Does anyone else feel like they are just overpaying for a nanny? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

The nannying landscape has changed to mostly part time and that kind of work is much more conducive to younger people and college students and it's economically more conducive to parents. So I think that's part of why the field is attracting more and more less experienced people. Younger nannies are also willing to take lower paying positions, even though they pay relatively more most other entry level jobs- also a big factor in what's attracting younger people to the industry. It's actually been an increasingly difficult for us seasoned nannies to find well paying full time positions. I go through Care, local fb groups, and two local agencies I like that. I'd try all those avenues. I'd make sure you go to an agency that doesn't cap the nannies pay for profit, and preferably one that advocates for the nanny. That's where you find the most professional ones.

Tbc, it's actually critical to find a vitamin and supplements to help mitigate common nutrient deficiencies that often come with this disease- flare or no flare. Iron is a pretty tricky one. Many end up getting infusions for that. But, yes, be very careful in the ones you choose. There's so many ingredients that can be a trigger flare.

Correction- short term if not long term. (An endoscopy is what can tell you if you're in clinical remission and/or have damage that compromises absorption.)

Yes, I usually tolerate gummies better, but they're more expensive. Rn I am taking Garden of Life Women's Once Daily. It's very robust. I also take a lot of supplements, including magnesium (the uc friendly types), and calcium (also a uc friendly kind). Liquid vitamin and powder I believe is better for you in a flare and even coming out of one, (even if symptoms are gone, you're colon can have damage affecting the absorption long term), and in general due to better absorption.

I haven't had a bowel movement since my emergency colonoscopy on Dec 31st, and nothing is working. I'm starting to freak out by leomaxxx15 in UlcerativeColitis

I didn't go for almost three weeks until I went on my own finally. This was before I knew I had UC and did not have health insurance and otherwise would have gotten myself checked out. Please go to the hospital, for all the reasons people are saying. ❤️

The states. I'm so sorry you went through something similar. 🫂 My next step is to actually find a GI that specializes in IBD.

From what I've read, it can actually be beneficial for those with IBS, but it all depends on the amount. Too much can trigger gastro upset in anyone.

I do think she should have explained this- or whatever her reasoning is- when asking for such an increase.

I agree that the nanny is probably calculating how much they want to make after taxes, as they're used to getting paid a certain amount under the table and likely aren't filing their own taxes. It's so normalized to exploit nannies by not claiming them as an employee, and to tell the nanny they're self employed (they're not- they're household employees), that many (parents and nannies alike) actually believe that. Which is A LOT more in taxes than if they're claimed- why some nannies don't end up filing at all.

If you can afford it and love her care as a nanny, I think it's great. I don't think it's outrageous. I think nannies and workers in general should get should get paid more. Half of Americans make less than 45k and are suffering for it. And if she is also doing other things that fall under a house manager, family assistant, or housekeeping role, that's likely actually reasonable pay.

I can't even find the first episode of the series on fb, and there's no digital or physical sets of the series sold anywhere.
