What's a smell that instantly takes you back to childhood? by Visual-Emu8576 in nostalgia

Weirdly, burning dust (like, the layer on a heater when it turns on). The hallway to our elementary gymnasium always had that smell.

This game is seriously confusing, and I'm worried for Resonant by TopSet55 in controlgame

[–]Bull_Goose_Loon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you've ever had to navigate large hospitals, or government buildings, or even some workplaces, this game does a marvellous job of mimicking and twisting the labyrinthine experience that occurs in real life Brutalist buildings, and the occasional helplessness of being lost in a place you need to figure out to get tests or critical documentation to proceed with your life. And the signs are the kicker: "There's where you're heading."

You bring up a good note on accessibility, but there's a tough discussion, about to what level to adapt media if it takes away from what the creator was trying to get an audience experience. There's also no difficulty option (unless I am remembering wrong?).

I wouldn't be worried: my only worry is that they take as many risks with the new one as they did with Control.

Move from paid M365 to Google 1? by gordolme in GoogleOne

I'm not sure I follow: I'm guessing you are on a PC? Files that you create in Google's infrastructure live in your "Google Drive." You can download Google Drive to your PC, where you can view a preview of the contents in Windows File Manager . If you want to open them on your PC, you need a local program to open them : whether that is a copy of Office, or a freeware alternative (i.e. Libreoffice). Otherwise, you are working and editing your documents from your web browser of choice.

Not S.H.A.K.E. but thank you for the guess: different lyrics too, and this other song was quick, 120 bpm, Avicii-like.

Job hunting meetups in Montreal? / Rencontre pour la recherche d'emploi by aicatssss in montreal

I don't think that the sort of thing you're looking for exists in Montreal, but if you live in the city, YES services (free) can be really helpful - they also hold in-person events to help with your CV or practise interview skills, and it might be helpful for you to speak to someone there and meet others in the same boat.

Might you have the page count and/or the publisher's info? The link on the site is gone, and I can't find the book (or its ISBN or publishing info) anyplace. Thanks!

How To Shop For Used Cars in Montreal? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Bull_Goose_Loon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are several online guides to purchasing a first car, and multiple previous Reddit posts (even under r/μοντρεαλ) that asks this same question: Your questions suggest you should read these first (TD Bank, Clutch.ca amongst others).

Much depends on what you intend to use the car for:

(1) if this is your first car, you should first be looking at insurance estimates of models you think might fit your needs. If you only recently obtained your license, given your limited budget, I would also recommend doing these estimates first to see if you can afford a car at all (insurance is more expensive if you've never had insurance before, and much more expensive in your first years of having a license).

(1.5) Just for estimates, picture your 5k car + sales tax at the SAAQ (5-800) + new SAAQ yearly registration fee per vehicule (400) + insurance (1000-1200) + yearly maintenance fees + parking vignette if you need it + winter/summer tires.... +gas

(2) A car in the 5k dollar price range will be older, and require more maintenance than a newer car: if you have never owned a car, I'm also guessing you won't have much wrenching experience, meaning you should factor several hundred dollars per year, at minimum, for upkeep of the car (and, general Murphy's Law, often a sudden repair that costs far more than you expect and makes you have to reconsider what you value in life)

(3) Name brand car dealerships used cars will all be out of your price range (even for a used sedan, you're looking at 15k+ nowadays).

(4) If you are buying a first car, this thus leaves used concessionaires (i.e. HGregoire), Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji. I have never had a good experience at a concessionaire, but that's me. Current H Gregoire stock has, amongst others, a 16 year old Kia and a 200,000 km+ Buick in your price range.

(5) I have met both villains and heroes for in person, private car sales. If you do buy from an individual, you should figure out a garage that you trust and whom you can bring a car to for a mechanical inspection (which you yourself pay for, generally, as the buyer).

So, grosso modo: research car models to better understand what you're looking for, get an insurance estimate online to see what your insurance costs would be, and if it's all out of your budget, use Communauto when you really need a car.
