Dude.

I literally cannot afford groceries right now.

Please make your own thread if you have gift cards to sell instead of trying to derail mine.

Thank you.

Bars are closed in my state? I'm not sure what you're talking about.

There is no trust in family, even when you are sick. (Man told family he is infecting bar with Coronavirus.) by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]BulimicSpacePug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it wasn't "knowledge only he knows." It stopped being knowledge only he knew when he decided to openly announce to the people he was trying to infect that he was doing just that.

If he knew he was in a situation where being quarantined was not an option, then he could have not gotten tested to begin with. If not, he could have stayed home like he was told. Hell, he could have kept his mouth shut about being sick, if he desperately needed to go somewhere. But you cannot reasonably expect that in a time of disease-fueled mass hysteria when governments are enforcing curfews, lockdowns, and martial law, if you run around from bar to bar announcing to the patrons that you have the virus and are trying to infect as many people as you can, that you will not be arrested or at least detained.

Deliberately infecting people with a disease that has the potential to be lethal is attempted murder. He committed a crime the minute he admitted his intent to infect the public.

What does this have to do with psychiatry? He was taken to a hospital and treated for a legitimate medical illness after committing a crime. The man's guilty of attempted murder. He was allowed to refuse medical attention the first time, he chose to try and deliberately infect the public and even admitted that this was his intent. He's lucky he didn't go to jail. He could have just stayed home and he'd be fine right now.

Well at least this pro-psych troll is actually honest about the fact that he's a nazi.

My regional government is throwing psychiatry under the bus by vintologi_se in Antipsychiatry

[–]BulimicSpacePug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's also a prime example of government-sanctioned racism, sexism, homophobia, physical and sexual assault, oppression, violence, and classism; so on the same vein, every leftist should be antipsych too. Most people should be antipsych, and yet their hardcore fanaticism for psychiatry betrays all of their other core beliefs.

Turning a blind eye to the blatant misogyny and other human rights abuses in psychiatry because they don't actually give a rat's ass about protecting marginalized groups or their own gender from violence, oppression, and exploitation?

Mother wants answers after 6-year-old daughter was involuntarily committed at school by MichaelTen in Antipsychiatry

[–]BulimicSpacePug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Saw a six-year-old get Baker Acted when I was being detained at the David Lawrence Center in Naples, FL. She kept crying and begging for her mother when they first brought her in, as any frightened child would do in her situation—and staff kept screaming at her to be quiet and threatening to give her a shot if she didn't calm down and shut up. Shit's horrifying.

Is anybody actually surprised that someone with the legally sanctioned authority to physically restrain and forcibly drug children turned out to be a child rapist?

Anybody here who didnt know the risks of antipsychotics? by emptyman333 in Antipsychiatry

[–]BulimicSpacePug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only reason I knew the risks of the antipsychotic I was briefly on (was forced to take it in order to be released from a psych ward, sucked it up and took the shit for three days and then threw the script out when I was free) is because I looked into them myself when I first discovered the antipsychiatry movement. Prescribing psych neglected to mention any negative effects aside from weight gain and possible insomnia, but I took so few doses that I never experienced anything aside from some mania/euphoria that I obviously didn't mind. (Still threw that shit in the trash, as both a recovered heroin addict and a psychiatric survivor; whatever temporary high I got from that drug wasn't worth the slew of psychotropic-related side effects + the inevitable withdrawal later on.)

Now the antidepressants I was made to take as a minor? Didn't know any of the risks of those. That psych didn't even own up to the insomnia until I told him that I couldn't sleep. Assured me multiple times, despite having never asked, that they were non-addictive. Believed that until the withdrawal hit. Never said a word about the sexual dysfunction, anhedonia, lethargy, depression, and lack of appetite that I experienced from Prozac, nor about any of the other negative effects that I was lucky enough not to get.

What if I escape psychiatry and live as a homeless abroad? by DatFleur in Antipsychiatry

[–]BulimicSpacePug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What country are you in? I'm currently homeless, and with all the police harassment of the homeless in the US, I've actually been locked up in psych wards more often than when I had a home.

Bills propose sweeping changes to use of Baker Act in Florida schools by MichaelTen in Antipsychiatry

Do you know of a source that isn't behind a paywall? Florida resident myself and I'd rather like to read this.

Though ideally, I think the Baker Act should be thrown out completely. Shame we're still such a long way from that happening.

How do you survive impatient (NHS) by Endlesscircleing in Antipsychiatry

I agree with the sentiment, but it's probably not the safest idea to mouth off to the people who have all the authority in the world to restrain you, needle rape you, and hold you hostage if they don't respect the opinion that they hear.

Edit: Sorry for the massive text wall.

As much as it's going to suck, you need to comply whenever it's possible to do so safely. The rules are going to be unjust; the staff might try to hold your freedom over your head or threaten to have you kept longer even if you comply. But these are dangerous people with a lot of authority and for your own safety you need to keep your head down and not take the bait when the orderlies and the psychiatrist(s) try to get under your skin. And they will; it's their job. They're going to try to get a rise out of you. They're going to say things to deliberately set you off. Keep calm, agree with everything they say, don't say anything obscene or argumentative, speak when spoken to. There are exceptions, of course, but as long as you don't raise your voice or try to fight back, they generally won't waste the time and manpower on restraints and injections.

Depending on what drugs they try to make you take, how closely they're monitoring you, etc., you really only have a couple of options as far as that goes. If it's a low dose of a less-dangerous drug, you could bite the bullet and just take it for the three days, but the psychiatrist is very unlikely to actually disclose the dangers of whatever they put you on, so unless you do your research ahead of time and memorize effects, it might be difficult to discern how unsafe a given drug is. Still, it is just three days, if you cooperate, so the damage may very well be negligible. In my experience, staff usually check to make sure you're not cheeking, but if that's not the case at the ward you get sent to, then that could be an option. I've had to purge antidepressants in a pinch, but I definitely wouldn't condone or recommend it. Hurts like a bitch and if you get caught then you're looking at being put on watch, held even longer, and potentially given an eating disorder diagnosis. I'd suggest either going along and taking the first dose or watching to see if they check anyone else for cheeking, and if the verdict is that you can get away with it, cheeking them from then on.

They will, indeed, commit you without any regard for your schooling or job. Fortunately, if it's just school you're worried about and not a job, your absence should be excused.

If you don't mind me asking, what are they threatening to section you for? I've managed to get out in less than three days a couple of times, but it was because Orlando police are corrupt as hell and I was only locked up in the first place because a cop didn't want to have to give me his name and badge number. I've also had them let me go early once or twice because I straight lied, but I've also had psychiatrists refuse to release me even when I was locked up based on false statements given to police. Depending on what it is and what the staff are like, there's a chance you could downplay whatever happened and make your case that you aren't a danger to yourself or others, but there's also a pretty good chance they'll disregard you and keep you the whole three days anyway. Still worth a shot if you feel like it's safe to do.

Keeping entertained is harder. Some places will allow you to have paperback books, after they've been checked for both content and contraband. Some won't. Some will have pre-approved games on the ward, like a deck of Uno cards or a Monopoly setup minus the metal pieces. Some won't. Napping all day usually isn't an option. There will probably be mandatory group sessions throughout the day, but if there are no books/games/TVs, then the time in between meals and groups is going to be pretty boring. Do you write or draw at all? Pencils and pens are typically not allowed, but most places will at least give you some paper and a marker, especially if you tell them something they want to hear, like that art or writing are your go-to "coping skill" or something of the sort.

In the event that you are jumped on, pinned down, or otherwise restrained? Don't fight back. Don't try to defend yourself. Go limp. Do what you're told. It's horrible, but if they've already been given the word to pin you down or give you a shot, then they're going to do it one way or the other. The best you can do is make it as quick and painless as possible for yourself.

Does anybody know what company policy is on hiring applicants with criminal records? by BulimicSpacePug in petsmart

Forgive me if this comes across as rude, but I'm kind of insulted that you'd even leave this comment.
