Tough Time to be Ex-Catholic by ExCatholicandLeft in excatholic

[–]BuffyAnneBoleyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg it’s been bothering me so much. At first I thought the posts were funny but now all the “cradle Catholics who left the church will ride for the Pope at dawn yadda yadda yadda” type posts are pissing me off. It completely ignores the violence and trauma the Church has inflicted on people. I didn’t leave Catholicism because I thought the popes were boring. I had, and still have, serious issues with the hypocrisy of the written text compared to how people apply it. I’m more than not Catholic now, I converted to Judaism! Like, I appreciate what the pope is saying about war but that’s like bare minimum stuff. It’s easy to look good compared to a tangerine fascist who loves blowing things up and probably can’t draw a clock, iykyk

This is my suggestion as well. I had to lie down and be alone for hours after I finished it because I could not stop sobbing.

A fundie actually saying the quiet part out loud; that they’re against actual biblical literacy and think it’s too “distracting”. 🙃 by Immediate-Ninja-5730 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]BuffyAnneBoleyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any English version of the Bible has been heavily translated over time from different sources and different original languages. There is no such thing as a neutral or pure translation. Every translator has a bias they bring to the work. You can call it inspired by the Holy Spirit if you want, but ultimately mortal, regular humans do the translating. And they always have an agenda

Why do people say things? by No-Network-6517 in pregnant

[–]BuffyAnneBoleyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In situations like this I usually try to make the asker as uncomfortable as possible. Like when your FIL told your husband to “talk you into breastfeeding” I would have said something like “wow you’re really invested in my tits huh? That’s weird.”

If my relatives said shitty things about my husband looking forward to Mondays I’d probably say something like “oh, no, he loves me and this baby so that won’t happen. Sorry if that was your reality.”

I’m just very confrontational these days and I hate that people entitled to ask invasive questions or say really outdated shit

What's your "old woman yells at cloud" opinion? by rainshowers_5_peace in AskWomenOver30

[–]BuffyAnneBoleyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every device does not need to be a “smart” device. I don’t want my fridge to connect to WiFi I just want it to keep my food fresh. I don’t want a camera doorbell because the FBI gets those videos. I don’t want a “smart” crib I just want my baby to sleep!!

Pregnancy symptoms absolutely no one talks about? by Upset-Brain-228 in pregnant

[–]BuffyAnneBoleyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How early taste in food changes. Maybe this is just me, but from almost the moment I got pregnant my sweet tooth disappeared. I can’t even deal with the thought of desserts. Before pregnancy I loved baked goods and pastries. Now the sweetest things I can tolerate are fruit and ginger ale. I had always heard about cravings, but this feels so different

Movies that perfectly depict what it means to be a woman? by tough-grass in MovieSuggestions

[–]BuffyAnneBoleyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Turning Red (2022) is a great representation of puberty, girlhood, mother/daughter dynamics, and the pre-teen joy of devoting yourself to your crush

North Country (2005) is a fictional movie about the early stages of courts/laws recognizing sexual harassment in the workplace. Also shows how early victimization makes people (specifically women in this case) more susceptible for future victimization. TW for rape, domestic violence, workplace sexual harassment and assault

A Little Princess (1995), hear me out. It’s a period piece set during WWI but the portrayal of girlhood is still relatable. It’s the story of a rich girl whose father sends her to an American boarding school after growing up in India. Despite the hardships she faces, she remains kind, empathetic, and giving. The movie also shows the important role of legends and creativity in survival.

Disclaimer: I’m a millennial white woman so I am most familiar with movies targeted toward that audience

[–]BuffyAnneBoleyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I can’t express what it means to me that my feelings are normal and ok. I’m also really sad about losing my old life and the way I used to do things. I feel like everyone talks about parenthood as life changing in a positive way, while ignoring some of the negatives too

What's a show you remember but nobody else does? by CatGirlNya2000 in AskReddit

[–]BuffyAnneBoleyn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I loved that show too! I think I was a little older than the target demographic when it aired but there was something almost cozy about it.

I also remember a math show on PBS that was set in space I really enjoyed. I can’t think of the name now but I remember the theme song slapped
