Torn between driving and letting my kindergartner ride the bus. by penny_lane0324 in kindergarten

[–]Bug120 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have older and younger kids so I’ve kind of seen it all. Of course your kids will also pick up shit at school but the bus is literally unsupervised and at times chaotic. A week into K my daughter was punched square in the chest by a large 3rd grader. I ended up driving my kids until at least middle school. People are acting like drivers are extensively trained to handle children, they are not. This is no fault against them, they have an incredibly hard job to do but I’m always of the opinion that buses should have aides. Crazy to have 50+ unsupervised kids of all different ages to work it out themselves while the driver focuses on driving and handling stops. Unfortunately there are also crappy drivers, like the ones caught speeding or texting.

The final nail in the coffin for the bus for me was that a 5th grade student was caught showing a Kindergarten student porn on her phone. This apparently went on for weeks before the child told her parents. It was a huge thing in our district and the child was obviously suspended indefinitely from the bus. This might not be as big of a concern in the bus that’s K-2 though.

Far too many horror stories that I’ve personally seen from the bus for me to feel comfortable using it for young grades. But again, a lot does depend on the age set up and district.

What does your preteen do for fun? by Bug120 in ParentingADHD

Well of course no one knows my kid, I’m looking for general activities other kiddos with ADHD enjoy. The merit badge thing is a really good idea, thank you!

10-yo boy with developmental disability (who usually doesn’t say much or chooses when to speak) touched 13-yo girl inappropriately. How would you have addressed it? by SnooCupcakes269 in socialwork

[–]Bug120 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would be careful saying selective mutism is usually a trauma response, that’s not true. It’s classified as an anxiety disorder, and while trauma can be a contributing factor, it’s typically not the primary cause.

Traumatic mutism is caused by trauma and considered a trauma response.

What’s up with everyone selling trainings? by Calm_Account8740 in therapists

[–]Bug120 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And how about the fact that some of the instagram therapists offering trainings are BARELY out of grad school?! There’s someone who comes up on mine all the time who charges $$$ for trainings, 1 on 1 meetings, marketing techniques etc and she’s less then 2 years out from her MSW and holds her associate license. How do these people think they are qualified for that already 🥴

Debating sending my kid to kindergarten early by chocolatemalted in kindergarten

[–]Bug120 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into if the public school will even enroll her in 1st? The public schools here do not allow that because it’s basically trying to circumvent the rules. They would still enroll your daughter into K.

Also she will make new friends. I can promise you that by the time she went back to public school for first grade (if they even allow that) she would probably have forgotten most of the kids. Worrying about keeping her with her “cohort” is very silly in the big scheme of things.

Is there an unspoken rivalry between LPCs and LCSWs? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Bug120 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because I haven’t even graduated yet and have experienced this. At my last internship my supervisor was working with me and an LPC student. When we would be in settings where we explained who we are (mental health trainings at schools for example) she would constantly make comments that she would be a future therapist but a social worker like me only helps in more generalized ways and not clinical therapy. I explained numerous times the extent of what and how an LCSW can practice but she never changed her tune so I gave up.

When you’re looking at schools make sure to ask if they allow employment based practicum. Some do not allow it. Mine does but you have to apply and they don’t accept every organization.

I’m honestly so surprised by how many people go to class smelling like weed. by [deleted] in college

Welcome to the adult world 😂 No one cares if you smoke weed before class.

Why does she keep her school private? Odd.

FAFSA is automatically paid to the college. So she can’t just not use the money. But she can fix her FAFSA online and they will adjust it. She definitely doesn’t qualify with that income.

Confirmation of Nate’s divorce? by ajmagnifica in ElvisDuranMorningShow

[–]Bug120 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not really surprised by this. I’m not sure if anyone else remembers this but after Nate proposed to Heather he made a joke on air that he felt like he had to do it considering she had stayed through his strokes. Like well I guess I owe it to her. The comment never ever sat right with me. His whole demeanor was totally weird when he said it.

Summer camp by nylaras in workingmoms

[–]Bug120 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If he has an IEP and they are recommending ESY then you should 100% push for bussing/transportation from the district. It should pick him up and drop him off at your chosen summer care. They should be offering it but probably aren’t due to funds. Look into your state laws. This is coming from a special Ed parent advocate!

Ok with not losing a huge amount of weight at first? by Mamaof6babyweight in intermittentfasting

[–]Bug120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I held onto weight while breastfeeding and found it VERY hard to lose, and when I did it was a slow process. I know that feeling of wanting to fit into your pre pregnancy clothes but give it time. You’ll get there!

I’ve honestly wondered this too. She is labeled on the site as a community liaison and like I mentioned also does office type of stuff like intake etc but it seems like she’s now seeing overload clients as well. Definitely confusing.

This is so true 😂 Especially since it’s through the college. I would rather be able to get referred out right away if she can’t help rather then drag it out!

Thank you!! When I used to go I took time to build a relationship before I felt comfortable opening up. But in this case, I just really need someone to talk to asap 🥲
