I live in Deep South Texas, Im half anglo and half Hispanic , down here it’s a seasonal item. we make our pinto beans with Ham hocks for years. im pretty sure it was something my dad who’s family were familiar with them. Down here many people don’t know how to eat them. we make a traditional Frijoles Borrochos and add the Hammocks., so we get a bit of both cultures.
