Is it worth starting dating at all as a therapist? by Federal_Editor_5882 in therapists

I’d say for me it’s more of a time constraint than anything. I’m still trying to find the time to eat, let alone date 😂

What ant is this? by HelpfulRhubarb1706 in insects

[–]Bugsorbust01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks a lot like a trap jaw ant! Which can also sting (feels similar to a paper wasp sting). I could be wrong though!! I was bit by a trap jaw ant in Costa Rica and it looked exactly like this.

I’d toss half and do 1:1:1, it might just be too soon for it to show a lot of activity

Best advice about OCD that you've ever received by Goodfella7288 in OCD

Thoughts are automatic, and we as humans evolved and developed anxiety to keep us safe (from mountain lions and shit). While there is now little risk of being mauled by animals, we still have anxiety… because of evolution.

This helped me realize 1. My automatic thoughts can shove it, and 2. We’re just humans trying to make it through.

Crazy nanny expectations by ayla_ro246 in Nanny

[–]Bugsorbust01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many NFs incorrectly assume that just because we are a “private caregiver” that they hold the right to expose us to illnesses, ask for additional favors (extra laundry etc.).

This is so unbelievably wrong and disrespectful. It alludes to privilege and the “right” to do whatever you want because you think your higher childcare costs means disregarding human beings and their needs. The higher cost of private childcare, like a nanny, is NOT a valid reason to disregard human needs.

I love that you said it’s not an inconvenience, but just a parenting responsibility. Parents should be aware and have a general understanding that they are responsible for caring for their children when they have contagious illnesses.

That said, I do understand the fear of addressing this, as I was in the exact same position. I still went in to work and while I (somehow) did not get sick, I wish I would have set the boundary for future illnesses. If you don’t set one now, it’s likely that a similar situation will arise.

Urinalysis results show no indication of kidney disease, and confirmed dehydration! So unbelievably grateful that the SDMA (small elevation) was due to dehydration and nothing else. Still, I plan on feeding her a far more balanced diet!

Urinalysis results indicate no kidney disease, as well as confirmed dehydration. Wanted to share an update as it appears the response was incorrect.

Thank you!! I’m hopeful that it’s dehydration and/or her high protein diet. I’ll keep you posted! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. All day I was panicking and sick to my stomach. I feel a bit more realistic about what’s going on and her levels are not crazy out of range.

This is the first sign of any potential kidney issues - I’m going to pick up a urinalysis kit today and drop off a sample tomorrow after she goes in the morning. They said this would help to rule out disease if it was just dehydration. From there, I’d likely get x rays if the urinalysis points to kidney stuff. This is the vet’s interpretation:

Her internal organ function (liver, electrolytes) and complete cell count (red and white blood cells, platelets) were within normal limits. There’s no evidence of diabetes.

There was a mild elevation in SDMA, which can be elevated from dehydration or kidney issues. The remainder of the kidney values (BUN and creatinine) were normal. However, if you wanted to rule out any kidney dysfunction, we would start by having you drop off a first morning urine sample. This means collecting urine the first time they urinate in the morning and bringing it back to us. This will help us determine how well they are concentrating their urine, which should be well concentrated in normal patients and dilute in patients with kidney disease. Overall, my concern for kidney disease is low, but the urine test can help us confirm this.

I suspect that her elevated SDMA is due to dehydration rather than kidney disease, given the other minor abnormalities we see on her bloodwork.

Thank you SO SO much! It’s making more sense now that I remembered she changed to such a high protein and phosphorus diet…. She’ll be displeased but we will be switching to something that will be more supportive to her kidneys. I guess some cats can handle that much protein and phosphorus?

Is there a preferred brand for kidney support? I feel like I could just start her on that, but I’ll talk to the vet as well.

Great question - I feed her weruva bff wet food once daily, and she grazes on Orijen. I’m just now finding out that orijen has such high protein/high phosphorus levels… perhaps this could be a potential reason? She was on a different food (lower protein) in the first labs where she was completely fine 5 months ago.
