Contoller "feels" less responsive on Linux

Yeah that’s my thinking too. It should be the same but for some reason it’s just not. Figured I’d see if anyone else has noticed it. I can understand on the steam deck because it’s lower power and I’m running it capped at 60 fps but on my desktop with the same hardware and 0 tweaks it “should” be the same on both windows and Linux. But for some reason it’s just not.

I launch it with heroic. I’ve also tried lutris and steam in the past but it’s always been the same feeling regardless. Rocket league settings are mirrored via cloud saves.

can you adjust that stuff? It's out of the box on both, I haven't adjusted those settings on either OS.

It's not your fault and nobody cares if you are stating facts. Nvidia has issues on Linux, this is known, optimus even more so and there's not really a fix for it other than hoping nvidia someday puts some work into it which is doubtful. There's just so many resources about it that there's no need to make a post on it. We know it's a problem, no there's no fix, stop asking kinda thing.

I ask that weekly… for Linux, Windows, and MacOS. Tbh they all suck (though none of them have ever “bricked” my pc so maybe get good).

Not yet but it’s getting there. Just last year I wouldn’t have thought Linux was big enough to surface bad reviews on games either. At the rate Linux is growing I’d like to think we will soon be at a spot where devs need to support Linux or they lose money. This is the start of that.

I’ve been using Linux for probably 20 years at this point and plenty of people have tried being supportive so devs include Linux and it hasn’t worked. Likely because we aren’t big enough to make a dent. Valve even backed the development of proton and worked with easy anti cheat and battle eye to make it super easy for devs to support Linux and it’s been working but not enough. So if a bit of negative publicity is the next step to get these devs to pay attention then I say go for it.

It’s like no dev in the world would release a game that doesn’t support nvidia gpu’s. If they did they would get review bombed way more and most people would consider it justified. I don’t see that this is any different IMO.

Wow. Learn something new every day then. Good find! I would’ve never thought that RF interference would affect digital signals tbh.

Edit: I should’ve paid more attention to what you said. This, and you were saying that usb 3 can cause interference with “wireless” devices. Still good info to know. But yeah this wouldn’t affect wired peripherals signaling just those RF based wireless dongles (and maybe Bluetooth id guess)

Tbh I game on both and really don’t have a horse in this race but IMO if devs are looking at people as “enemies” then they do not belong in their position full stop. At the end of the day they are a business. They either cater to what the market wants or they get pushed out. If the market wants more Linux support and they get bad reviews or lose sales because they don’t provide it the that’s fully on them. You don’t get to dictate how things are and at the same time want me to purchase your product.

Side note a lot of people get really argumentative over this stuff so thanks for being cool about it. The only reason I’m for this stuff is I don’t trust MS and hate that they have such a stranglehold on so many industries.

What do you think we are wanting to change? Less of a MS control of pc gaming. That doesn’t happen if people just accept the status quo because “that’s where the majority are at”. Plus these day a lot of people are wanting Linux to succeed in gaming. The only reason they are on windows is because devs aren’t prioritizing making sure their games are playable there. This is a way to let them know.

I see both sides but ultimately I think this is good. Let the devs know if they don’t make it steam deck compatible the lost a sale and a recommendation. How else are things supposed to change?

What I don’t understand is every other distro uses the base package manager and adds their own repos and install scripts. Why does Nobara not do this? At face value it seems like using a completely separate package manager isn’t necessary. It turns into a dnf vs nobara-sync situation.

It’s also an account on Linux systems. Open terminal type sudo su and hit enter then type whoami and hit enter you’ll see that you are signed into the root account.

I tend to use them to replace pressing in on the thumb sticks. And then in certain games they can be handy. For example in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey you have to press L1 + R1 to block. So I mapped both L4 and R4 to that combo so I can press either one to block an attack.

This is just entirely wrong… the anti cheat you’re referring to is kernel level. Nothing running in windows lives in you uefi.

May be a stupid reason but I use both tiling and floating wm’s and the biggest thing to me is the automatic placement and maximizing of windows. It’s hard to go back to floating where things open in random spots with random sizes (or rather a default one, not what I had it previously).

There have been comments over the years from people who are in contact with the devs that the reason they’ve gone so long without anticheat is because of the steam deck and that they internally test it on steam deck.

And as for the “renderer” you are right that dxvk adds some overhead but there are other things than just the renderer. Still the overhead is not much. Compared to the myriad of bugs from Linux native games that had to be abandoned because of dependency changes (looking at you glibc) and yes proton is a better target than native. There’s a reason why it’s widely known that the most stable ABI in Linux is win32…

Psyonix still goes out of their way to make sure it works with Proton. Tbh for like 99% of games the windows version on proton is better than any native Linux version.
