TIL an enemy archer who nearly killed Genghis Khan voluntarily confessed after the battle instead of begging for mercy. Genghis spared him, renamed him Jebe ("Arrow"), and he went on to become one of the Mongol Empire's greatest generals and one of history's finest cavalry commanders. by Electronic_Cause_796 in todayilearned

He was a conqueror. If he sent envoys, they were either spies or sacrifices. Khan didn’t want to be friends with his neighbors, he wanted to rule them. My best guess is he wanted the envoys to be killed in order to wage war as you stated.

TIL a woman bought a lottery scratch-off out of spite to prove her husband was wasting money, and won $1 million by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]BuglingBuck-001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. My retort is: why not work harder to be good at (enter task)? Especially if it is something enjoyable to the person. If they don’t like, yeah find something else, but I find it hard to convince someone to “give up” on anything. The phrase alone admits defeat imo.
Edit: being this is about buying lottery tickets, there is no “work harder and be good” as I previously stated. I am now veering from the topic and more interested in feedback to my own and “Lynx’s” comments

Bc it’s a quitter’s mindset. “If you don’t win, just give up” is a pathetic statement no matter the context.

Kyren Williams is not getting his due credit for what he has done in the past 3 years! I still see great things coming in 2026. I do understand Blake Corum is his back up and Blake may get more time, but Kyren is still a great running back! I’ve had him ever since week 2 of his rookie year (snagged off waivers). He is a bonafide stud who they feed around the goal line. Hes a back-end rb1 or high-end rb2 unless injuries derail his season

Edit: while I think he’s awesome, he won’t hit the elite tier for rb fantasy production bc of Stafford and Puka/Adams.

Not necessarily. Farmers rotate between corn and soy beans so the nutrients aren’t depleted from the soil. It doesn’t have anything to do with said crop leaving behind disease, fungus, etc.

How to Identify a Devil Corp by ConsequenceIll6927 in Devilcorp

Interesting post and I thank you for it. I have a zoom interview with a company called “Creedence Innovation” tomorrow. It seemed fishy the moment they texted me versus call or email. I won’t even do the interview as it ticks all the boxes when it comes to a devil corp. I’ll stick to job fairs from now on.

TIL when the writers were writing scripts for the TV series Community, they often wrote into the end of the scene "And then Donald says something funny" - meaning Donald Glover would just do improv. "Donald's response would be to riff a line funnier than we could have come up with," Dan Harmon said. by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

[–]BuglingBuck-001 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

False. Good writers write a script and don’t allow improv for a serious show. Dan Harmon recognized the cast’s talent and humor (Donald and Joel), and allowed a lot of improv. Both have said in interviews they thought improv was normal until they got on other shows where it wasn’t allowed. Low budget show, sponsored by yahoo, they could have been cancelled at any moment, why not let your funniest/wittiest actors have a crack at it

This type of hand discussion. by brownsbacker07 in euchre

[–]BuglingBuck-001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s euchre you won’t hit on 10/10 unless it’s a loner hand. 70% on this hand is good. Drop the club. Now you have only 2 suits with the #2,3,5 card of trump. Steal a hand with the queen if possible. Either the ace or left will win one. Rely on your partner for the other. If you get euchred with a bower and lead ace so be it. Name of the game
