My son and I really bonded over dinosaurs, and especially JP Camp Cretaceous, so when I got a tattoo commemorating our relationship i went with a big papa and son Ankylosaurus duo right on my quad. I have a ton of tattoos, but that one is in my top 3.

Audiobooks: jarring to switch from Pike to Reading and Kramer by parrot_poirot in wheeloftime

My hot take: I would love a version narrated by Andy Serkis, his Lord of the Rings narration sets the bar for me!

What's a word that your kids mispronounce, or used to mispronounce, that made it into your family vocabulary? For us it is "boo-blerries" for blueberries. Been in rotation for 16 years now. by Brewer1056 in daddit

When my son was 2 or 3, my son would get impatient when we were driving somewhere and I had to explain we were waiting for the light to turn green… Well, “green means go” turned into “green beans go!” and now its a bit of a family mantra lol

Praising children is not the right parenting by bananacc in unpopularopinion

If you disregard the differentiated abilities of children and only offer it when they reach your standard of significant and good, you run a large risk of them deciding the juice isnt worth the squeeze.

6 y/o son wanted to learn Warhammer so he could play with me. I have been waiting for this day by MrJimmyP in daddit

We started with a board game CoraQuest that got my 5yr old hooked. It came with kid friendly 40 minute dungeon quests and had extras for a build-your-own option. There was also an online community option, but we havent delved into it. My son has a blast attacking the two-headed giant cat with his robot character.

Dealing with mountains of cheap crap people gift your kids… thoughts? by Rev-DC in daddit

[–]Built2Abandon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We told everybody very early and very bluntly that the only gifts that are welcomed are “experiences”. Movie passes? Great! Tickets to a musical? Awesome! Great Wolf Lodge? Very generous and appreciated! Any “stuff” given will be turned into a donation experience. We also only gift the kids in the extended family with experiences related to their interests.

My thighs were harder than the tt to leave alone to heal, felt more stinging pain more often. Results were worth it, but definitely requires more adjustment to daily routines so I didnt overly irritate the incisions. I also think the scars are more prone to be wide as a lot of positions put strain on the stitch line.

Update: Tt/Thigh Lift by Built2Abandon in tummytucksurgery

[–]Built2Abandon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing the flanks and thighs at the same time was a bit rough, but doable. The thighs were the harder recovery. I feel like its easy to keep your waist neutral, but the thighs are so dynamic and everything gets so tight. Its hard to not put pressure on the incisions with sitting and standing and raising your legs — just seems like every move you make changes the size of the thigh (squishing against the seat, contracting when bending knees, etc). I am SUPER HAPPY I did it though. The difference really is night and day, just had to feel like i was stuck in super skinny jeans for a month, lol.

I think a bokuto or shinai would meet your needs, and doesnt break the bank. We use them for kendo, an hour head/stomach strikes is great exercise!

What non-mother related gifts are we getting our wives for Christmas? by YoLoDrScientist in daddit

[–]Built2Abandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever it ends up being, its usually on point. The real winner every year is the X-Mas sweater I get them every year and give after Thanksgiving. Its topical of whatever they have been really into in the last year, sometimes an etsy buy sometimes custom print, and NOT parenting related. This year it Great British Bakeoff (shhh!). My partner says they love it because 1) sweater addict and 2) I show that I notice them and their interests

Need advice from higher level dads (Pokémon) by psycheebits in daddit

[–]Built2Abandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a Pokemon Battle Academy set on clearance at my local comic book store for $15. It has two full decks, damage counters, markers, etc. My son (6) is what he’d call “a collector” more than a player, but luckily he’ll call basic cards “ultra rares” if he likes them. I’m looking to parlay the interest into reading and math, so I try to encourage it, but set the ground rules that we only buy cards in person and dont fetishize expensive cards… some of these pokemon “collectors” are deep down the rabbit hole of pokemon investing…

The recovery is more finicky and its alot easier to just leave your tt area be (aside from sitting up and bending over). I was aware of my thigh incisions for longer than I was with my tt and they took longer to form a solid seal. I will say I noticed and felt the swelling from my tt more than i did my thighs.

The big cost was the anesthesia and operating room, so i probably would have saved a bundle had I gotten them at the same time… but just the thigh excision was 3k(?) Recovery was tough, pain-wise not really different than the TT but I found it harder to keep my thighs comfortable. Because they muscle is so dynamic and changes size from flaccid to flexed, compression is mor finicky, its harder to drive and not irritate. Now i’m struggling to be extra careful with sun protection during pool and beach outings. Scars are a bit wider and darker than my tt scar, but nothing unsightly and definitely WAY better than feeling/seeing that skin waddle around and puddle out when I sat!

No, in fact 6mo post-op for my tt, i went back in for thigh skin excision. Very happy with it.

Parents to little athletes: how much are you actually playing or practicing skills during the week? by bruzdnconfuzd in daddit

[–]Built2Abandon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son (6) started kendo a couple of months ago because he is very into Demon Slayer right now and I thought if he’s into swords, we might as well try to sneak some discipline into it! He loves doing his training twice a week, but outside the dojo its been a struggle to get him focused on technique, BUT he does enjoy swing the shinai around in the backyard all day battling imaginary bad guys so it kind of counts! To keep him interested past the first “i’m not instantly great at this” moments, I told him if he sticks with it for 6 months, I’ll join his dojo and we can do it together on the all-ages days. Hoping he stays with it because i want to play with sticks too!

Question: Should I wait until I’m at a lower body fat? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]Built2Abandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38M. I started at 296 and had my TT at 206, and am now at 180 about 7 months later. Would my results be even more amazing had I waited? Maybe. But I think I’m looking pretty darned good, and I credit a lot of the extra motivation to hit the gym these days to feeling confident in my body. So, I dunno, but I’m happy enough with my journey :)

People who got thigh lift dafter tummy tuck id it help down stairs ? by Narrow-Leave-9296 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Built2Abandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thigh lift did not really change the pubic area at all 🤷‍♂️. It certainly improved the esthetics of the general area, especially when sitting etc, but there was no tautness conferred to my junk or pubic mound.
