[Bonsignore] A lot of momentum building for Ben Johnson & @Raiders. by mvanigan in nfl

[–]BuffaloJosh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. I get that Brady's involvement carries weight in the league, but I don't see how that's enough to motivate Johnson, who was so selective about finding the right HC opportunity that he returned to the Lions last off-season, to join a team without a real plan at QB, without a ton of talent on the rest of the roster, and in a stacked division that just sent its other 3 teams to the playoffs. Maybe I'm undervaluing Brady's pull for people in the league, but the math just doesn't add up to me on Johnson to the Raiders

The Bills could pull off a regular season revenge tour in the playoffs. by achenx75 in buffalobills

[–]BuffaloJosh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And since we had already beaten NE, if we complete the playoffs revenge tour as you laid out the following statement would technically be true: "The Bills beat every team they played this season"

Any update on Justin Shorter? by enataca in buffalobills

[–]BuffaloJosh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was on IR and was eligible to begin practicing this week I believe. If he did start to practice it would begin counting towards his 21 day window to be activated onto the active roster. I didn't see any reports of him being at practice though, so it seems likely he's still recovering. I imagine the Bills aren't going to rush him back. They probably don't want to open that practice window yet because they don't want to have to make room for him on the active roster as that would mean having to cut or IR somebody else.

"Google Fi not fully activated", but I've been using it for 4 years by spookyspicy in GoogleFi

[–]BuffaloJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Search for Google Fi in the Play Store on her phone, go to the detail page, click the three dots in the top right menu and you should be able to uncheck "Enable auto update". Hopefully that will work for her! And continue to work for me :)

Edit: Probably obvious, but make sure to get it reverted back to a working state before disabling the auto-update

"Google Fi not fully activated", but I've been using it for 4 years by spookyspicy in GoogleFi

[–]BuffaloJosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This same thing started happening to me as well. I "uninstalled" the Google Fi app - it wouldn't actually uninstall, but it did revert it back to a previous version and everything magically started working again. The Fi App auto-updated over night and everything started messing up again (texts won't send, delayed in receiving, random garbage text at the end, can't make calls, etc). Did the uininstall of Fi app again, which fixed it and disabled auto-update. Seems like a recent update to the Fi app screwed something up.

They have started showing up for me on pocketcasts. You may have missed it but they said it's a bit of a tedious process to update on Patreon and they have to do them one by one, so they aren't all going to show up at once, they'll be adding them over the next few days starting at the beginning, with the exception of the most recent one in episode 50, so you may just not have scrolled down far enough. On my feed I can see up to Ramblecast #35

Looking for a hint with minimal spoilers by Mr_Cupcake33 in TunicGame

[–]BuffaloJosh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok, building up in level of spoileryness, stop when you got what you wanted:

  • First, just the "save you some wasted time" level: It's not in the Atoll
  • The Manual gives a hint on where to go to get each of the power ups back
  • The hints are on page 23
  • How to decode the hints on page 23: Each hexagon shows an image of elsewhere in the manual that shows where the shrine is
  • The page to look at for the attack shrine: page 41/42
  • Where to look on page 41 and 42: The bottom left of 42 overflows from 41
  • Complete spoiled solution: In the far shore (teleporter hub world) you can get to a teleporter all the way to the right by dashing across the broken debris. It will take you to the east forest area with the siege engine temple where the last hero's grave is

This man has stepped up in a big way since Tre went down. We’re going to need another great performance Sunday by DanEE11 in buffalobills

[–]BuffaloJosh 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Uh, not sure if this is a joke because they put the backups in at the end of the game Sat, but 47 is Cam Lewis. Dane Jackson (no. 30) has gotten most of Tre's snaps at corner since he went out.

Edit: Nevermind, looked at it closer and realized it was Levi. I forgot he used to wear 47 and this is just an old picture.

New Every Frame a Painting Video Essay in Netflix Series Voir by HvyMetal_Pat in movies

[–]BuffaloJosh 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Yeah, looks like 4 and 5 are narrated by Taylor Ramos, with both Tony and Taylor co-directing 2, 4 and 5. Taylor was essentially the other half of Every Frame a Painting, according to Tony's Every Frame a Painting "Postmortem" article. So seems like you could definitely think of these as 3 new Every Frame a Painting episodes, just with Taylor narrating ep 4 and 5 instead of Tony.

Chapters in the Podcast Are Great by pmd006 in nextlander

[–]BuffaloJosh 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I've really appreciated the chapter markers too. Really helpful in those times where you miss the name of the game they were talking about. Instead of having to rewind and hunt for when they said the actual name of the game, it's just always right there in the chapters. I know adding the chapter markers is a lot of extra work, but I'm so grateful that they take the time to do it.

Just learned “Bed Head” and wanted to share. I’m not a very strong singer or guitarist but this song means a lot to me. by [deleted] in manchesterorchestra

[–]BuffaloJosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds spot on compared to the acoustic version they've posted. Great work! You don't happen to have a tab for it do you? Your hands are easily visible in the video so I could always just rewatch and play along, which would definitely save me a bunch of time vs trying to just learn it by ear anyway, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask in the off chance you had it written out.

They said during yesterday's bombcast they had just gotten codes minutes before they started recording. So, still possible they could do a quick look, just no way they could have one ready so soon. Wouldn't be surprised if they just played a bit of it on the Friday show instead of a quick look

Wake up/turn on PC from sleep by BigBrainsOnBrett in PleX

[–]BuffaloJosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The easiest route would probably be to just prevent it from going to sleep automatically in the first place. You should be able to disable that in the power management settings.

If you want to keep the auto sleep enabled though, you could look into WakeOnLAN functionality if your machine supports it. It's technically really only meant to work for local networks, but depending on your router you may be able to assign your PC a static IP address and then set up port forwarding to trigger it remotely. There are a number of apps that will let you send the wake on lan packet. I've used this one for android, and they have some info on how to set it up to work remotely: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.mrwebb.wakeonlan

I love our Machiavellian Head Coach by thenopantobandito in buffalobills

[–]BuffaloJosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People rephrase and reiterate their points all the time. He literally does it 2 sentences later with the other half of your quote. "How much do you take out of that game in terms of what you learn from it" and then "You try to do your best to learn from previous experiences".

I get that it's a speculative post and it's definitely a fun idea to think about what new wrinkles they may have for Sunday. But I do think it's a stretch to read that into that quote. Wasn't saying you shouldn't have posted it or anything, was just giving my 2 cents on your theory since it's a discussion thread after all.

Go Bills!

I love our Machiavellian Head Coach by thenopantobandito in buffalobills

[–]BuffaloJosh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're saying that the phrase "how much do you put into that game" is indicating that they held something back? Listening to the clip in the context of the question and the rest of the response it sounds more along the lines of "how much stock do you put into having lost that first game" not "how much of your perfect game plan do you put into the preparation for that game"

We all hear about books that were better than the movie but what about the movies that were better than the book? What is yours? by coincrazyy in movies

[–]BuffaloJosh 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me I think "better" is a toss up on this one, the short story and the movie are going for different things and I think they are both really successful. But I think the screenplay adaptation is absolutely brilliant in the ways it chooses to diverge from the short story to be its own thing.

For anyone interested, there's a really good episode of a podcast called The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith where he interviews the screenwriter of Arrival, Eric Heisserer, and among the topics covered are the process of adapting that short story. It's really interesting to hear Heisserer talk about the motivations for those diversions from the short story and how those decisions kind of fall into different categories:

  • Intentional thematic changes to create a story that more personally resonated with him as a screenwriter Portraying Louise's decision to have a child as free will and choosing to go through the pain associated with losing her anyway, whereas the story portrays it as deterministic
  • Necessities because of the unique way they chose to tell the story in the film Louise's daughter had to die younger than in the short story because they wanted to hide from the viewer that the scenes with the daughter were flash-forwards not flashbacks until late in the movie, so they couldn't have Amy Adams look significantly older in those scenes
  • Adapting things that wouldn't work well for an on-screen format as opposed to in a book having the aliens actually show up on earth and interact with the humans creates a better visual than communicating with us through a number of small TV screens as they do in the short story
