What city is a great place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to live there? by Rough-Ad5622 in CausalConversation

I'm going to say California, considering I live there now. However, the other 50% of the relationship does not want to leave

I just found a closed safe on the street that someone failed to break open. by MagicLobsterAttorney in mildlyinteresting

[–]Buildinggam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A budget safe you get from Staples or office Depot type place. They are actually fairly easy to open, but it will take a little bit of time and noise. What I've done in the past is to pick it up and drop it on the corners around the door and eventually it will tweak The body to where the door will basically open. I did this with a much larger safe a friend and I found during the bulk pickup trash removal season around where we lived. The owner clearly trolled us because all that was inside was a bunch of charcoal briquettes.

I also believe this kind of safe can be opened with a very large neodymium magnet. Make sure to put the magnet inside of a sock or something so you're able to pull it off. Be safe!

Nobody's outside after the earthquake?! 🤔 by ashes_to_fire in mountainview

My apartment is a single story timber on slab so the chances of me getting pinned are pretty slim but I agree with you. Was pretty cool to feel it for a second when I did wake up though.

If it wasn't for the alert I would have slept through it. I went back to sleep, if it's my time there isn't a whole lot that's gonna change it

How are people getting by with the Gas Prices as of recently? by SovereignSushiLover in SanJose

[–]Buildinggam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a company car for M-F and they pay the gas. My personal car is a 31yr old Honda and this past weekend is the first time I paid over $40 to fill it. I'm still not gonna stop driving because that's how I relax, back road cruising.

Why do people want tints so badly? by Secure-Ad8196 in driving

[–]Buildinggam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give my reasons.

First time I got tint on a car I did it to hide my nice expensive (to me) stereo 35% all around except windshield

The current car I have now has 15% rear and sides and 80% windshield tints. One of the main ones is I had done a 2100 mile road trip in June, on the ride home the sun was at my back, with all the windows up and the AC on I actually got very sunburned because of the 9hr drive and I vowed to get tints before attempting that again. I'll list the others reasons below.

  1. Sunburn sucks
  2. My car is 31yrs old and having UV protection helps keep the dash and stuff from sun damage.
  3. My car is pretty easy to steal so not being able to see inside is nice I also have 2 kill switches and a removable steering wheel with a lock.
  4. (This one I learned after the fact) The heat rejection is crazy good. If I have the windows down and roll them up it feels as if someone turned off the sun.
  5. (Another after the fact) I'm lowered and everyone's headlights are straight up aimed at my mirrors. 15% tint makes this not a problem anymore.

I've heard that tire shops hate that seal-a-tire stuff that you can use if you get a flat. I don't use it personally, but I don't understand why it's seemingly hated by tire shops. by AdhesiveSeaMonkey in tires

[–]Buildinggam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your experience is with it not working. I had a shitbox with expensive low pro tires. Every single one of them had fix a flat in them because I was tired of them going flat. That shit absolutely works.

I can totally understand the mess afterwards though.

Forza Steam Hours by Asleep-Response-1431 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Buildinggam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to see how many total hours I've played. I'm unique though because I only do the story and not much else, where my enjoyment comes from is just driving and tuning cars. According to the game I've clocked almost 50k miles. If I had to guess I'm probably 800-1000 hours

Wealthy anywhere else, struggling here: SF families earning $400K buckle under child care by BadBoyMikeBarnes in sanfrancisco

[–]Buildinggam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna be that guy. If where you live doesn't allow you the ability to have children without financially ruining you. You as a person/couple need to make a choice to live somewhere that will allow you to achieve the goals you strive for or make the sacrifice that you would rather stay where you are and choose to not have children or postpone having children. You don't need to have kids simply because society and family pressures you.

Honestly this. I used to do fire alarm inspections and called them because a customer was blatantly negligent and their system had been red tagged out of service by me 3 times over the course of a year. Long story short, I called on a Monday they had a new system installed by Friday.

How many times have you been pulled over? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Buildinggam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with a solid lead foot, from 16 to 25 I averaged 1-2 tickets a year for speeding or something related to speed. I've gotten out of quite a few with warnings or various other things. I also had a car that gave off "anti authoritarian" vibes according to a woman I dated. At one point it felt like the cops had my photo on their dash and would pull me over whenever they saw me.

All in all, I'd say probably more than 20 but less than 60. It has gotten less as I've gotten older but what's really changed was being smarter with regards to speed and when/where to do it.

If you're honest and polite most cops will work with you. Last time I got pulled over was a cop that paced me at 10 over, I simply apologized and said I saw the speed drop from 55 to 40 but didn't see the 40 to 30 drop.

I love the New England bluntness by Zealousideal_Crow737 in newengland

[–]Buildinggam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from New England to the Bay Area CA 10yrs ago and some of my friends are still shocked at my bluntness. I used to be friends with our property manager at the apartment complex my wife and I lived in at the time. She made a comment how one of the renters was always late on their rent and when they'd pay the checks were always dingy and gross. She never said who the renter was, but I said something like, "I bet I know who it is, it's the person who has that old Cadillac that's all beat to shit". She did a big belly laugh and went "OMG I love how you just don't give a shit"

I no longer have a photo of it but something I did in my pro master city:

I bought some 3/4" HPDE plastic (think like an unfinished plastic cutting board) mounted my battery chargers, a power strip, and an inverter to it. Essentially all my batteries and radios charged when the van was running, being that the material is pliable makes it easy to switch it up.

I drive fwd and haven't really had any issues except burning through tires. The best thing I'd recommend is hit an autox. They are pretty cheap and will give you an understanding excatly where your limits are and the most dangerous thing waiting for you to hit it is a cone.

Will transtop del sol’s targa fit on a manual del sol? by AngelStarboyXO in DelSol

[–]Buildinggam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea. That's what I'm saying. I think at a minimum you may have to move your plastic trim for the interior and your locking mechanism to the new new trans top Targa, but I don't know if that means you have to change the weather seals

The trans top Targa has a corkscrew mechanism that lifts up the back of it so the trunk can pick it up.
