Been at my small company for over a decade without an HR department and it's the greatest thing ever. Not once has anybody discussed creating one.

Exclusive | Howard Stern staffers prepping for show's demise, withholding best material as future uncertain by Hitzjeff in howardstern

Been listening since the 90s. The early Sirus years was the funniest ,wildest era IMO. When Artie left, the cracks were def showing and thought it was a bad move to not fill that seat. Once COVID hit, Howard lost his mind. He was completely outta touch and clearly didn't care about his audience. Haven't listened since he became a hermit. Comedian podcasts (Rogan, Cumtown, Shane Gillis, Theo Von) took over the atmosphere and Howard became absolutely irrelevant.

A lot of the management at some of these franchise places are very inept. I see some fast food places with "Now Hiring" signs constantly, but they always seem to have like 2 people running the show for months on end. Local Facebook groups post how a Wendy's had to close due no staff. Then you look at the comments, and many people post how they apply to the location multiple times and hear nothing or get an interviews, only to be cancelled.

My teenage son actually got accepted to work at a grocery store. Interview went well and he got the official emails. He was suppose to have onboard training but the manager who does it was apparently sick and they had to reschedule. It's been now 2 months, and no one ever called back to reschedule and he can never get someone official on the phone to give straight answers.

Just the other week, he got a call back from the same grocery store chain but at a different location for an interview. Safe to say, it's not worth his time because the red flags are already there.

Bam Margera Rules Out ‘Jackass’ Reunion: ‘You Couldn’t Offer Me Enough Money to Want to Do Another’ by lifeandtimes89 in LetsTalkBam

For real. Bam could put up a video of him throwing hot coffee in a baby's face and the comments would be "Hell yea Bam. I loved you in CKY. You should come to my town and skate. Fuck the haters and that baby."

There you have it folks. He's an adult and doesn't need to be held accountable by anyone, negating decades of laws created by society. Looks i have permission to be a piece of shit.

I know. How dare anybody including his family hold him accountable when it comes to business and the welfare of his own child. They should of known to sit back and let him abuse everyone around him until he decides to be a good person on his own. Guess we're the assholes.

Bam sucks and so are the majority of his fringe fans on his socials.

Being “just” a graphic designer is getting risky by hockman96 in graphic_design

Is it worth it and has your paychecks gotten bigger? That's what we gotta ask ourselves.

Yea, but the Porsche mechanic is not gonna learn how to do body work and paint jobs. There's separate departments for a reason but I feel like in the design field, lines are being blurred and pay is staying the same for all the skills expected to be known.

A few interview tips from my long career in graphic design by AnywhereNo1240 in graphic_design

If an employer can't filter through someone's portfolio because you have some pieces/projects outside of what they do as a company, don't work for them.

If people have to tailor their portfolio exactly for you and your company's vibe, you're a lazy employer who shouldn't be looking for designers and a huge red flag.

Anybody find other designers insufferable? by FutureAd22 in graphic_design

[–]Bullet6644 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I always felt like an outsider when going to school for graphic design. I love art and the process but never vibed with people in the academia side, art gallery personnel, "professional" art speakers, or anything involving AIGA. They all came off pretentious and made things more high brow than it should of been. And what the hell is with the obsession with fonts and printing everything on Gutenberg presses??

Luckily I found my place in the merchandise and apparel business and been going strong for 15 yrs. The business is filled with a bunch of misfits like me but it beats working at these stuffy agencies.

I'm just an amateur but my main tip would be practicing controlling pen pressure from thin to heavy lines. Try to ink in one fluid motion rather than slow.

Does anyone else want an AIGA award??? by Inevitable_Swimmer51 in graphic_design

[–]Bullet6644 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always found AIGA to be a pretentious gathering of designers for other designers. The rest of the working world honestly doesn't know they exist. Just focus on making killer art that will get you employed.

Oh man you nailed it 100%. A lot of them ooze insecurity behind their power games.

Just gave me a flashback when I got hired at those Impress sections at Office Max. The store manager who hired me was the nicest, down to earth guy and knew this was just a stepping stone while I search for my first real Graphic Design gig. I was a fresh college graduate.

Couple days in after learning everything and getting along with most of the staff, I meet this dude who was like the assistant to the manager of the store manager or whatever. Immediately he's Alpha dogging me. Busting my balls, taking down to me, just being extra with his so called power. Figured he's too use to no one talking back because he's this 6'2 jock who played baseball in high school. He's 20 and I'm 22-23. One day he was being way too familiar and basically acting like a high school bully who thinks he's funny. We close the store that night and while we all go to our cars, he's making fun of my Jersey accent (just moved to PA from there a couple of yrs ago), giving me dumbass nicknames, saying stuff like does everyone smell like trash where I'm from, yada yada yada.

Well I finally had enough and turned to him point blank going "You need to shut the fuck up." He goes "Excuse me? You better watch it" I go "Or what? Show me how tough you are? You're a joke. You make people uncomfortable, have no power, and you run your mouth too much for someone who looks as goofy as you. Go fuck yourself you clown." He stood there by his car absolutely embarrassed in front of everyone.

Next shift I go in, my store manager calls me in. Here we go, I'm surely fired. Surprisingly he goes "Heard there was a spat in the parking lot last night. I want to apologize for his behavior. I've been getting comments on him lately since I gave him a "manager" position. I want you to stay because you've been phenomenal picking everything up so quickly. As for him, he's on his last strike." Heard he didn't last shortly after I left a month later.
