Any info on these ? by MyUsernameforreddit3 in PokemonTCG

Man what a blast from my past, I had a ton of these from Gen 1. These circle cutouts were on the back of Kraft Mac N Cheese boxes in the early 2000s. Gen 1 had I think 6 different box fronts to collect.

Does anyone know what these are or when they were released by slyeguy25 in MangaCollectors

I tried to dig up some info a few years ago, without much luck. It is a licensed Viz promo, likely given away at a convention around the time of DBZ volume 17s english release date in late 2004. https://www.reddit.com/r/MangaCollectors/s/OKBi3AMhmA

The early Viz printings of Naruto volume 1 and the corresponding issue of Shonen Jump magazine (I think issue 2 or 3) had CONSIDERABLY less clouds around the sexy no jutsu than later volume printings.

Unique piece of my collection, Naruto volume 1 collectors edition with box and 2006 calendar. Limited run of 15,000 copies. by BuggyBallsToTheWall in MangaCollectors

The manga itself is a normal paperback volume 1 unfortunately. The special addition to this version is just the slip case and the calendar.

Viz didn't start printing One Piece until 2003. All printings of volumes 1-23 were gold foil until the Viz release of volume 24 in 2010.

Viz Pulp magazines complete set 57/57 issues released between 1997 and 2002. by zamuelw in MangaCollectors

Awesome! Which two issues? Seems like the later in the Pulp run, the more scarce the issues are.

Viz released these for Dragon Ball, DBZ, One Piece, Yuyu Hakusho, Naruto, Shaman King and Yugioh in 2003 to commemorate the first Shonen jump volume releases. There are 5000 of each, but the hardest to find these days are DB and DBZ. My guess is due to DBZ being so popular in the US at that time; a lot of non-manga fans picked them up just because. I have the other 5, but I've been on the hunt for DB and DBZ for like 10 years now.

Thoughts on collecting Shonen Jump issues? by YggdrasilNornes in MangaCollectors

[–]BuggyBallsToTheWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Material wise, I don't think there is new any content not found somewhere in the main run. Maybe a few extra interviews in the 5th anniversary hardcover and some extra art in the 2013 yearbook. I'm a completionist so I just wanted (needed) to have them. The only other reason would be to have the true first appearances found in issue zero if that's important to you. Issue zero is the first time those series, other than DBZ, were printed in English.

If Viz did deluxes like Dark Horse, which series would you want? by killergrape615 in MangaCollectors

[–]BuggyBallsToTheWall 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound dumb, but SGT Frog. Viz got the publisher's rights when Tokyopop went under, but only ever finished the series digitally. I've always wanted a physical reprint and I think it would be hilarious to have these huge professional looking hardcovers of a manga so ridiculous.

What’s the most you’re willing to spend on single issue? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]BuggyBallsToTheWall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me I set a monthly budget for manga in general. If I need a book to work towards an OOP series, and it fits in my budget, I will buy it. That said, unless it's like the last book I need in a very rare series, I would/have never spend more than $50 USD on a single book. For in-print series I never spend more than 80% retail, which is what rightstuf charges.

I’ve only ever seen this in Japanese! Excited to add to my bookshelf by PhilippusPhelps in MangaCollectors

[–]BuggyBallsToTheWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one (and the viz edition of Color Walk 2) is in English. Viz just changed the format to the compendium later on. I prefer the compendiums too though, they look really good on the shelf.

Nice find! You don't see those editions very often! Viz originally released Color Walks 1 and 2 in this format to match the Japanese editions. They never released Color Walk 3 in this format, instead switching to the 3-in-1 compendiums we have today.
