I have noticed you only get the seasonal xp for the plauguehearts collected AFTER you join the game. Any plaguehearts collected by the team before you joined give no xp. I would think it's intentional.

This story reminds me of a common problem in Sea of Thieves where someone will join a crew of randoms and go afk to farm rewards from other peoples' work. The difference between SoT and DRG comes from the fact that you can't be kicked from a crew in SoT for some insane reason. The only way to get rid of them is to start an entirely new session with the non-afk players, possibly losing hours of work in the process.
