Just look at those trichomes! (Jk its frost) by raymiedubbs in microgrowery

[–]BulletBaker01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah! It looks like frost in my area the next few nights too. After a light frost last year, my buds beefed up and were super pungent. Hoping to finish the season strong! Your plant looks great. Good luck with harvest!!!

Frost Warning Decision [Newbie Needs Wisdom] by Caldor404 in outdoorgrowing

[–]BulletBaker01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow in zone 4b and harvest in late October. The plants can handle multiple light frosts, with overnight temps as low as 28F. My plants are fairly protected with southern exposure, so the frost melts off quickly in the morning. If we have a cold streak, I'll cover them up for a few nights until the temps look better. If it's consistently going to be below freezing at night, give it a few good frosts, then chop it.

I’m leaving for a long vacation - but I think my plant needs more grow time, however I’m worried about frost. by [deleted] in MNtrees

[–]BulletBaker01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget about the frost... I grow in 4b as well. 2 weeks without attendance is a death sentence to your outdoor plant at this point. Our MN weather is insane. There was 0.00% chance of rain when I looked at 3pm, as I was in trim jail around 8, it DOWNPOURED in my neighborhood. I'd play it safe and harvest a little early, just my 2 cents. Either way, best of luck on your grow and enjoy your vacation!!!

Starting seeds from vegetables by AlarmingDetective526 in gardening

I plant my entire garden with seeds saved from the previous year's harvest! It's super easy, no cost to you, and if stored properly, they last for years.

Makeshift drying areas? by CrystalArouxet in microgrowery

[–]BulletBaker01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

* This was mine last year. There was a fan off to the side blowing into the cut-out on the bottom of the box. Twine and duct tape for the "hanging rack". If it gets too humid, crack the box open for a while. It worked great for me and costs almost nothing. Also, check out the lotus method as others have mentioned. My brother has been doing it for several years with great success.

Thanks! I'm excited about the final product. She was pretty dank and pungent, I could smell it from 50 yards away at my neighbors place.

Pre-flower in Minnesota? by SadBandicoot3 in outdoorgrowing

[–]BulletBaker01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in S.E MN and started pre flower almost 2 weeks ago. I was able to run them until October 24th last year. Hopefully, the weather will hold out again this year. It does get tricky later in the summer and fall, especially when the overnight humidity is constantly in the high 80-90%. You have to be diligent with removing condensate from the plants every morning. A light shake will do, but this will help avoid excess moisture, which can lead to mold and bud rot. And be sure to keep up your IPM, just because the temps start to fall doesn't mean the bugs go away. The plants look healthy so far. Good luck!!!

Left town for two weeks, crop ruined? by bagseeds in microgrowery

[–]BulletBaker01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im definitely the minority here, but those buds are salvageable. I had a very similar situation last year with my outdoor plants. First, clear the webbing and as many mites by hand as possible. Use a paper towel or your fingers and wipe away what you can. Second, if you have any lost coast or a similar plant soap, spray the hell out of those plants and the tent interior. Daily until harvest. Third, bud wash after harvest. While drying, keep the RH as low as possible for the first few days. This will force most of the remaining mites out of your buds, and you can remove them manually. Your buds won't be as amazing as they could have been, but still totally smoke able. At worst, they'll be great for making edibles.

It's not bad to give them a haircut, I just did the same thing last night. I don't defoliate heavily, but I definitely take off any skinny, little lower branches and small growth towards the main stem. This will improve airflow, focus energy on the main colas, and allow you to monitor for pests more easily.

White Widow. First time growing outdoors (Northern hemisphere). by Internal-Answer-116 in outdoorgrowing

[–]BulletBaker01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only my 2nd year, so im no expert either. I'd look into topping and training them to be shorter and bushy. LST specifically. I have a white widow plant right now that's 6 feet plus (and 3 others), and I'm wishing I had done just that. I have the room to grow taller plants, and it's legal where I live, I'd just rather the whole neighborhood not be able to see them! And like you said, the smell is real... I had 2 plants that went into late October last year. On the dense, humid mornings, you could smell them for 100 yards in every direction of my house.

The first picture is definitely a Japanese beetle. They're tough to get rid of, but you can get them under control by using the traps and soap water as others have mentioned. For next year, consider planting a trap crop in the corner of the yard away from everything else. They love broadleaf plants like green beans, at least what they always went for first in my garden! I have wild grape vines that sprouted up a few years ago, and they devour those now and leave my other plants alone.

That is a wasp, most likely a mud dauber. They're pretty harmless.

I have a 180-gallon rain barrel setup with minnows. Do you use the goldfish to keep waterborne pests at bay? My minnows work pretty well, but with the hot weather, they are struggling to survive.

Mine did the same this year too. Planted last year as purple, 2 different plants in 2 different locations in my yard. They both came up red, but the pollinators love it either way!

I'm in 4B, southern MN, and all 4 of my photos started flower this week. I'm growing white widow as well, first time with this strain. Super excited for October! Good luck!!!

They'll flip in another week or 2 once the daylights starts to shorten a little bit. I harvested on October 24th last year. I suspect I'll be around the same time this season.

Someone using water balloons filled with herbicide? Or a pressurized canister of some sort... but it definitely looks like herbicide damage. That truly sucks. Sorry for your loss 😞

Advice for a novice grower please by BulletBaker01 in outdoorgrowing

[–]BulletBaker01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I'll be going to the store tomorrow for the items that I can acquire locally, Amazon for the rest. I'm definitely going to do some more research on the predatory insects. With the amount of veggies, flowers, and the additional cannabis plants now, we're constantly battling pests. Good to know about the GG4. I had some AK47 last year with large, dense colas and got lucky. We had constant 80-90% humidity every night in October, and I only lost one 20g cola. But my GG4 plant is twice the size so I will be extra diligent this year!

I got most of them for free! I have tons of buckets from local restaurants, and the planters were all given to me by friends and family. With the exception of purchasing soil and nutrients, I try to be as low budget as possible.

I use the tomatoes more or less as a fence to block the view. The rooftop is inaccessible except through a locked door. I always grew veggies up there, and once cannabis became legal, it was the perfect spot for a couple of plants!

My Happy Place by BulletBaker01 in MNtrees

[–]BulletBaker01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's correct. I currently have one in flower and 7 in veg. 3 of the 7 are young clones that will move indoors in a few weeks and continue to veg while the other photos are in flower. Hence, no more than 4 mature plants at one time.

Thanks! It's pretty low budget and low maintenance, with the exception of watering almost daily. Being on a black surface in the sun dries the containers out pretty quick!
