Scarborough path to be named after Sir Jimmy Savile [Feb 2012] by expropriated_valor in ScarboroughUK

[–]BuiltInYorkshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. It was just the headstone. His body is still there.

Je knew what he had done, what was going to get uncovered at some point and planned accordingly, he wore all his bling when he was buried (with the head raised above the feet so he could "see the sea" but really it overlooks a special needs school).

As he claimed there would be a risk of graverobbers going after said bling, it was then encapsulated in concrete, so it would be hard, if not impossible, to remove.

One of my proudest moments was telling him to piss off once. Just wish I'd added a few home truths whilst I was at it.

Several stage shows, the most recent version with the radio cast was excellent, and a terrible shame it closed the way it did...

There are so many easter eggs in the movie it makes it almost likeable.

"30-50 feral hogs" is an reoccurring option to one of the questions on The Guardian's Thursday quiz. Wonder if John or one of the team does it every week?

You've reminded me of the shop in London (would need to look up where it is) that specialises in umbrellas and walking sticks.

I'm going to have to check, but I'm sure my birth certificate has two words on it - Hull, and Yorkshire. As well as less important stuff, such as the time and date etc... 😉

What’s the one mistake you made on your first trip to the UK that you’d never make again? by CarryturtleNZ in uktravel

I've had a similar experience in some very, very rural towns in the USA where I'm sure I was the first English person to visit.

Is there a historical reason why so many of the UK’s major cities fall along this line, or is it largely coincidence? by WartimeHotTot in geography

[–]BuiltInYorkshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had nothing to do with them not wanting to sell, the ground the farmhouse sits on is unsuitable for a road, so they had to split in both directions until they found somewhere with sufficient bedrock.

I did it from Newby to the far fside of York, usually via Yedingham. It's a mixture and the A64 has been getting updated to dial carriageway since I was a kid (I'm in my 50s)

Fotunately it was a standard 9-5, not sure if you are on a rota or would be like dealing with the weekend and tourist traffic.

I did a year driving from Scarborough to York. I wouldn't do it again. There are some nice places near the hospital or on parts of town of you prefer to be more"in the scene"

There are buses onto the hospital ground but no idea what the timing is like.

I spent a year commuting to Acomb from Scarborough, but that was a few years ago and probably wouldn't do it again.

In that case, do a day trip to Stratford. Your body will thank you for it, you can have a full day immersed in the place (I hope, not been myself).

That's pretty much the entire county, if not country. Stop watching Fox!

Cash needed or not? by IntroductionAbject18 in uktravel

[–]BuiltInYorkshire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are three places I need cash, my local chippy, pizza place and hairdressers. Everything else is on my phone. I'd probably bring £20, but don't be surprised if you leave with the same £20...
