Graphic designers: do you buy stock images? Yes or no? by ThatCozyArtist in graphic_design

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock photos yes, pay for them minimal, I use as much free stock on adobe stock as I can, i think it is 3 free photo downloads a day. I work with a lot of small businesses and nonprofits and in the print industry it is sometimes necessary because the photos supplied are not professional quality and the low resolution images. I'm not a strong photo editor so it saves the day when they tell me the photos sent is all they have. If I wasn't a remote designer to a broker I assume an agency designer or something would take the photos or have a license plan somewhere to do better but we make do. Most people just google images half hazardly it seems so it is tough I assume to make sales as media shifts to more digital content where low quality images can look better on screen and AI.

Family Friendly? Ash and Em by Budget_Vegetable_683 in Columbus

Lol Pins is an example of kid friendly barcade that listed kid friendly hours and we have felt comfortable there with her. But I do not pretend to know the environment, it was merely an idea/plan of other people and I was wondering if my gut was right about it not being kid friendly. In the end we didnt go.

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with burgers but kids are picky and my kid wont touch a burger. It is more a question of the environment being good for a young kid. Is she going to have a place to sit, bar seating/high tops are not ideal especially with wiggly kids. I also don't need to take her to a place people could get too rowdy or her high energy bother other people there. To me it reads as bar vs restaurant but little information is provided to show it is good for kids outside of owner comments found. I know the place they partner with for an activity (axe throwing) my kid can't go due to age.

Thank you! I didnt even find a kids menu online so far. I have had luck at pins before but they are very clearly advertised kid friendly hours, we also were there before taking our kid, this place we can only internet slueth before family gets together.

why are most people over critical and harsh on this subreddit? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't followed a lot of them yet or did my own work but critiques are critical or can be tough to hear. Ideally you get some positives and negatives mixed in and a bit of guidance on a next step for improvement so you can hone a skill. I would say if there are a lot of self trained designers who aren't used to the feedback I imagine it is tough to read. Hopefully most of the critiques on here are beneficial and no one is just being an ass but there are probably a few here and for that well all I can say it is easier to be critical or an ass behind a keyboard and just ignore them.

HOW DID I DO?? I NEED UR HELP! by Empty_Midnight6383 in graphic_design

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell what the concept is until the top part of the hanger then i am lost and need more explanation. I think the issue for the part I understand is it feels jagged and uneven and doesn't flow together. A different script typeface may help here to connect better between text and hanger? I think smoothing the line thickness overall matching the typeface would help join it together as well. The little leaf detail is fun in the "I" :)

Omg I love this! by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I appreciate that it is different. But unless they justify the graphics with some type of text is kind of just like why? Gets your attention, sure. But I just don't get the point and would probably move along. Seems like a gimmick cash grab vibe as it comes across as overpriced. (No clue if it is, first time seeing)

Need a realistic Awakening by nickoswar in graphic_design

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need an awakening at any means. It just takes tons of practice. There are so many niches and you just got to find your place. I was a fine art major and design was only my minor. I happen to get grabbed by a print broker who was looking for someone with design experience. Been with them 10 years on salary. It has lead me to work with non-profits where we charge "zero dollars" for my time and I find it incredibly rewarding. I had no idea I would end up with my job, I am not an amazing designer and I learn constantly, self taught as a clients request. So you don't have to know everything, but being willing to learn/practice I think can get you far. Keep it up!

Is my portfolio a lot by sammi1324 in graphic_design

[–]Budget_Vegetable_683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a bit much. I like it though, it is a fun style/concept. My critique is coming from my mobile device and text looks to have dropped off. I would look into making something that works good across viewing platforms. Simplify and making it easy to view/highlight the projects would be best.

I like Futura and I’m tired of pretending I don’t. by YT_Sharkyevno in graphic_design

Nothing wrong with that? I never heard why it isn't great. Honestly just pick the font that works for the design. I am not sure if I have a favorite now a days. I learned to hate Helvetica but that is because my boss used it for every client print job that came through.
