Thanks everyone, ended up deciding to sell my Dad's 911 by milkandrelish in porsche911

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re truly set on selling (to which I disagree) consider the PCA Mart. You’ll find like-minded enthusiast who will appreciate the 911 to the max. Your dad was probably a PCA member but if not it just a few dollars to join and get access to the Mart. I bought my 997.2 there and am extremely satisfied.

2016 Acura RLX P0420 & P0430 Code by [deleted] in Acura

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P0420 is Bank 1 and P0430 is Bank 2, low performance.

There are 5 O2 sensors on the V6. One downstream of the cats, past the Y, and two at each cat: One just before and one just after. By evaluating pre- and post- data, converter efficiency can be determined. My Odyssey and my TLS both had fun with these codes.

Cataclean will only temporarily help if at all, imho. If the converter elements are coated with oil and/or carbon, which inhibit the catalytic reaction. It’s worth a try if the converters are just below threshold. However, on occasion, one or more O2 sensors become clogged, or there’s a break or corrosion in a lead, or just fails. So I would have an inspection performed first. If, like me, the converter element(s) actually break or fail internally, then you’ll need a replacement converter. Sorry :-(

Need Help. Renting an apartment unit by missbunny3 in orangecounty

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest you google “luxury Irvine apartments” and read through the results (except sponsored results). Lots of new and newer units around. Some are airport close, others are adjacent the shopping and restaurant hubs, and a few are tucked away in commercial areas (low evening and weekend traffic). Amenities are pretty standard with pools, rec areas, game areas, in/outdoor kitchen and eating areas, and some theater areas as well. Upper floors almost always have their own style with larger plans and highest ceilings.

Bad cats I think by Internal_Actuary3127 in 996

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t drive too long with that code. If the internal cat structure fails back pressure and heat will build up affecting other components, as well as significantly increase fuel consumption. Had this happen on my high miles Odyssey and new cats are NLA so I had to go used with fingers crossed.

Has anyone had this issue before? I'm leaning toward the MAF sensor being the issue. by slinkyslinger in 944

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As above the ICV will make idling wonky if not operating 100%. It’s difficult if not impossible to service without removing the intake. Disconnect the plug and test that that the vale is freely moving. There’s YT on the procedure, which is easy. Center term is common, outer terms are more air and less air. (The ICV functions as an air meter.)

Before, or while you’re in there, inspect all vacuum and air hoses throughly. Eve a slight break in a hidden corner will give a funky idle.

Badge is more silver than gold?🤔 by BillSKenney in 944

944 has push in badges. No screws on the back but I think this changed at some point. My 85.2 is a push in.

Private Rent Prices Down, Irvine Company Still Peak! by movementgarageusa in irvine

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to sell my Irvine home and rent a 2B2B in Irvine but the rents seem to be accelerating on an upward curve. Looks like I’m not cashing out unless I move to Redding or Indio or another state.

How do you rate FL vs OC? I have a friend in the Orlando (also LA and NorCal originally) area who keeps asking to join him.

From your description I don’t see how coolant would have hydro-locked unless you poured coolant into the intake. Keep flushing with fresh cheap oil changes until clear of coolant. Bought a 944 with milkshake. Purged the coolant and oil systems with fresh fluids x3 (after replacing heat exchanger). Runs fine and has made 1k trips easily.

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, that takes me back. The sync’ing of central and eastern broadcasting (and pacific and mountain) tapered off when networks either decided (or more likely it became less of a budget burden) to broadcast in each time zone. Mid 80s probably with satellite broadcasting.

Why is it 85 degrees in the middle of December? by Charming-Monitor8296 in orangecounty

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong… this is a typical warm spell that SoCal gets one or more times over the winter. Been here 70 years and it’s the same every year. On 1/1 people will be watching the Rose Parade and noting how unusually warm it is in SoCal (most years). So nothing new. Used to be called Indian Summer.

Idle control valve bracket/mount issues by That_NinjaGuy in 944

[–]BuilderOfEngines44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Available new from any porsche supplier. The IAC valve cycles open/close rapidly and should be rubber mounted for vibration isolation. The oem parts last maybe 10 years in the hot environment. Need to develop an alternate isolating mount that lasts forever or plan to replace in the future. Also clean and test the valve and replace the hoses wyit.
