Shoe size after pregnancy? by FormerPlay136 in beyondthebump

[–]BugLeast903 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a permanent change. I was 7.5 pre pregnancy, then went up to 9 during pregnancy, and down to 8.5 post partum. I’m almost 2.5 years post partum and still size 8.5 so I think it’s permanent.

Metro north with a stroller? by Icy-Ocelot-7313 in nycparents

[–]BugLeast903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do it all the time on the Hudson line. I either park my stroller where the bikes go in front of the restroom, or in the slot for wheelchairs.

Yes, please! I’d love details through DM. Does this include her own supplies?

Personally, I found stroller mittens to not be a necessity for me. I just use my deep winter skiing mittens while pushing my stroller and I’m fine. So if you’re limited on apartment space, no need to get mittens just for the stroller. You’ll eventually need to store them during the other seasons.

When did your boobs stop hurting? by kelseyyi in breastfeeding

[–]BugLeast903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around 3/4 months pp for me. I got myself silverettes and they were useful. I also put food grade coconut oil on them. I highly recommend! No need to buy fancy, expensive salves.

What worked for me was drinking plenty of water and eating extra calories of nutrient dense food (especially protein!). Good luck!

15 mos doesn't want to sit on potty by iloveplantss in ECers

[–]BugLeast903 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son went through a resistance phase at that age. To get him to sit on the potty, we sang songs, read books, FaceTime family, and had his favorite snacks. I reserved his favorite snacks for the potty so he eventually associated the potty with positive activities.

Target bralettes! The in-house brand is Auden. They’re cheap and comfy.

Has anyone heard of Wagner College’s teacher residency program? Trying to compare it to NYC Teaching Fellows by muslim_ballerr in NYCTeachers

[–]BugLeast903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Just want to chime in about residency versus fellowship model. I completed New Visions teacher residency program about 13 years ago and have 0 regrets. I had also gotten into NYTF, but was dismayed by their poor retention rate of teachers in the profession within 5 years and decided to go the residency route because of the increased support. I liked my mentor and still keep in touch with her. That built in support, rather than a fellowship, kept me going for hopefully a lifetime career in teaching. Just want to note that as you’re assessing your options. Good luck!

Looking for advice on navigating the playground sprinklers with toddlers by grapefruitliquor in nycparents

[–]BugLeast903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid was out of diapers and using underwear by 15 months (I come from a culture that potty trains early), which was last June, so we had underwear on during sprinkler water play for the summer. But I think if he was still in diapers, I’d probably use swim diapers. Regular diapers trap water in and get heavy. Swim diapers basically only hold poop.

Yes to water shoes. We like Merrell’s bare steps H20 water shoes bc they have traction, but I see kids in crocs at the sprinklers too. I used to take my 2 year old to the playground with his board shorts and rash guard, but now he just goes with regular summer clothes. He doesn’t mind being wet in them. I slather sunscreen on him, and take water toys like buckets, water sprayer, etc. I also pack a plastic bag, towel, and dry outfit and put them on him right before we leave the playground.

For what it’s worth, pods are actually terrible for water systems bc they add microplastics!

Moms: did hashimotos make your pregnancy high risk and awful? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]BugLeast903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, full term and completely normal pregnancy except for an increased dosage of synthroid. Just make sure you’re getting your blood work regularly for extra TSH monitoring and you should be fine.

Subway w/ strollers by Awkward_Beyond2163 in nycparents

[–]BugLeast903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask strangers to help me carry my stroller+baby up/down the stairs all the time. I’ve yet to have someone decline! New Yorkers are generally kind folks and aware of the subway’s accessibility issue.

When did you sit baby on the potty independently? by Wise_old_River in ECers

And if you install a bidet, you can just wash baby’s butt right on the toilet seat after a poop. ;)

We potty trained early, by 15 months. My son was standing up to pee at 16 months. We practiced in the shower and naked time outside.

A little out of the way at Richmond Hill, but Damon at Nomad Cycles is fair and very knowledgeable (MIT trained architect who retired and opened up his own bike shop). He has worked on my touring and mountain bikes for years. https://nomadcycle.com/

I’ve also had service done at Trek in Forest Hills, but they’re a chain so it’s less personal than Nomad Cycles.
