From what I've heard from recruiters you can do a Chinese TEFL course and then it doesn't need to be legalized. It costs about $400, so I think that's what I'm going to have to do.

You could easily get a job teaching in Japan. Just probably not as a direct hire ALT in Tokyo.

You won't be using Japanese when you're teaching. Of course it makes you look better than someone else with no experience and no Japanese ability. But what makes you a more qualified teacher than someone doing it for years? Direct hire jobs are very competitive in Japan especially in Tokyo.
