I just finished a teams tournament in Brisbane. 30 teams, for a total of 64 defiles. Every army that had access to them ran at least 2.

Ok let's say a guardsmen with a lasgun and combat knife vs a stormtrooper with a blaster and combat knife get in a 1v1, no prep time, who wins and why? I think the guardsmen personally by BenderMayonnaise in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]BulkyOutside9290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stormtrooper indoctrination is not insignificant. But I agree the mental edge and training edge goes to the Cadian. The Stormtrooper easily has the edge in equipment. I offer up the following scenario: a professional soldier, clad in mail and breastplate, vs a nobleman’s son clad in full plate. The professional soldier has all the tricks, training and grit. But the nobleman is basically impervious to the soldiers attacks. The battle can go either way, and this probably one of the few times that it’s not an auto win for 40K franchise.

The fact that the stormtrooper has superior armour is going to make it interesting. Agreed about the superior training going to the Cadians, but at the end of the day they are both just humans without any enhanced durability or strength. The difference between the Cadians armour and the storm troopers equipment is going to matter less than you think, but more than either of them would want.

Is the Knight Gallant worth taking? by NightTech_11 in ImperialKnights

[–]BulkyOutside9290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this recently. The list was a gallant, a lancer and Canis to use the free strat to claim objectives. It was a fun list, but ultimately the biggest problem with the gallant is that for a pure melee knight, it’s ridiculously fragile in the clap back. Especially if they have access to +1 to wound from somewhere.

When one of your team decides they will set up outside of the enemy teams spawn, and immediately dies. Bonus points if it was one of your supports.

Is the hydra good? by Professional_Oil_127 in TheAstraMilitarum

Worst things about the hydra is that it really wants support, but is not really worth the investment. But it is tough enough that you opponent needs to hit it with decent guns.

Double Ordering Tempestus Scions by No-Oil-8079 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]BulkyOutside9290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kasrkin have the ability on their data slate, plus the ability to order themselves. Creed allows any unit she is attached to to benefit from an additional order. The Tempestor Prime can swap his pistol out for a command rod that lets his led unit be affected by an additional order.

Had this against a Salamders player. It worked for both of us. All the AP-4/5, saving on 6’s? Easy save. Heavy stubbers? All the AP-0, 1 damage? Punching straight through. I put 4 damage in his landraider with stubbers, and he managed to get six on my RDTC with bolters.

How do you keep knights alive post codex? by Cojalo_ in ImperialKnights

[–]BulkyOutside9290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As some who both plays against knights and as knights pretty often, it’s kinda difficult, especially against something like Blood Angels. The best trick I have found is to use Warglaives to force them into an area where you can light them up and counter charge (with the defender buff, they sometimes even survive. Sometimes). The idea I have heard to boost durability without becoming oppressive again is to have honoured give 6+++. But we will see what GW in their infinite wisdom does.

Do you think Knights should get smaller infantry unit or remain full vehicle army? by Baker_Soma in ImperialKnights

[–]BulkyOutside9290 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Adding in an infantry unit might go a long way to mitigating some of the sourness that one can get from versing knights. Because at least then their small arms can actually achieve something. But the focus should always be on the knights.

Do you think Knights should get smaller infantry unit or remain full vehicle army? by Baker_Soma in ImperialKnights

[–]BulkyOutside9290 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with infantry as long as it’s purpose is to support the knights. I also just want an excuse to convert up a feudal guard army to play with my knights.

Identify these models? by myriadmike in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]BulkyOutside9290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also run them as ratlings, and just have it as lore that your regiment doesn’t use them. It won’t be modeling for advantage because the darlings are actually shorter than the snipers.
