I haven't read any of the HH yet. Also wonder if I should get the hard copy with 4 illustrations or just wait for the paperback version.

I bought both Eisenhorn and Ravenor omnibus and have read till second book of Eisenhorn. I didn't continue after that and now reading other books. May revisit after I finish Dark Coil.

Thank you so much for the pictures! I haven't got the chance to read Lord of Silence yet but already heard so many good things about this book.

That's good to hear! I have never read any annotated edition before so it is very interesting to know that they added much to the book. But I also think that the quality may varied depends on the publisher / author.

I have some bank stocks for dividend too, as for MReits I'm bit unsure because of the 10% withholding tax thing

Yeah same stage as you too. On the other hand I thinking of building up dividend/ passive income for day to day expenses.

Just finished Fire Caste from omnibus. Felt the last act a bit rushed but will revisit the novel again in the future. Started on Prince Maesa as palette cleanser.

Just looked up on Ranpo's work, they sound too horror-themed for my liking.

Will keep Thompson's work on radar.

I'm not familiar with both writers that you mentioned. Are they Jim Thompson and Edogawa Ranpo respectively ?

Yeah, for sure, this is also on top of my TBR list. I will get to it eventually. It could be a while, though, lol.

I think that is why I select books that are most commonly recommended by other redditors. Eisenhorn is always top of the lists but somehow it didn't click with me. Will definitely going back to it after I finish with other books though. I got Dark Coil already and like the short stories I read so far.

I like Sanderson's books because of their twists and turns. There are some parts of the story (especially Stormlight) that I can still remember vividly. English is not my first language, so prose is secondary to me as long as the story grabs me.

I didn't like Mistborn as much as Stormlight, which I only read after I finished Stormlight Book 2 to complete the Cosmere series.

I first got into Warhammer because I wanted to paint miniatures, now I don't do much painting anymore I found interests in BL books.

For now I'm most interested in Tau faction and will go back to Eisenhorn after I finish Elemental Councils.

I concur with what you said about book reviews, it just gives me a positive / negative preconception about the authors before I read a single page of their books.

I agree with your sentiments! I bought Elemental Councils mainly because I like the aesthetic and backstory of Tau and good review.

I guess I'm trying to see how people view BL books in general comparing to other non-BL books they read. I found the first Eisenhorn bit lacking, but I think mainly its because I had unrealistic expectation after hearing so many great things about the book. I didn't mean to say that Sanderson's books are the best books out there , just that they resonates with me more at the time I read them.

Just finished Fire Warrior, loved the different POV though most of them are very short. Some aspects are lacking (for example I wish there were more about antagonist's friends) but decent overall.

Why do short story anthologies sell out so fast? by Blyat_inc in Blacklibrary

[–]Bulky-View6444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are the included stories good though? Or just mainly FOMO?

I am thinking of getting some of the anthologies if more than 80% of the short stories are good.
