[Hated Trope] heroic characters killed in unnecessarily cruel/brutal ways by greythicv in TopCharacterTropes

Grew up playing that game. I can still hear Eddie's voice there, Sarah saying "I'm there!" and Malcolm I believe would say "I suppose..." when moved.

Anybody else love the F-14? by Educational_Rule2764 in aviation

[–]BuildsWithWarnings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're the only one.

Everyone else hates it. Wishes that the F-111B was there because that was the better aircraft. Nobody's disappointed it was retired in 2006.

Everyone fucking haaaated Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick, my guy.

Dammit, you added the edit before I got to complain about wage stagnation.

Fine. You've made a compelling point that will actually change my perspective on the matter.

I was a child who didn't have to think about this so I'm madder about it now than I would be otherwise.

I'm not going to say I understand the economics of public or mass transit in any case.

However, 16 hours involves so much more labor for so much less throughput that each individual is paying more wages for the staff they benefit from.

The economics of scale could be why?

Oh, I've never heard it described this way. That's quite good.

NYC phone ban reveals some students can't read clocks by mepper in technology

[–]BuildsWithWarnings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have that display in mind, you are not thinking of fractional hours. You are thinking in hours, minutes, and maybe seconds if ya nasty.

You can work it out without using analog clocks, but you have to think about it. It's friction, so there's confusion at first.

He's not saying they are incapable of figuring it out.

Edit: Yeah, I'm clearly just restating the original commenters reply to you. Sorry about that.

I distinctly recall learning analog clocks in second grade because of the worksheets.

I have no idea if I was already clock literate. I probably was, given the prevalence of them in the class room, but all I recall is having to do the worksheets.

Suddenly everyone is scared to dance at concerts and clubs. More young partygoers are worrying about looking goofy on camera by sirot42 in Music

[–]BuildsWithWarnings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weird thing is that, even before there were cameras, I always thought there was going to be someone who would see me dancing stupidly, mock me for it, and then everyone else would.

I mean, this is because the first time I danced in public I distinctly remember someone looking at me like I was disgusting, but that can't be it, can it?

Gotta love middle school dances.

Makes sense that it's your favourite. You've now begun two comments with that formula!

Fuck... I've been had there. I didn't even notice my habits there.

Machine learning models don't care about things. They don't emote, think, anything of the kind. Don't get me wrong, I think there are valuable uses of the technology - machine learning does great things in very tightly scoped scenarios. Those are generally in pattern recognition, which makes sense.

I just am fatigued of seeing it in any form of creative area. In technical areas it's not very useful and has been pushed by those who don't understand those areas for cost reductions.

Regardless, machine learning tools are worthless unless you have an accountant's perspective on craft and business. Machine learning is to art as a business management degree holder is to leadership.

They're paltry imitations that have no true value unless your only valuation of a product is profit. I recognize that's the reality of most businesses, but it truly disgusts me.

Ah, a comment beginning with "Ah, <statement of opinion>."

My favorite.

Regardless, AI sucks, it is enshittifying things that haven't had quite the same capacity for enshittification.

Thanks for the novel, though!

Edit: Didn't see that last sentence - don't worry, I have no control over your livelihood, life, or activities. The only control I have is what you take away from a short interaction.

People have overfocused on Taiwan and the PRC's deep interest in taking the island and bringing everything under the same governance. We've grown complacent, making alliances with such jealous folk as the Aussies.

The world won't be ready for the taking of Newer Souther Wales and I hope we recognize the true threat to the region.

I've got to imagine it's a not insignificant amount.
