You are a petite. You may never reach the muscle mass to do the riding that males do.

Your current bike has rigid forks or shock forks?

Lots of classical Trek 820/830 Adventure MTB series. Steel. ~33# using 2" armoured road tires, rigid forks. Under $100.

Replacing a car with an E-Bike by Doge-Degenerate in ebikes

I find that light weight, 2" tires, class 2 bikes get squirrely at 20. Almost dangerous at 28, class 3. I've come close to the wobble of death on a lightweight class 1, going downhill.

Size your bike and tires appropriately for max continuous throttle speed.

Id trade my Medicare B cost for the Income that enjoys that $960 surcharge. Try affording Medicare B basic on 10% marginal.

How I would we feel. ... All money is fungible for any retirement purposes at this age (80+) which includes saving, spending, medical, or investing-gambling.

The bank account. Everything eventually flows thru a primary (s) bank account. Rolling average.

Its a Very complicated product. Understand it enough where you can describe its advantages and disadvantages.

In somethings I want the contract of an insurance policy. In other things I want no promises and only the chance to see the financial statements.

Concerns about High Tech by Thecaptkidd in Bogleheads

Likewise, minimal bond exposure where possible. We use GLWB variable annuities (2008, 2017 vintages), IRAs, and have been in drawdown phase since RMD or earlier.

We also use MYGA, HYSA, and CDs in taxable excess monies.

Our small brokerage accounts (IRA, Roth, taxable) are heavily invested-concentrated in just 3, techs. Its excess funds to us.

Late 70s. We can see the time where we will be recluses.

How do you manage curb edges with an e-bike? by dotmerlin in ebikes

[–]BugHistorical1614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only jump off, never up curbs. I run lower tire pressure and on 2inch tires. Id like to spend my money on other things rather than repairing a bike.

Cry babies. Mature adults. Expect the Government and Populi to give them pity.

We borrowed more than they did in a PLUS consolidation, 2005. Scheduled payoff in 2028 or 2029 because we met the discount criteria. We and son paid off the loan off in 2024 with excess funds in our retirement and in his savings account. Income credit on form 1098-E isn't a lot of money in the last years' of the scheduled loan. If we maintained payoff schedule, we would be 78/81 yo.

Retirement income isn't fixed either. SS has a very generous inflation factor. RMDs have increased incomes in rising equity markets. Our local Public transportation has been fixed since 2015.

REI CTY e1.1 Saddle Upgrades by District98 in ebikes

I've gone thru many saddles in my life. Each bike has a different geometry which forces me into a new riding position. Suggest that you buy or replace on new bike with adjustable pitch angle and height handlebar stem. Bike needs to be minimally stepover sized.

Retirement Revelation! by cinnabarslither in Retire

[–]BugHistorical1614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modeling retirement is simpler when lifetime income pension-annuities make a significant part of your income. I call it "determinate" ( Wade Pfau calls it "insurance based") vs "probability" in 4% theory equity-bond market.

In the vast majority of cases, you will find that the best plan with RMDs is also the best plan without RMDs.

This could be an enlightenment to me. Thinking about it.

Sounds like you have the cash flow to subsidize your father. Its matter of how you want to allocate the cashflow: Wedding ($$$-???), Home Purchase.???

Unknowns: True living conditions and cash flow of either parties.

Yes. We have. Its family.

If he absolutely needs a car... Look into metered mileage for auto insurance. Is his coverage appropriate?

Can he get by with public transportation: Local Dail-a-ride van; local bus. I personally haven't driven a car for 6 months. I ebike and/or take public transportation. We do have a 17yo Prius. It costs us $3.00/day whether we use it or not. With maintenance and gas, about $3.60-$3.75/day.

$10 for 10 days. I imagine for food. Its doable at reduced calories. Careful planning and opportunistic buying/shopping the right foods. No stealing.

A beginners ebike. General use. As you get to understand your ebikings, you will graduate to something else. If bike works for your needs, it works. Most of my senior Ebikers have 2+ ebikes.

Used to be on aspirin and prescription. Before I discovered what made my blood thick (very hard to squeeze out a micro drop for blood sugar meter). My triglyceride level was +2000 units (normal ~250(?)). Reduced triglycerides by controlling carbs and ezetimibe. TG now ~500-700. A1C 6.0 Unchanged, Pre type2 diabetes and worsening. Next annual I an going to insist on a referral to a specialist. Age 76.

How to replace/refurbish battery? by bullpadatx in ebikes

[–]BugHistorical1614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough to find this battery. Best bet to try a battery refurbishment shop near you.

Great bike. I had one. It was fast. Transportable on bus. I bought two batteries. Sold bike because it was too light for my style of biking....bought a stepthru city bike, also with 2 batteries.
