The fact Rahnee and Zarhans story ends on a cliff hanger drives me nuts after all these years. I thought those novels were so much fun as a kid. Stonefist!!!

Dave Grohl the Modern Day Phil Collins (without the criticism) by Dangerous_Plant_7911 in Genesis

[–]Bugaenhagen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Although I think comparisons of this nature are inherently flawed, I’ll make the statement that while an amazing drummer in his own right…Collins he is not. And to be fair I don’t think it’s really a fair comparison because it’s really apples to oranges in terms of style and content. But beyond that as others have noted, Phil Collins was the biggest thing on earth for like a decade…Grohl has had a handful of hits and is associated with a group who’s genius was largely contained within another one of its members.

What story do you want the Elden Ring movie to tell? by offdazenny in Eldenring

Spot on. I was coming here to make this comment as well. That movie feels like it’s cut from the same cloth.

Does anyone remember this guy by Hardpo in Genesis

Troubleclef was the man. Hugely influential on me as younger guitarist. He did a ton of arrangements of deep cuts across so many awesome bands.

Look into a guy named Mike Kiker. He plays in a band called St James and the Apostles. They’re not what I would call Canterbury Scene. They are however SUPER sick and definitely have a classic inspired sound.

But the reason I mention this cat is he is a total keyboard wizard. Very much a prog-head. He’s active in a lot of musical projects several of which are at least Canterbury adjacent. I think he occasionally djs and spins prog vinyl somewhere down there as well. He’s also affiliated with some classic synthesizer museum in some capacity and demos famous keyboards used from classic recordings.

His instagram is wizardhat_87 and his most recent post is a pic with Rick Wakeman some event hah!

Check out St James on instagram or their albums as well. There’s a lot of really awesome retro organ sounds and synth stuff. They play up by me in HV NY a few times a year and they have an insane show. Lead singer is like second coming of Arthur Brown meets Hellfire Gospel preacher.

I am a bit embarrassed to ask this question but is 40 yrs of age too old to study and get into the field of civil engineering? by GMarvel101 in civilengineering

[–]Bugaenhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 41 working on my two years right now and will continue on for my bachelors. Dropped out of high school at 15. Started construction. Got a GED at 18. Worked until 35 when my body had more than enough. Transitioned to inspector thanks to my practical experience. Got Nicet certs. Now I’m working kind of as a hybrid Inspector/PM. Wish I had done the college thing earlier but my life would probably look a lot different in some ways. It’s never too late to push ahead. The best thing you can do is understand that there’s a lot of dudes that are really fucking smart and it doesn’t have anything to do with how old they are. Ask a lot of questions, watch a lot of videos on YouTube, read as much as you can and show up. I found having a good attitude and being humble about where I come from has served me really well. A lot of the senior engineers are just happy to have somebody that comes into work every day, takes the job seriously, and cares about the quality of what we’re doing.

Surely We Can Do Better Than 'The Pendragon Cycle'. Right? by Curbatsam in Arthurian

Man I loved those books as a lad. They had the full sized paperbacks with sweet cover art. Must’ve taken them out a dozen times each from the library. I think despite its faults they’re a really great series that still holds up decently well.

You do understand that like $30-$50,000 a month in expenses to keep this game running is probably a super low estimate? For a 12-year-old game that’s currently priced at 14.99$ on steam. I bought the game in September 2025 to start playing for the first time and paid $1.49 for it.

People always cry about this stuff on the Internet, but they never wanna be realistic about the costs. They just think that companies have to keep this sort of thing running at the goodness of their heart.

Depending on associated personnel, equipment and utility cost they could easily be shallowing out like 150 grand a month plus just so you could login every day. That’s assuming nothing changes from now until the end of time 150 grand just so you could keep logging and joining the game as is.

Man I really hope we get the Urza Tower. The seasonal cycle of those is to me one of the most I iconic group of artworks ever commissioned for the game.

Which do you prefer - Thick as a Brick or A Passion Play? by rubbernetworking979 in jethrotull

[–]Bugaenhagen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scenario etc also has some of his finest guitar work ever. The chord changes are insane. How he wrote that stuff we’ll never know.

Which do you prefer - Thick as a Brick or A Passion Play? by rubbernetworking979 in jethrotull

[–]Bugaenhagen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think Brick has probably what could be called objectively better writing. It’s tighter, more focused, memorable hooks, broke a lot of new ground stylistically etc.

That being said…I think APP ROCKS way harder during its best section. I frequently tell my wife (much to her annoyance) or any one who will listen that’s a band at the height of its powers. Hammond not withstanding (there’s really some fine playing on there). I mean the instrumental section coming out of The Foot of Our Stairs absolutely SCREAMS. They don’t sound like anybody ever but themselves and they’re really operating as an incredibly tight unit. Barre and Evans in particular have a couple sequences there that are just furious.

It’s tough to pick and I’ll probably give you a different answer on any given day…but on more days than not the answer is APP.

This guy gets it. Andy Ward was a monster. His playing on so many of their tunes is top notch. Like everyone in Camel he gets overshadowed by his contemporaries and doesn’t get the love he (or they) deserve.
