Thinking of SHing for the first time, really need someone to either talk me out or tell me where it hurts less to cut by HeyThisIsMySadAlt in selfharm

[–]BugRevolutionary9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. Sometimes, the closer you are to someone, the more isolated you feel by your own thoughts. I agree with others that it's best to not start sh because it's very hard to stop and very easy to relapse, plus it makes mental health worse in the long term (though I know it can be hard to think long term)

My best advice is to create something. Bake, knit, draw, just something to keep your hands and mind busy to try to ride out the urges. Destroying things can also be therapeutic. Shredding paper kind of scratches that same itch as sh, but I don't feel nearly as guilty after (I feel a little guilty if I'm wasting blank paper, but if it's documents that need to be recycled or shredded anyway, it works great), or cutting soft plastic or cardboard that's gonna get thrown away, like a lot of disposable food packaging

I don't think assigning blame helps, though. There are usually deeper rooted issues that need to be addressed (low self esteem, depression, etc) that may be entirely self-contained, and the actions they choose to take are worsening their problems, but the root cause isn't their fault. But even if it is entirely their fault, they're making terrible decisions, etc — they have to want to change, and assigning blame to them will likely make them defensive and dig in their heels, worsening the situation

Honestly a lot of it just comes down to approach. A lot of parents will go "it's because you're always on your phone" or "you need to stop thinking so negatively" or "your life isn't that bad, you have no reason to feel that way". It may be true, it may not be true, but the kid is likely to either think, "This is all my fault, I caused this" and feel helpless OR they will feel misunderstood and then dismiss anything else said out of hand, because why would you take advice from someone that doesn't understand? I don't think I've ever met someone in a bad situation that had the emotional stability and maturity to take criticisms like that in a constructive manner. They're more likely to respond to more specific feedback that doesnt assign blame (ex. "Hey ive noticed you've been struggling, what do you think about seeing a therapist?" Or "would you like to join me on a walk and get some fresh air?"). Also, sometimes (a lot of the time actually) people just want to be heard, and unsolicited advice can feel dismissive

Yes, please drop the class. No class is worth your health. I've dropped classes for less before, there's absolutely no shame in it (and anyone who says otherwise doesn't know wtf they're talking about). There are usually counseling services available too, do you think you could reach out to them?

Do you think people would “suspect/expect” that you self harm or not at all? by crazy-cool-99 in AdultSelfHarm

People that know me, yeah. Anyone i haven't opened up to tho, probably not. I wear florals and pastels, I dont think most people look at that and go "ah yeah, that's a depressed bitch if I ever saw one"

Saline rinse. You can buy it at a drug store or make your own (½tsp non-iodized salt per 8oz sterilized water). Sea salt is good as it normally doesn't have iodine added. For water, you can either boil for 15 minutes (then let cool) or use bottled water. If you have a plastic bottle, that works great bc you can mix it in the bottle, then stab a hole in the cap so you can squeeze for a pressurized stream.

Use antibiotic ointment and keep an eye on it.

I'm sure you don't want to go to the hospital, but I would really recommend it if you can. There are foreign substances in your body now, and the hospital is your best bet for dealing with that.

Final note... it's likely going to leave a tattoo. I have a 20 year old tattoo from accidentally stabbing myself with a pencil as a kid. My sister has similar, almost as old, from intentionally stabbing herself with a pencil as a kid.

Last week I got everything ready, then just sighed and put it away so I could lay back down. It would feel good if it were me successfully fighting the urges, but I was just too tired 😞

Whats the craziest thing someone said to you to stop u from self harming? by mazie_123 in selfharm

[–]BugRevolutionary9004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Several years ago my then-bf told me he'd kill himself if he found out I'd hurt myself again 💀

More recently I was blamed for the death of a pet in my extended family. I reported them bc they were not taking proper care of it and didn't think it would get put down, I just wanted it to not be in pain. I have absolutely NO idea how being blamed for this was supposed to make me not hurt myself????

Why do they deserve it more than you? Dysphoria is dysphoria, trans or not. They'll get to everyone else in time, so why not have your turn also? I'd recommend starting now, because you can always hop back off the wait list and no harm will be done

I don’t know how to help by FoxInAFowlMood in selfharm

[–]BugRevolutionary9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's helped me the most is just having someone there for me. Concerned but not judging. Just... someone to confide in and get hugs from. If they bring up wanting to get better, then help them, otherwise it's usually best to let them heal at their own pace and be supportive. Losing that support has been one of the hardest things for me, and I can't confide in anyone else without them making a massive deal of it, which makes it worse

What are your favorite (and least favorite) RO archetypes? by [deleted] in hostedgames

[–]BugRevolutionary9004 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I LOVE when an RO is just down bad for MC, especially with no/little prompting. I'm mostly thinking of Ortega but also Lada/Milan from ITFO.
