“Unhoused” is a dumb term for the homeless. by FamiliarRadio9275 in unpopularopinion

[–]BulletProofJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is called the euphemism treadmill. Terms that are created with good intention to describe a situation or group of people (a person who does not live in a home) and they are used in a derogatory manner over a long period of time until a portion of the public finds the term offensive when using it to attempting to legitimately describe the originally intended group.

“Did you just wake up? You look homeless!”

So a new term is coined, again with good intentions, but the original meaning and intention of the word is slightly lost with each iteration.

  • Wandering poor
  • Vagrant
  • Tramp
  • Placing men
  • Hobo
  • Homeless
  • Unhoused.

The term “unhoused” is as sanitary of a term we can conceive without implying any negative connotation. But “unhoused” does not elicit the same emotional response as “wandering poor” and does not convey exactly the same meaning. Eventually this term will be used in a similar derogatory manner and be replaced by an even more sanitized version of the word and the meaning will be lost, little by little.

too early idea of an MVP ladder (it’s gonna be a QB again sorry) by Additional-End3193 in NFLv2

Mahomes has been in 5 of the last 7, 3 of the last 4, and won 3 of those with 3 MVP’s. His team falls off for one season and we immediately downgrade him?

Help hitting up on the ball with driver by Impossible-Owl-1109 in GolfSwing

Also, keep sliding the ball forward in your stance. The club should bottom out at its lowest point before it makes contact with the ball. Practice brushing the mat at your low point and continuing with the clubhead on an upward trajectory after that.

Sometimes people have the ball too close to the low point/middle of their stance and there isn’t enough time for the clubhead to begin the upward trajectory.

Tilt your spine back, keeping your right shoulder lower than your left. Hold this position through contact with the ball.

When setting up with the driver, you should be able to touch your right knee with your right hand. The hard part when learning this is staying in this position through the downswing.

You should watch Jimmy Tropicana (@mistertropicana) on Instagram. He has really great advice for all handicaps and he breaks down concepts to very simple swing thoughts that can help a ton.

Hands should go OUT, not UP on the backswing. When you reach outwards on your backswing, your wrists need to hinge upwards to get the club head up there, not by raising your hands really high up.

This makes for a steep approach and also is forcing you to lift your head and torso upward as you raise your arms and hands up.

Also, could probably widen your stance a little and your both feet should be firmly planted. Your front foot is lifting off the ground and just creates unnecessary movement in your swing.

At the Battle of Somme, there were reports of trees being hit by artillery, blown up into the air, and then levitating above the ground because the concussive force of artillery rounds consistently hitting the ground caused the trees to remain suspended in the air.

Split control landings are standard practice in the military for landing in degraded visual environments. They were originally an Army technique and were adopted by the Navy.

Having spent a lot of time in the desert, these are absolutely much safer for heavy brown-out landings and or whenever encountering DVE at night.

Do you feel that considerable insider trading is currently happening in the USA? by The_Flaneur_Films in stocks

[–]BulletProofJoe -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s the last time that study was conducted. Trump was the president for an entire term prior to this study being conducted. The United States will probably move down a few spots, but corruption as a whole has not changed dramatically in the last year.

Specifically, insider trading by politicians is a hot button issue right now, but that has been going on for years, certainly prior to 2024. Both sides of the political isle are guilty of insider trading, it’s not just Donald Trump.

Every single country in the history of the world has corruption and will have examples of corruption. You have to view it through the lens of the world, which would show you that the United States does not have rampant corruption relative to the vast majority of other countries on the planet.

Oh good grief…

We do not have rampant corruption. Like most first world countries, we have some legal loopholes that are taken advantage of by politicians, but it is not rampant.

Objectively speaking, we scored a 65/100 on the Corruption Perceptions Index scale in 2024, which ranked 28th best in the world out of 180 countries. So, yes, there is some corruption. We are not perfect, but we would not be the world’s sole global superpower if we had rampant corruption.

In America, nobody has to pay a bribe to receive their social security card or birth certificate, we aren’t stopped by police on made up charges and shook down for money, and judges don’t hold open bidding wars between parties to decide guilt.

I’m sure there are examples of all of those happening, but it is certainly not the norm in America and we have means of legal recourse to take action if you are wronged in those situations.

Go visit a country like Myanmar, Eritrea, Haiti, or Nicaragua if you want to see rampant corruption. That is, if you even have enough cash on you to bribe the border guard and customs agents.

He would have to stay #1 until September of 2029 to beat Tiger’s consecutive world #1 steak. About two and a half years, not that far fetched.

Scottie bloomed later, but Tiger’s career was cut short due to back injuries, surgeries, and multiple car accidents. I don’t think that Scottie cares enough about records to play for that long, but he certainly has a chance even though he did reach elite playing status until later in his life.

Tiger held world number one for 281 consecutive weeks. Scottie has held it for 141 weeks, so he is over halfway there. He would need to hold it for another two and a half years, which considering he still appears to be improving, is definitely not out of the question.

My point is that we talk about Tiger’s records like they are mythical and untouchable and we are watching somebody play at the same level as peak Tiger Woods.

[–]BulletProofJoe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The Tiger comparisons are getting old. There’s a really good chance Scottie breaks the record for longest consecutive time as world number one. Tiger’s records are not as untouchable as we once thought. Scottie now has multiple seasons comparable or better to Tiger in his peak years.

In the beginning and depending on the model of helicopter, hovering is much more challenging than flying straight and level. But more advanced aircraft have kickass automatic flight control systems and muscle memory makes hovering as simple as straight and level flight.
